What is a good quality mechanic that stands behind their work? Where do you go, what makes you keep going back?

My partner and I and our infant are coming to visit family and are staying in a hotel. Is the smoke too dangerous or is it manageable? We are okay with having to stay inside if needed. We’re from the lower mainland and it’s smoky here too

Saw a rodent was eating my plants and turned out to be this guy. The pot it 12". Aside from traps any suggestions on stuff to keep rats away from my plants? No poison, there are cats in my neighborhood.

I'm taking my road test on Friday to get my full license (Class 5), however I am coming from Kelowna and have never driven in Kamloops before.
Does any who has taken the test recently know what the usual routes are? Is there anything I should be prepared for is there anything they do to try and trip you up?
Thanks so much!

I copied this from different areas to help fix our problematic alert system. It is doing us a huge disservice sending extreme level alerts (Forest fire evacuations, tsunami warnings, etc) for something that could be done differently, and more effectively.
Here’s how to actually get this filed with the CRTC:
Submit through the online form Go to the CRTC’s “Ask a question or make a complaint” page (crtc.gc.ca → Contact us → complaint form). There’s a triage form that routes you to the right complaint type — CRTC Client Services is the first point of contact for complaints about a telecommunications or broadcasting service, and you start by completing a triage form online, which then directs you to the appropriate complaint form. Choose the emergency alerting / wireless public alert category if it’s offered, since that’s a CRTC-mandated system (not something your carrier controls).
A few things worth knowing before you file:
Emergency alerts are area-specific (geo-targeted), so an alert reaching you from “hundreds of miles away” is itself worth flagging — that’s a legitimate technical complaint, not just an annoyance issue. It suggests either a provider distribution problem or how the issuing agency defined the alert zone.
CRTC Client Services already tracks correspondence after alerts go out, groups complaints by theme, and looks at what’s driving public reaction — including things like alerts triggering at full volume regardless of phone settings. So volume/timing complaints are a known, tracked category.
Note that the CRTC has previously rejected proposals to make Amber Alert optional or a separate opt-out category, citing lack of consensus among stakeholders and a desire for consistency across broadcast and wireless alerts — so a complaint asking to “turn off” alerts at night probably won’t get traction, but one about incorrect geo-targeting or the volume ignoring phone settings has more precedent for action.
What to include in your complaint for maximum effect:
Date/time of the specific alert(s) you received
Your general location vs. the location the alert was actually about
Whether the alert bypassed your phone’s silent/DND settings
That this is a recurring pattern, not a one-off
Also file with your provincial Emergency Management Organization, since they’re the ones who actually draw the geo-targeting boundary for the alert — the CRTC regulates whether carriers must distribute alerts, but the EMO or police service issuing the alert decides how wide an area it’s sent to. If targeting is the real problem, that’s often the more effective complaint to lodge alongside the CRTC one.

EDIT:
Instead of downvoting, how about using your words. What exactly is problematic about this post? What don't you like about it?

Trying to get my wife into golfing, I’m a 33 HCP myself, this would be wife’s first time on a course. We are just 2 so will likely be paired up.
Does Mt. Paul course have beginner friendly vibes? Fairways look fairly open. What’s the most beginner friendly course in Kamloops?
Thanks

Interesting, there's a new political party in BC that some are calling a revival of the BC Liberals. Will Peter Milobar cross the floor again and join it?
Probably not, you see the new party's leader actually brought in SOGI when he was part of the last BC Liberal government (Milobar's old party) and says the anti-SOGI rhetoric is the “perfect example of the divisive and fear-tactic politics” that have proliferated in B.C., especially in the last election.
During his failed leadership bid Milobar took aim at SOGI, held an interview with Rebel news, and talked about there only being two genders (there's no room for the existence of non-binary and intersex people in their ideology).
Despite trying to cultivate a moderate reputation, I think it is pretty clear that Peter Milobar is most at home now staying in the BC Conservatives, with their wacky, far right leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay, even if she did target his family in that famous debate moment.

