OTHER I just watched Interstellar for the first time.
I haven't teared up in a long time. This was one of the best, most emotional movies I've ever watched. It was phenomenal. I kept pushing off watching it and in a way, I'm glad. As a 20-year-old, I think I understood all the complicated emotions, storytelling, characters more than I would've 2-3 years ago. I'm sure it has flaws and I could definitely find them on a rewatch, but currently, I'm flying on a pink cloud of happiness. People don't exagerate, this truly is an overwhelming experience. Watch it if you haven't. Just do it.

OTHER Great addition to the IMAX Film Cell collection!
galleryI considered myself pretty lucky to find the Gargantua film cell at Half Price Books this last weekend. Maybe it's more common than I realize, but I was definitely excited about this find!
Eventually, I will have to get a small display setup for showing the entire collection along with the patches from the collector's edition. Does anyone care to share their displays or collections?

QUESTION Miller's Planet question
How did Cooper know that the water wasn't too deep for the ship? For all they know, it could've been as deep as Earth's oceans. How did they know it was safe to land?

QUESTION Interstellar - 10th anniversary edition.
Hi, does anyone know if the 10th anniversary edition of Interstellar has any deleted scenes, different scenes from the theatrical version and/or any behind the scenes footage?
I'm searching for the 10th anniversary edition but it is unavailable in my country. I'm not able to find a trusted source online either.
I know it has some movie posters and the patches of TARS, Lazarus etc which are great and I envy those people who have them!
I have a Blu-Ray version but not the 4K one, (digital copies).
Please help. Thank you.

OTHER Interstellar
i think one of the many reasons why interstellar gained such wide recognition even among the people who usually don't watch such genre is because instead of relaying a vague and the same old "look how far humans can reach", "we are such great beings" message, this movie is goes far much deeper and real. It circles around the themes of time, regret, death, longing and this makes it so much more emotional and something we can connect to instead of other space voyage fictional, mission centered movies. The words, the poems, the music, the emtions....they all feel too real. From the start it has always been this gut wrenching, hauntingly beautiful piece of cinema that stands as an original. Matthew McConaughey and Jessica Chastain have outdone the capacity of excellence!
Its actually not a movie about space exploration and mission "find another planet", its actually a film that has taken the credit of aspiring the youth to become interested in science, a film that has opened our brain to our own insignificance and importance at the same time. no cooper? the actions will take their course either way. A lot of cooper from the future, unaware of each other and still accurately so? you are always at the right place at the right time. and more than anything else, love transcends all.

QUESTION 70mm imax
In 2024 I think the 70mm IMAX film was doing a tour and showing at various 70mm theaters in the US.
Any idea when it’ll come back around? Any places still showing it in this format?

QUESTION Should Coop have gone in the first place ?
Was having a conversation about this recently with someone and we had opposing views. Wanted to see what other people thought.
I think Coop shouldn’t have taken the job to go on the mission.
From a family point of view, his kid’s mother had died, he was all the kids had. I know he left them with their grandpa but he was old already, did he have anything set up for who was going to take care of the kids if anything happened to the grandpa in their youth?
Obviously, the mission was of the most importance for mankind’s survival. But did he need to be the one to do it? Logically, if he wasn’t going to do it they would have found someone else, there was a personal element in his selection and they said there’s no one else better for the job but obviously they’re going to say that.
My main thing is, in the decision to take the job, saving mankind and the future of mankind is clearly a big reason to do it, but I don’t think I can ignore the selfishness of another reason being it is a once in a lifetime opportunity, what Coop went to do was one of the most amazing things anyone even slightly interested in space exploration could do.
He had a duty as a father that I don’t think was upheld. The kids went through 2 losses at that time and at the end of the day he wasn’t there for them. The person I was talking to said that’s the difference between a mother and a father but that’s an arbitrary argument, there are plenty of fathers out there that wouldn’t have gone and mothers that would.
I honestly think on a family level, I wouldn’t have accepted his choice to leave as a valid one. He honestly had no way of knowing if he was ever going to come back, I think once you make a family, choices like that aren’t so respectable.
Small note as well, I couldn’t help but feel that when I was having this discussion when the argument that he was saving Humankind came up the sentiment behind it really felt like one of ego as opposed to actually caring about saving the world. (This hasn’t to do with the movie ahaha) but that’s one of the reasons I refuted it as selfish, it sounded more like a personal goal as instead of caring about all the individual people he was saving.
I love this movie by the way, Coop is a respectable character that obviously sacrificed a lot. But that’s doesn’t mean his choices can’t be questioned.
Anyways I’d love to hear what other people think.
