KoW Kings of War Command & Unit Survey (until end of Sunday 28th June)

Thumbnail docs.google.com
7 Upvotes

We’re also asking for new unit ideas. This is your chance to tell us what you think your favourite army is missing. Maybe there’s a battlefield role that feels under-represented. Maybe there’s a unit that would perfectly capture the fantasy theme of that faction.

For these suggestions, think about ideas that could realistically become resin or digital miniatures rather than new hard plastic sprues. Rather than core infantry or cavalry, we’re especially interested in heroes, monsters, war engines, large infantry, large cavalry and the like.

If you’d like to submit concept sketches or artwork to support your unit idea, you can email them to: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])

Please make sure your email clearly states who you are and which unit idea your artwork relates to. It will also help if you mention in your survey response that you’re submitting artwork separately, so we know to look out for it.

Hobby Kings of War Slow Grow Challenge 2026 - Stage 1

https://www.manticgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/slow-grow-map-blog-768x592.jpg

We are a little late to the party but I had to confirm details with Mantic first.

Welcome to the official Slow Grow Challenge on Reddit.

The goal is 2000 points army for Kings of War in 24 weeks in 4 steps. First step is a little shorter on in here as the Milestone Date is global, but as a tradeoff I got it confirmed that Mantic will watch this space as well, so no need to upload the pictures on Facebook or sending them per e-mail (unless you want to).

Stage One (Weeks 1–6):

  • Milestone Date: Friday 20th March
  • Start with either a Champions Company, or roughly 500 points of Kings of War models (most likely three or four units).

Additional Rules for Reddit:

You need to add a comment in this Megathread with a link to your Milestone, be it topic/post on reddit or any other source so it won't be missed

Of course you can create as many topics/posts as you like sharing your plannings, progress, pictures etc. but a link to at least the final one should be in this thread (you can create one comment and edit each time you have new things to share of course)

I will try to add any missing topics with "kow slow grow 2026" the title to this Megathread by the 20th but cannot guarantee to catch everyone (depending on how many people gonna join)

There will be a new Megathread with each Stage to make it as easy as possible for everyone

the following stages:

Stage Two (Weeks 7–12):

  • Milestone Date: Friday 1st May
  • Expand your fledgling force to 1000 points.

Stage Three (Weeks 13–18):

  • Milestone Date: Friday 12th June
  • Grow your army to 1500pts.

Stage Four (Weeks 19–24):

  • Milestone Date: Friday 24th July
  • The final stretch to 2000 points.

4th ed house rules?

My group really doesn't do tournament, and after messing with 4th for a bit we feel 'sticky combat' just isn't fun. We're basically going back to 3rd's Waiver/Route stats.

The fix is pretty clean, but not perfect: just subtract 2 from the 4th ed nerve for waiver number. Fearless gets the old '-".

The nice part it is really feels like it frees up list building and all those (2) limits don't feel as rough, and support shooting feels 'right' again.

Anyone else added house rules for 4th?

KoW Who plays 10mm scale?

I'm thinking of collecting a 10mm scale army for KoW, instead of the official 28mm scale.

1) They'd take up way less storage space. (My 28mm sci-fi minis are taking up enough space as is)

2) They should be faster to paint?

3) Buying minis would be cheaper - I do have an FDM printer but I don't enjoy having to wrestle with miniature STLs or the assembly/cleanup process post printing. I prefer to use it for terrain.

4) It would be playable on smaller tables.

On the other hand, one big question I have is, would I be able to find other players who play at this scale? At the very worst I'd just be solo wargaming, which I can live with, but I'd thought I'd try and see how large the community is.

If you collect 10mm armies for KoW, do you have opponents to play with?

Lady Liberty is finally done. I started her 5 years ago but I dropped her and she shattered. After sitting in pieces in a box I decided last week to put her back together and paint her.
I had to use the only proper model for scale as she is quite big.

Painted up 5 regiments of Red Goblins using Shieldwolf Forest Goblins. This is for my Ogre Tea Party army so the forest goblins are the Sons of Liberty who dressed up as “Indians” during the irl Tea Party.

The Steppe-themed undead army I am working is coming together now with the release of the💀Undead Skeleton Warriors! Trying out a different look from the traditional style of undead.

If you want to check it out, you can grab your free STL on the Kickstarter page. They come with options for different helmets, weapons, and poses.

Thank you for looking!

Champions Help me as a newby

I'm looking very hard to convert over from Warhammer to KoW. I'm not a fan of rules bloat and AoS spearhead is actually quite hard to teach my 11yo plus feels like a board game more than a fantasy battle. Also I love the idea of using my grey piles of plastic to make mini dioramas on bases like in KoW.

Is champions the right starting point? Looks like it to me but seems to be not supported anymore (don't care about that as I hate rules constantly being changed). Should I pick up the champions rules and go from there? How does it compare to KoW and ambush? I'm looking for a game to teach my kids on the dining table to use my large collection of cool minis and GW is killing me with rules, OPR just doesn't seem to be the answer.

I've just started with space weirdos for sci Fi skirmish cause of the dice mechanics (love it not all being d6s) instead of deadzone mainly due to owning terrain that would work with it and not requiring buying new terrain like deadzone would. But love the idea of having a rank and flank game to play with my way too many fantasy minis in the cupboard.

Basically - what's better for a hour long game with a kid that is something we can get into in the coming years- champions or ambush (really don't have more than an hour so full scale KoW seems like it would be an issue)

Thanks all.

Hobby Multibasing vs Individual Basing?

I like KoW for allowing you to not have to have the exact number of miniatures to represent a unit of a given size.

However, given it's a fantasy game and the miniatures are potentially compatible with other wargames, would you want to keep the minis individual, or go all in to make them dedicated for KoW?
