FINALLY, Jethro Tull and Rhino / Parlophone have announced a release date for the Aqualung and WarChild Dolby Atmos editions. In the following video, I'll explain what's included in these new editions and why I think they are worth double dipping if you already own the boxed set editions.

The 5.1 mixes were originally made over 10 years ago. That's nearly an eternity in music technology years - plugins have evolved a lot since then, but also Steven Wilson has had over a decade of experience since he last worked on them. His more recent mixes have tended to be warmer, more adventurous and also somehow *more* faithful to the originals. Plus, the old DVD versions are lossy - the new versions would be presented in true lossless for the first time. I'm so happy that these mixes are being released on affordable, single disc blu-ray editions instead of repressing the large boxed sets. However, I do have some reservations about the lack of bonus material on WarChild.

Personally, I've been waiting for these for some time and I hope we get more Jethro Tull Atmos mixes in these affordable, standalone Blu-ray editions. Are you as excited for these as I am? What would you like to see next from the Tull Dolby Atmos series? Let me know in the comments below.

This 1992 Grammy acceptance speech has been heavily debated for decades. Lars Ulrich finally won, but his attitude towards Jethro Tull's 1989 victory felt quite aggressive to many. Do you think his behavior that night was a bit too much, or was it just fair game?

So stoked to own these awesome pieces of prog rock history. Was down at my local shop sifting through the new arrivals bin and stumbled upon these two gems. Guy wanted $30 for the two and I said why not?

The purple one is a live cut from Baltimore, MD and Norfolk, VA. Early pressing on the Contra Band Music label. The Baltimore show sounds super washed out and soft but the Norfolk show actually has some bite to it (for as well as a 1973 boot can sound).

Now the crown jewel of the find was this Jethro Tull in “A Passion Play” Forum ‘73 pressing from the legendary Trademark of Quality label on red vinyl. I did have to censor the cover art done by William G Stout as it’s quite… revealing. This pressing sounds remarkable for an audience recording and captures Tull at their most elaborate. It features a full rendition of A Passion Play, a good chunk of Thick as a Brick along with other cuts from Aqualung.

Curiously both discs feature shows that have the unreleased track known as “A Bomb in the Dressing Room” which was a working title for the song “No Rehearsal” featured on their legendary 1972 sessions at Château d'Hérouville in Paris.

These two will sit nicely along side my other Tull boots “Flute Cake” and “My God”.

Not sure why Jethro Tull got into my head this morning, but I remember an episode of The Norm Show where he played a little Aqualung towards the end - some song for him and a girl?

Hopefully I'm thinking of the right show - anyone know what episode it might have been?

Yesterday I came across the 1984 performance of Locomotive Breath at Capitol Theatre, on YouTube. I think this was on the Under Wraps tour, since the song had been "embellished" with a lot of synth.

When the song gets going into the main refrain, Vitesse plays a keyboard "riff" that sound a lot, a mean a lot, like Relax, from Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Do you think it likely that this was done knowingly? Or pure coincidence?
