Discussion I know I’m late to the party, but who else tried The Dark Carnival weed?

It made me feel similar to how I felt when I tried a (mildly suspicious) dab pen once… not the usual indica “couch lock.” But a heavier, less enjoyable couch lock.

Am I tripping? Lol I was hoping to love it! It’s not the worst I’ve ever smoked, but it’s still a slightly different feeling.

Lately y'all I slowly been distancing myself from drinking a lot dar from what I used to. I'm honestly proud of myself. Occasionally I'll have a drink with family or out pregaming or gaming with my buds. Overall I found myself drinking Faygo over my cravings for alcohol maybe I should also get into sparkling water but I love the taste of Faygo. It tastes like what a soda should be. So Thanks Faygo for keeping me mostly sober!

Story A Tale from the $hoe-BoXXX. A story of Devotion, Betrayal, Isolation, Redemption, and finding something that was never truly lost.

Upvotes

(Any birth names have been changed. Any Juggalo nicknames have been retained cos I don't give a FOOK.)

What up fam? Its a boy $hoeBoxxx aka Fat Matt! We're all out of Gathering announcements so if you're like me, you're sitting in your fist and leaning back on your thumb watching the clock tick as we wait for the 2nd half of August.

I figured in the meantime, I'd regale you all with a little story. If you've ever seen on of my comments talking about why the Gathering(especially my first in 2023) is so very special to me, I usually will refer to a "long-ass story no one wants to read".

Well, if you were ever curious, or you're currently bored, it's time. That's right, finally, The "Long Ass Story".

*ahem*

We're gonna take a trip back to late 2004/early 2005. This is when I consider myself fully embracing the Juggalo inside of me. I had heard of ICP long before when they were wrestling, but due to the poor promotion chronicled in "Behind the Paint", I never learned they were musicians and thought they were just wrestlers. I learned later the truth but some of you younger folks, who have had the world at your finger tips your entire life, don't know how hard it was to get new music. Especially if you were 10/11/12(1999-2001) years old, had no money, and pretty much had your parents screen or flat out veto any musical purchase you wanted that they didn't approve of.

Anyway, it was around '04/'05 that I finally had heard the music and felt the message. I got it, I understood. I had a term for who I felt I was and I had a group of like-minded folks I could call family. I was a Juggalo.

We had a crew at our school, typical teenage bullshit splintered most of us and we went our separate ways. Fast forward to 2007. Me and my homie Muppet started hanging around in the next town over. He was dating a chick, and I was chasing one. Now in hindsight, the best things to come out of this little town are empty Ubers or full paddywagons but that's neither here nor there.

Through a complex series of promises, favors, Dark Carnival magic, and good old-fashioned luck, we scored tickets to a show in Louisville. It was finally happening, I was finally gonna get to see ICP live. Tempest Tour. We had arranged it so we'd be in a car with our friends, the driver who I'll call Beiber cos she looked like Justin Bieber, and Fluffy(a ridiculous character in his own right), Muppet's girl S., and me. Beiber was the only one of us that had a car.

The night before the show arrives. Muppet and I are mallratting around, one of the southside Jugg's favorite pasttimes, when Beiber calls us with bad news. Her mom is coming with us and doesn't like me. I can't go.

I stupidly accepted the shitty hand I had been dealt. I didn't put any money in on the tickets, or gas, or anything so I accepted that yet another parent didn't like me and took it on the chin.

The next day, my friends are headed to the show and I'm moping at the house. I get a call from Muppet. He tells me to go outside because he has something very important to talk to me about.

Once I get outside, I get the bomb dropped on me. On the way to Loserville, Beiber's mom casually turns to Muppet and asks, "How come Matt couldn't come? He was so excited." Not only that but when they got to Louisville, my ticket was sold for a crappy watch. I had been had, fleeced, fucked-right-the-hell-over.

I immediately call Beiber and lay into her. I called her every single possible insult I could dig up and threatened her with such violence that I almost regret the things I said. Almost.

It was at that point that I began feeling myself move away from the Juggalo scene. I was spurned by someone I considered a friend and I started to take it out on all Juggalos, while starting to fall in line with what the rest of the world thought about them. Turns out Beiber had the hots for Muppet's girl and I guess needed me out of the way? Whatever. I've given up trying to rationalize it.

Anyway. That was where I found myself for a long period of time. Normies would love hearing stories from this "former Juggalo" but I still couldn't bring myself to talk shit. Regardless of what had been done to me, I would still point out that Juggalos were among the most loyal friends I had ever had. I would still put on Southwest Song or Dead Body Man to prove to others that ICP wasn't all magnets and miracles, and I would still listen to Esham somewhat regularly, at least by comparison.

The Carnival tried to reach out to me on a couple occasions. I was with my horrendous ex at her church and someone was handing out Bang Pow Boom samplers. He spotted my hatchetman, about a week before I took it off and put it up, and handed me some. I never opened them. I stuck them in a box and moved on. My soul wasn't ready yet.

About 6 years later, my now wife had made friends with some Juggalos she worked with. This was around the time of the initial PSY/MNE split, right before the FBI-BS. They were bigger Twiztid fans and, while nice, I still wasn't ready. They kinda scared me away for a while because, as friendly as the two girls my wife worked with were, their boyfriends/baby-daddies and I had little to nothing in common and we only hung out once or twice. I had been out of the Juggalo world for so long that I didn't recognize it when it was shown to me again.

