I’d say it’s a brilliant marketing for a printing business.

u/burbular 1d ago

And then they Collab with Tony LC Sign

197

u/Annalog 1d ago

“No it’s cuz u fat. Anyways we got signs” I love that guy

60

u/technobrendo 1d ago

Tony is the OG Chinese social media (Little red book) guy along with the Trump guy

13

u/Its_Dope_tito 21h ago

And Tina got many many many engine in her factory

2

Oh yea, I forgot about her too. I need a SR20DET please!

17

u/stockflethoverTDS 1d ago

Hi! Ah em Eee Long Ma.

10

u/MaleficentPlate69 1d ago

I got that reference. It’s that Chinese guy with his neon light sign business, isn’t it?

7

u/burbular 1d ago

Indeed, tis the man

22

u/letsgotgoing 1d ago

Tony is legit better at marketing than any other name I can think of. I'm surprised he hasn't scored a bigger deal than LC Sign yet. I guess he's too edgy.

9

u/DraconPern 15h ago

In a past vid, he implied that he helped get so much business that they gave him some ownership in the business. He drives an audi now :)

3

u/Senkoy 14h ago

Good for him.

4

u/somedelightfulmoron 1d ago

He might be big here in the "west" but I don't think he's that popular in China.

Funny clip too if you understand and speak Cantonese (spoken in the province Guangdong, Hong Kong and Maccau).

It's funny even if I just speak completely unrelated languages.

Unfortunately I dont speak Cantonese. Please translate if you dont mind 🙏🏼 TIA

7

I'm too lazy to translate everything, but I like the part when he gave out tissues to people. One of the thing he said was: "here for you to wipe your ass".

10

translate

ahhh
ah, so clumsy
how is it, does it look good?
please take use to prop up table leg, take to wipe your mouth, take to wipe shit
wifey, yahhh
just a bunch of hellos to phone
didn't catch this one, probably a surprise or you're here thing
lets eat here
wife, taking a photo
oh you're back
wife, is it hot?
cheers, you!

The subs at 0:54 say **这么巧 (zhè me qiăo), Mandarin equivalent of saying "what a coincidence" when seeing someone. The Canto version would be 甘啱嘅 (gam3 ngaam1 ge3).

But he doesn't actually say that. It sounds like he's saying 心跳呀 (sam1 tiu3 aa3). Literal translation "my heart jumped", in context as "you startled me".

3

u/phileo99 14h ago

I think the last one is:

Cheers!

You @$$hole ( but gets cut off)

2

I'm amazed how Reddit picks up every video that trends on Twitter and half of TikTok and posts it a day later lol.

It's like clockwork these days. Bots trying to get karma I guess.

Eh, as someone who can’t be bothered to use either of those two platforms, I don’t mind it.

So mission accomplished?

5

Us grandpa's who used reddit back in the olden days of 2014 remember when we had all the memes first

But actually we did, reddit's old system and community was way ahead of virtually everything else for a few years.

Very very much not the case anymore

Landfillcore

85

u/FishySmellz 1d ago

Good thing China is burning so much trash for electricity that they’ve been digging up landfills from decades again.

18

u/Famous-Attention-197 1d ago

It's actually the opposite. They're providing so little trash that they're digging up old landfills to keep plants running at optimal levels since you can't just shut them off.

They've gotten so good as recycling and reducing waste, that they need to dig up old trash to run the generators.

Other major countries also burn waste for electricity.

8

u/CaliphateofCataphrac 23h ago

You can shut them off. But they are owned by individual businesses, not the party. And they will prefer not shut them off because losing money. People lease those plants from the party. Hence a mix between communism and capitalism

2

u/S1lentA0 13h ago

Sure, everything can be shut off, its the starting up that takes time and effort. Cooling down stuff that is normally very hot will create structural damage like cracks. I had the pleasure of starting up a medium sized incinerator on a ship, took me at least an hour or 2 if it was working as intended. Im curious how much time it will take to slowly start up an industrial incinerator, heating up the attached steam system and spin up a generator. Better to just let it run instead of needlessly shutting it down.

2

u/CaliphateofCataphrac 12h ago

You are right. A Chinese sourced news from Shanghai in 2021 shows that it takes average 5 days to restart the incinerator, and would cause about 1.26m RMB lost.

I also find 2 listed Chinese companies, if you are interested:

wait what? is that a good or bad thing?