Hey Kamloops,
Does anyone know somewhere that could sell ice in bulk? Going camping next week and I have a large cooler that uses a ton of it. Last year McDonald's filled it up for a donation, but this year they are not doing that. Buying bags of ice adds up extremely fast with a cooler that big.
Thanks

We are a young family and I have a job offer in the area. Long story short we have been wanting to leave the north for awhile due to the miserable winters and very short summers.
I was wondering if anyone has any insights on the cost comparisons and if the weather is a large upgrade?
Real estate is definitely more expensive but curious about daily expenses like
Home insurance
Electricity (BC Hydro)
Natural gas (FortisBC)
Water / sewer / garbage
Groceries
Vehicle insurance (ICBC)
Gym / recreation
Yes I am aware of the issues Kamloops has but I don’t think those issues are avoidable anywhere in BC now
Thanks!

Hey guys as the title says, I’m giving my road test tomorrow and sorta nervous.
Any who did their class 5 recently, how was it? What route did you take and how were the instructors?
Any help and advice would be appreciated

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but technically I'm in a bit of a bind? So,
Residing currently in the Greater Vancouver area
23, span my wheels pursuing a supply chain diploma (BCIT) right out of HS, likely would not complete it
unemployed since HS (since I was doing schooling), but I do have a forklift, foodsafe1 certificate, I've applied to quite a few places but never really got anywhere
Parent's patience is wearing thin, and they're insisting I move out and onto Thompson River Uni, get a certificate, and likely live there for a while(?), mother suggests "Horticulture" (but honestly I don't really know what I want, and what on earth am I going to do with the "science of plants"? It's not even my decision (nor any of the trades) anyway!). Really insisting on it too, and the earliest for the program is August. (I think parents would cover the first term and that's it)
Even if I were to move, my personal/financial health isn't great.
I don't own a car, I'm not sure if any apartments/dorm rooms would be available, cooking skills are "OK", I have ~$13000 locked in a GIC (until 2027). Barely ~$100 in savings. Worst case I go homeless.
So not sure where to go from here?

Hey everyone I'm driving down to Kamloops with my grandma to attend the Heartland festival in Sunpeaks. It's my first time going to the festival and visiting Kamloops. Was looking for recommendations on things to check out while I'm here and also any advice on what to expect at the festival?
Thanks so much !

If you don't have a jet then it's pretty much done. I just had to push my way out trimmed way out. It's time to swap to pioneer or Valleyview or just drag it out to the lake.

Is the FoodHero app very popular in Kamloops? I was visiting family down east and it is pretty commonly used down there for heavily discounted food, especially frozen meat and chicken. I had never heard of it before but am always looking for a grocery deal.

The conversation at work brought to mind a very distant memory from when I was wee.
When I was young, my mom told me to always buy meats and produce from Save On Foods as opposed to Some of the other grocery stores in town. I’ve gone through most of life with that automatically engrained in my head and have always bought my groceries at Save On.
It came out at work this week. Apparently I’m the only one that’s ever thought that everyone else thinks the meat and produce at superstore and Walmart and FreshCo are just fine. They all agreed that Costco does seem to be top-tier, however. Of course, if you don’t eat them, they go bad because they come in such large amounts.
What are the thoughts from this group?

My wife is a Travel Nurse currently working in the RIH ER. This is her 3rd visit there and she absolutely loves the hospital and Kamloops. So much so that we are thinking of relocating there from Ontario. Anyway, I was there last summer for 2 weeks and had a blast. Im just wondering if there is anything new since then to do. New restaurants/pubs/etc? Any new outdoor spots? Major events in August? Sun River worth a day?

Can anyone recommend dental implant clinic here in Kamloops, please? That specializes mostly on implants…
I see many clinics include implant/denture services among general dentistry and others, and I don’t know if that’s fine … if the clinic focus on implants only, does it mean better quality?
I know it’s an expensive procedure, but hope to find a balance of good quality+good price.
Thank you
