Can't believe I have to post this.....

Do not post about having someone beat you up or have them kill you. I get it...shit is crazy right now but just go get help. Don't come on here with something that will ACTUALLY get you in trouble with law enforcement...Now, have a nice day and happy redditing!

r/SouthrnOregon

Hello, everybody! I'm u/FallenStorm7694. Recently I was scrolling reddit looking at some local subs, and noticed Southern Oregon doesn't have a dedicated subbredit. There's the large regional subreddits r/Oregon or r/PNW, then theres a few city subreddits like r/Medford, r/KlamathFalls, r/Roseburg, r/grantspass, r/Ashland, r/CoosBay, and a few smaller ones here and there. I was inspired to do this because of the current wildfires, and I wanted to create a place where everyone in the region could share news and updates.

I'm a lifelong local to the region, and thought it would be great if we had our own thing, so I created r/SouthrnOregon this last Saturday. It's still definitely in its infancy, so any suggestions on how to improve it are more than welcome, so are any questions you have. All things Southern Oregon are allowed, including wildfire updates, regional news, nature, wildlife, arts, culture, food, entertainment, special events, local politics, history, and businesses. Basically if it's about Southern Oregon, it's allowed in r/SouthrnOregon.

If any of this interests you, please feel free to come join the subreddit, and we can build this new community together!

I don't see any fresh plumes of smoke, just the lingering haze. Great job firefighters...👍

Goatheads, bullthorns, puncturevine, devil’s eyelash…whatever you call it, this stuff is exploding right now. Sidewalks on E Main are particularly bad.

Anyone know the motivation behind New Horizons flying the Israeli flag?

Is it modern political symbolism? Are they sending money to Israel? Is the superintendent Jewish?

Instinct says political symbol, but I’m here to see if anyone has firsthand knowledge. Would rather know than assume.

Camping

Looking for a campgrounnd that isn't oversaturated with people. I do bush crafting and prefer either a lake, a river large creek nearby. We tried Fourmile and I just didn't like the...openness of it. Plus there were way too many people.

If you've got suggestions for a more "private woodsy" experience let me know. I can drive up dirt roads and hike if I have to. I just want to find some good spots that aren't inundated with people and vehicles.

Fruit trees

I was traveling during the end of spring while the fruit trees bloomed (Altamont area) but have noticed I not one single pear or plumb on any branch. I do see some cherry trees in the neighborhood with fruit but not much though. Was there a late freeze that may have contributed to this?

Month long parking!?

Hi! I'm coming to town this weekend to bike the Oregon Timbers Trail - the full thing. And I'm hoping to leave my truck camper somewhere for about a month (I like to lollygag and am burnt out from life and work and on a little recovery mission).

I'll call the airport and see what they say, but saw a similar post on here from a year ago and locals had some ideas so figured I'd try a refresh...

I'd also love any recommendations on restaurants and coffee shops.. as well as any camping spots for when I get into town before I load up and head to the start of the trail.

Thank you <3

Considering a move to Klamath Falls – would we be a good fit?

Hi everyone! My family is exploring a potential move to Klamath Falls, and I’d really appreciate some honest local insight.

We’re an interracial same-sex couple currently living in a pretty deep red area of South Carolina, and we’re hoping to relocate somewhere that feels a bit safer and more welcoming overall. We have a young biracial son (early elementary age), so community, schools, and general day-to-day comfort really matter to us.

One of us would likely be working at Oregon Institute of Technology, so Klamath Falls is on our radar for that reason. We both work in/around higher education.
We’re also avid nature lovers, so access to outdoor spaces, trails, and nearby scenery is a big plus for us.

We’re trying to get a realistic sense of:

How welcoming Klamath Falls is to LGBTQ+ or diverse families

What the general social/political climate feels like day-to-day (not just on paper - everyday comfortability in interactions is important to us)

Experiences raising kids there, especially for families that might stand out a bit

Whether OIT tends to be a more inclusive bubble within the town

Any neighborhoods, schools, or nearby areas that might be a better fit

What the outdoor scene is like for families (parks, hiking, easy weekend adventures, etc.)

We know no place is perfect, but we’re trying to move somewhere that feels like a step toward more safety and community than where we are now.

Would love to hear your experiences, thoughts, or anything you wish you knew before moving there. Thank you so much!

Networking recommendations?

Hi all! I moved back to Klamath fairly recently, I grew up here but left for a handful of years! I am now starting a professional career and would like some insight on events/clubs/organizations and other networking opportunities that are available. I would like to be able to get out and get to know people in the community! Any advice is appreciated :)

I know everyone likes the jets, but being away from the noise is cool too.

Knife sharpener?

Hey guys, in all my four years living here part time, I have never come across someone who can sharpen knives, or a store that sharpens knives. I talked to the employee at The Ledge on Saturday (not Mike) and they said the closest was maybe Keno. Anyone know a spot? Need to get some kitchen knives sharpened.

How bad is healthcare

Hi I've been in klamath for about 8 months now and I have a lot of chronic illnesses, I've been dipping into the Healthcare scene here because everything is flaring up pretty bad. Is the Healthcare always so... bad here? I mean I need more testing to figure out whats wrong exactly, not to go too in depth but my doctor back home was in the process of testing for Ehlos Danlos - havent gotten to that point with my current doctor, but hopefully come my next appointment in September they'll actually test for it instead of brushing me off! I also had an ER doctor just assume I was trying to get pain meds??? I was very much not, I didnt even ask for pain meds.

Regardless, please tell me it gets better I really want to feel better soon.