42

u/J0hnGrimm 1d ago

Depends on what kind of waste it is and the facility it is burned in. Landfills slowly emit CO2 and methane so burning it in a modern facility with good filters could be better in the long run.

→ More replies (2)

15

u/Famous-Attention-197 1d ago

In this case it's mostly good though burning trash obviously is never great.

Basically they've done such a good job recycling and reducing waste, that they now have to dig up old landfills to keep generators running at minimum levels since these aren't things you can just turn off and turn back on again.

It has a benefit that now these sites that were just literal trash heaps can now be used for other shit.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/SnekyKitty 11h ago

Bad, their environmental health effects on the local population have been linked to birth defects, since regulation is a shitshow, nobody will actually validate their standards. The facilities at inception were mostly likely installed with the latest air pollution control systems, but these systems are expensive to maintain and were probably neglected after operations normalized.

I love how things that are clearly staged are now labeled "fake." Someone should let TV and movie studios know that all they're doing is making fake content.

145

u/Seniorjones2837 1d ago

It’s hilarious how excited people are to run to every post and call it fake

21

u/Venum555 1d ago

I don't particularly care if something is staged or fake. I care if I'm entertained and suspending my disbelief can help me be entertained.

If the idea is to trick you into believing that it is organic, then it is fake.

4

u/Sharp_Economy1401 1d ago

Most of the time with these videos, the only people who could possibly think that these are trying to trick you into believing they're organic, are people who tricked themselves into thinking it was organic because they're pretty slow in the head.

People like that then feeling the need to state the obvious to everyone, as though they have some remarkable tier of insight that the rest of us don't, is just an absurd irony. When it's less clear, it's one thing, but not when there's an obvious recording device being held between two people to make the video

2

u/PeopleCallMeSimon 1d ago

Man this is such an oversimplified and ignorant take, i dont even know where to begin.

Did you know that congressmen and senators has used the TV show 24 in their arguments as to why torture works in interrogations?

Of course there are people who are being "tricked". But thats the wrong word. The creator isnt trying to trick them. Some viewers just get the misconception that this is real.

I dont think there is any malice behind the creators of this video. But there will be some subset of the people who sees it that will think "Man that relationship seems real fun, i wish mine was like that". And not "hah, this was a funny staged skit".

6

u/PeopleCallMeSimon 1d ago

The video is clearly posted on a platform where people post stuff from their regular lives.

If this was shown on Channel 4 or in a movie theatre nobody would run to call it out as "fake". But when its on social media surrounded by real posts, then this becomes a fake post.

When we watch tv and fiction in general, we know what we’re watching is fake, there’s no pretence that it’s trying to come across as factual.

Reddit, and social media in general, are more “authentic”, so you’re starting from a different base, hence why it’s called out as fake - it’s the shortest easiest way to tell others it’s more of an advertisement than authentic

23

u/RCer1986 1d ago

"Skit" also has four letters. That goes a step further in telling others that it's both fake and intentional.

7

u/El_Sephiroth 1d ago

2

u/Silly_Rub_6304 1d ago

Just goes to show the vocabulary level of the average person these days absolutely sucks. There's a clear distinction between "staged" and "fake," yet nobody seems to understand that.

5

u/PeopleCallMeSimon 1d ago

They are labled as "fake" because the creators are posting it with the premise that its something that just happens in their relationship.

You dont sit on instagram and randomly watch 2 hours of Michael Jordan beating a bunch of monsters at basketball. But you will scroll through images of your friends lives and then suddenly see something like this from a stranger, when you are in "scroll through and see what people are doing"-mode.

u/OnceMoreAndAgain 1d ago

To me, the crux of this is whether or not the creator of the staged contents expects you to be aware if it staged or not.

SNL is staged content where the creators expects you to be aware that it is staged. Everyone watching SNL knows it is staged.

Some social media posts are staged content where the creator is hoping the viewer won't know it's staged. That's what bothers people. Examples of this are staged moments that are meant to seem spontaneous, like someone juggling a piece of trash with their feet in some impressive way that ends up with it in the trash bin and recorded by a nearby security camera.

I'd say this particular social media content expects the viewer to quickly notice that the woman's reactions and involvement are staged. It's not trying to fool you into thinking it's spontaneous, unscripted moments...

Framed as a guy making a series of videos of him teasing his girlfriend to post to social media showing what a funny goofy guy he is.

Actually are all actors following a script a company made so they can post an advertisement. None of the funny reactions are genuine or capturing a genuine slice of life, hence the framing that they are is “fake”