Fast forward again to 2022. My wife has gotten into horrorcore through the wonderful weirdos at LLE, she starts going to shows, Camp Xul, etc, when she gets invited to the Gathering. She went and I stayed home. I didn't care. I had completely forgotten one of the most fundamental aspects of myself.

She has a life changing experience there and meanwhile, we work through some major issues that almost ended us but instead we came out of the shitstorm smelling like roses.

I give Alla Xul Ellu, Super Famous Funtime Guys, and S.O.N. a chance. I start to feel and remember the way I used to feel and be but it's still a process. I end up at a Super Show or two, an Axemass show. Became a big fan of Donnie Menace and I consider him a friend though I doubt he'd recognize me as fast as I like to think he would. Logan from S.O.N. however I definitely consider a friend and he does recognize and come to me and my wife in a crowd anytime we see him.

That's when my wonderful wife convinces me to go to the Gathering. It's 2023.

I agree but I'll admit to being very apprehensive all the way from the house to Legend Valley gates. I had forgotten everything good about Juggalos and replaced it with what a few bad ones did. I let one bad Bar S spoil the whole barbecue.

But something clicked while I was in the parking lot, being given free weed by strangers, feeling the magic that I had forgotten how to feel. It started welling back up in me like I was intoxicated, but beyond the weed and beer, it was different. It was the feeling of finding your long lost favorite shirt in the back of your closet and it still fits perfectly. Like the feeling of walking around with a big chunk of you missing but it's been gone so long you don't notice that it's not there anymore, but when you finally pop it back into place, everything feels right again.

NATAS played night one, I was 15 again. The same artist that kept me tethered to the underground all those years was the one who was finally able to pull me back onboard. I got to meet Esham the next day, absolutely starstruck.

Then we get to night two. The stars have finally aligned, the correct incantations have been spoken, and the gods are pleased with my sacrifices. I am about to see ICP live. Not at the Expo 5 with some a couple people it turns out I can't trust, but at the motherfucking Gathering with my wife. Somewhere I never thought I'd get the chance to be even back in the day.

ICP comes on and it's everything I dreamed it was and more. Songs I haven't heard in years are coming back to em like I listened to them yesterday.

The outro of "Down With the Clown" comes along. I feel myself getting misty eyed. I start to remember what I said I'd be when the world is like "fuck 'em, kill 'em". Goddammit I can't believe I forgot that I said I was gonna be down, til I'm dead in the ground.

Then they close out with one of my favorites, Pass Me By, which is now my #1 favorite because of this show. Shaggy's line hits me like a runaway dump truck. "I look around, I can't believe that it's possible. I'm dead & I made it to carnival". Fuck yeah I did.

I haven't missed a Gathering since, and my only regret is missing as much as I did. I'm now back to my old self, but with the benefit of almost 20 years of experience to look back on.

In one last little weird bit of carnival magic, I did some calculations and realized that I stepped away from the Juggalo world when I was 17 years old. I rejoined my long lost family 17 years later. The carnival works in many strange and wonderful ways.

And that's all, if you made it all the way through thank you and I hope you enjoyed this little ride down memory lane.

As of now I've seen ICP 8 times. 2 sets at 3 gatherings, a Hallowicked, and most recently a local show in Newport. In less than a month, I can add two more to that number.

And of course it wouldn't be a $hoeboxxx post on r/Juggalo this far into the summer if I didn't point out that we only have 3 WEEKS, 3 DAYS, 20 HOURS & 23 MINUTES UNTIL THE 2026 GATHERING OF THE MUTHAFACKIN JUGGALOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSS!!!!!!

Question Thinking about Hallowicked 2026… anyone else going solo?

Upvotes

What up, family?

I’ve been kicking around the idea of finally making it to Hallowicked this year, but I’ve got one hang-up: I’d probably be going alone.

A little background, I grew up listening to ICP. A friend’s older brother introduced me through Inner City Posse’s Dog Beats and gave me my first album: a scratched to shit copy of Forgotten Freshness Vol. 1&2.

I was hooked, and I listened pretty religiously up through Hell’s Pit. Then, life happened, friends drifted apart, and I kind of drifted away from the music too. Every once in a while I’d throw on Wizard of the Hood, but that was about it.

Lately I’ve been diving back in—relistening to my favorite albums again like The Great Milenko, checking out stuff released post-2004 (damn theres a lot), and rediscovering why I loved this shit in the first place. I’ve been checking out other artists, too, learning more about horrorcore as a genre, and it’s been a lot of fun revisiting everything with fresh ears as well as discovering some banging new (to me) shit.

Now I’m seriously considering making Hallowicked my first ICP show.

The only thing that makes me nervous is going by myself. I’d also love to actually embrace the experience—face paint and all—but I have absolutely no idea where to start.

So I guess I’m asking:

-Is Hallowicked a good first show if you’re flying solo?

-Do people ever meet up beforehand to hang out or help newcomers with face paint?

-Any advice for a first-timer?

I know meeting people from the internet always comes with some common-sense precautions, so I’m not looking to do anything sketchy. Mostly just hoping to connect with some Juggalos and experience the culture in a fun, safe way.

Whoop whoop!
