Do points do anything?

Hi folks.

This is probably a simple question, but do the points actually do anything except reward you for exploring or indicate the way forward (you get points by doing what the plot intended). Do they unlock a "good ending" or the like?

Thanks!

Favourite KQ Game Overs/Deaths?

What are some of your favourite game overs/deaths from the King's Quest games? For me, there are several to choose from, but the ones from KQ7 still make me laugh all these years later (like the one in the video).

It's the way she just immediately falls to the ground, 'SPLAT!' - it takes me out every time, lol.

Original King's Quest

So I am playing a remake of the original game and I am stuck at the condor. I know it's a common place to struggle. Any tips on catching that sucker?

The Rose

Behind the hidden door was a flight of crumbling stairs leading outdoors, ending in a tiny clearing surrounded by high rock walls. Edgar never told Lolotte about this discovery, and would sometimes go there when he wished to be alone with his thoughts. The tiny seedling he discovered growing there one day was just as mysterious, but Edgar was determined to help it grow. The sight of the bright green plant slowly unfurling brought peace to his soul, and helped distract his mind from Lolotte -- the evil woman who claimed to be his mother.

All of that seemed so long ago with the appearance of the peasant girl with the bright blue eyes and golden hair, whose name Edgar had only recently learned was Rosella. He may have persuaded Lolotte to free Rosella from her imprisonment, but when Lolotte declared that he and the girl were to be married the following day, he was so shocked that he found himself completely incapable of speech. Even when Lolotte stated that Rosella was to sleep in Edgar's room and Rosella was led there, Edgar was unable to even ask his mother where he was meant to sleep. In fact, she barely seemed to acknowledge him at all as she left the throne room and continued up the stairs to her room, gleefully musing out loud about how much power she had now that she possessed Pandora's Box, which she had forced Rosella to retrieve for her.

Edgar retreated to his usual spot, angry at his so-called mother but even more angry at himself for not speaking up to her. His anger quickly turned to despair as he thought about Rosella. Despite his feelings for her, he couldn't cast aside the cruel reality of what he was. Someone like her could never be happy with someone who looked like him, especially if she were to spend her days inside this gloomy castle with Lolotte as her mother-in-law.

As he lay on the ground, he found himself staring at the seedling he had nurtured, which by this time had grown into a small rosebush with a single red rose blossoming upon it. The sight of the beautiful flower trapped within the barren clearing made Edgar realize that he had to do something. For Rosella's sake, he couldn't let Lolotte's plan succeed...and as he continued to study the rose, a plan began to form in his mind.

-------

I've sometimes wondered where Edgar disappears to in King's Quest IV after Rosella gets locked in his room, as well as where exactly he got that rose he gives her which helps her escape. Here's a scenario that answers both questions.

iOS App Kings Quest

Curious if there is any demand for an iOS port for the kings quest. If so I could probably get something out tomorrow, but what would be your vote on which kings quest.

I'm creating a tiny landscape heavily inspired by Etheria from KQ7, made mostly out of recycled/repurposed materials. I realized too late that the colorful paving stones make it look like the board game Candyland. :P

I can't climb down the tower stairs after getting the sheet music, I feel like such an idiot. What am I doing wrong and is there any special way to do it?

I tried asking in the Discord Sierra channel but not many people there at this hour.

I just finished the 2015 kings quest game and decided to go on reddit to further discuss it with people and was very shocked to see how small but dedicated the community was, i expected atleast a few thousand in here but turns out the game was alot more niche then i thought, what an underrated experience im excited to play some of the older ones any suggestion on which one to start with?

Puzzle in iv - vii - had to play the same music notes as someone at the top of a bridge/castle

I know that doesn't give a lot to go on, but any help solving a family dispute/mystery?

I'm pretty sure we only played 5-7, and it doesn't look like it matches the colours of 7, but I left it broad just in case.

I have distinct memories of this one puzzle that kept us stumped for about a week -- in it, the character walked to the top of a bridge/walkway (I remember it being grey, but I mean it's been a while...) and at the top encountered some other characters. They talked, and my character had to play a series of notes for them on a piano/harp? I remember not being able to figure it out, and the source music I think was at the bottom of the long walkway... so I kept having to walk back and forth, back and forth every time I tried it.

Anyone remember which puzzle this is? I don't think we played any other family games, so I'm sure it has to be from King's Quest and yet... I can't find a part that looks like it in the walkthroughs I'm watching on youtube.

1990 Remake Availability

I was about to kick off a replay of the series and I could have sworn that my GOG King's Quest collection included the official 1990 remake of the KQ1. I don't see it on there. Looking at Steam, it also seems like their collection is missing the 1990 remake.

I know that AGDI made an incredible fan remake, it's gorgeous, but I was hoping to play the 1990 version again (this is probably sacrilege but I'm not much of a fan of the 1984 version).

What Made King’s Quest So Special to You?

I’ve been replaying the King’s Quest series since last May while recording a playthrough, and it really got me thinking about how differently everyone experienced these games back in the day. Some people remember the brutal puzzles. Some remember the storytelling. Others remember saving every five seconds because you never knew if you were going to die or end up on a position that made the game unsolvable and had to start over.

For me, I loved the adventure and discovery, but it was also a huge bonding moment for my sisters and me, who largely played together.

So I’m curious:

• Which King’s Quest game was your first?
• Did you use hint books or try to solve everything yourself?
• Favorite character: Graham, Rosella, Alexander, or someone else?
• Was there a puzzle that completely stumped you for years?

Tell me your experiences and stories!
