My mother brought me to see Snooty, the now deceased, still oldest confirmed manatee ever, a month after I was born in 92. And he swam up to check me out.

That's awesome! It's Snooty's old tank! They used to bring us there on school trips. We would all walk right up to the edge of his tank and sometimes they would let us feed him lettuce and pet him. I miss the big guy. Justice for Snooty!!

Manatees are so incredible. I was lucky to see Snooty a few years before his death. I cried when he passed away. I have his magnet on my refrigerator and look at him daily. Rest in peace Snooty!

I don’t remember this specific first encounter. But Snooty way our unofficial town mascot. We all loved him and manatees in general. To be clear, I grew up in Manatee County, we boarded the Manatee river, our main road was Manatee Ave, I graduated from Manatee HS. Soo yeah, we loved our local Manatees. ESPECIALLY Snooty.

I mean, they’ve pretty much been gentle giants for as long as humans have known about them… so I’d say as long as they’ve been known to humans. That’s just my guess.

When a flash is used it usually uses a quick shutter speed, a normally lit indoor area might require like 1/40th of a second shutter speed but with a flash it might get up to like 1/250th to freeze movement…this results in everything looking dark because the flash is the only thing providing the light as the natural light isn’t getting caught at that fast of a shutter speed.

There's probably plenty of ambient light, but the camera flash is brighter, so it tends to wash out the other shadows.

I remember Snooty!!!
I saw him on my first trip to FL it was two years after 9/11 and it was my first time in a plane.
Such a big trip for me, even though I was just visiting my grandparents who lived right around the corner from where Snooty was, it was still one of the best trips of my childhood!
WOW….now I need to try and find my pics!

Well, my bad then. Snooty was the oldest my entire life until his tragic drowning accident due to someone’s negligence. After that, I wasn’t really watching out for who would take his place. Snooty was my hometown mascot. I grew up with Snooty, and other manatees. It hits home to me. I’m guessing you didn’t and you just google searched to post that. Not saying any harm or foul, but just know we’re coming from 2 different countries places.
