Curious if anyone knows of any communities that are focused on simplistic, low-impact ways of living, more analog, lower-tech ways of life.
I'm seeing lots of these new communities popping up that claim to be focused on living in harmony with nature and sustainable etc. but it's just the same old beige buildings made with some new "sustainable" material/methods covered with solar panels and wifi everywhere with yoga and meditation and vegan meals mostly occupied by "conscious" instagram influencers and "enlightened" DMT-eating tech bros.
I'm imagining more like hand-made crafting, lots of farming/husbandry, herbalism, a lot of work done by hand rather than machine, not reliant on modern tech, deeply focused on close coexistence with and maybe even conservation of nature, and using traditional knowledge and older ways of living rather than "forward" thinking modernist utopian views with the latest high tech whatever (although not necessarily rejecting such things, just not putting them at the forefront of solutions)
Maybe something like the Amish but not necessarily religious and much more focused on nature.
I just renewed my lease, so I’m set for the near future, but I’m looking ahead and want to explore shared housing options down the line in New Haven.
I think there’s a real need for good shared living or co-housing options for the 50+ crowd—a setup for people who want community and shared space without giving up their independence.

This August I'm planning to visit the European Rainbow Gathering in Spain. I've always been fascinated by unique communities and stories, and besides that I'm on my own spiritual journey as well. Together with my love for interviewing people and making immersive YouTube videos, it feels like the right time to experience a Rainbow Gathering myself.
My goal is to document the Gathering in a respectful way and let people tell their own stories. Of course, I want to do everything respectfully. Once I'm there, I'll bring my project to the Main Circle and ask for consensus before filming, and I'll respect the community's wishes.
I'm looking for people who would be open to being interviewed during the Gathering. I'd much rather connect beforehand than walk up to random people with a camera. If you're open to sharing your story, your experience with Rainbow, or simply having a conversation, I'd love to hear from you.

Has anyone visited or applied to this place? I stumbled upon it via instagram, but after doing some due diligence I can’t find any discussions about them online, which given the apparent scale of the project, seems unusual. I also found a website parodying them, suggesting things like lack of updates, pipe dreams that aren’t based in reality, or that they avoid pertinent questions, which seems like a red flag to me. Thoughts?
Hi, I just watched "Dinner with Andre" and they reference the intentional community of Findhorn fairly extensively. I was trying to think of other references to or inclusions of intentional community (not cults) in other things I've seen and couldn't think of very many...maybe "The East" by Brit Marling would count. We’re a couple running a small farm in Missouri — market garden, orchard, woodlot, laying flock — and we’re looking for people who feel the same pull we do: away from the systems that don’t serve us, and toward something slower, real, and shared.
We’re not looking for renters or a commune in the abstract. We’re looking for people who want to build — entrepreneurs, makers, growers, cooks, craftspeople — folks who want more freedom and are willing to create it themselves rather than wait for permission. This is a place oriented around land, food, and inner work as much as logistics — we care about connection to the earth and to ourselves, not just efficient homesteading. Hey there everybody. I’m not sure if this is the right place for it, but I’ve recently purchased 8 acres in WV. There’s a well, power lines, and a trailer currently on the property. 15 minute drive to civilization, though calling a town with 450 people civilization may be a stretch depending on where you’re from.
My goal is pretty simple, have a group of 2-4 people who live and work on the land. No huge dreams, no cult behavior, just some people who want to trade time for time instead of money. My expenses are insanely low, but I’m not currently in a financial (or resource) position to open the doors to all comers.
I worked as a welder for most of my working life, though I’ve done bits of work in the other trades, and many things besides. I’m looking for people who are ready to opt out of being wrung dry by monthly expenses that secretly don’t need to exist. And gardeners.
I have to emphasize that it’s not free. I won’t ask for anything more than what it takes to keep you alive, which, if my math is right, is like 80 bucks a month, possibly less (dunno what your tolerance for a bland diet is) but I’m not rich. I’m poorer than I have been in years, all for the sake of buying this land. I’ve got around 10k left and I’m treating it like gold. Half of it might go to solar and a truck. If you just want to spend a few months living a stress-free life, come my way. If you want to build something that outlasts the both of us, let’s have a chat.

For years I've dreamed of creating a village where families can learn, grow, gather, and belong together. A place that extends beyond academics and embraces lifelong learning, meaningful friendships, and community.
The Homelearning Woods isn't just for homeschoolers. We're welcoming homeschooling, homelearning, unschooling, eclectic learning, neurodivergent learners, lifelong learners, and families simply looking for connection and support.
My hope is that this becomes more than a Facebook group. I want it to become a village.

I’m an architecture student currently designing an Artist Housing Community as part of my semester project. The goal is to create a place where artists can comfortably live, work, and connect with one another. The community is intended for both visual and performing artists, and every residence will include a dedicated studio or creative workspace.
As I develop the design, I would love to hear directly from artists and creative professionals.
If you had the opportunity to live in an artist-focused residential community, what spaces, facilities, or amenities would be most valuable to you? Hey everyone! My husband and I (and some close friends of ours) are looking for a couple of families to join us as cofounders for a community in New England. We are still in the planning phase (planning to look for land next May) so I will try to articulate what feels determined and what is open and flexible still. I have a background as a teacher in alternative education (forest school and Waldorf) and currently work as a therapist. My husband is a carpenter and is working on timber framing for his current project. We have a 2 year old and plan to have more kids! Right now we are living on a farm with communal meals during the week, but we are looking to create something more family centered that has a little more autonomy and flexibility. We value hyper local community, lowering consumption and dependence on global industrial systems, land stewardship, and restoration of land based skills. Our vision is to gather likeminded families (and individuals, but emphasis on families) to live on land with us. We’re looking for other families because we really believe that humans need to live closely and collaborate. A big part of this is raising kids safely in close proximity to each other and with other parents who are parenting with similar values. Some kind of alternative school / homeschool coop on the land is in the vision. We intend to have our own home and garden, and would be happy for other people on the land to arrange independent households or co-living situations as they prefer. We are also currently still flexible on financial arrangements (between other families who want to rent, lease land to build houses they would own, or even dividing the land ownership - also open to more communal land ownership). We are currently mostly envisioning that people will work independently. We have chickens and all have farming backgrounds - a big part of our vision is to grow and raise a lot of our own food and products. We would love to invite in other founders with similar values and vision. Please ask any clarifying questions, I feel like I’m missing a lot but don’t want to make the post extraordinarily long!

My story and my ancestral roots begin approximately 10,000 years ago in the Sumerian and Mesopotamian region.
Some 2,500 years ago, under the Emperor Cyrus the Great, that world expanded across three continents and over twenty nations — perhaps the first and only true United Nations in human history. Within it lived many religions, languages, cultures, and ways of life. Cyrus abolished slavery. He wrote the Declaration of Human Rights in 500 BC — a document now displayed at the United Nations building in New York. Citizens were free to practice their own religions, speak their own languages, keep their own Kings and Queens, set their own wages, and hold their leaders accountable if they felt mistreated or persecuted.
At the same time, the first monotheistic religion existed in that same region , Zoroastrianism. Its followers protected Earth, air, and fire as sacred. Their mantra was simple and remains unmatched:
Good Thoughts. Good Words. Good Deeds.
That was 2,500 years ago.
Fast forward to 57 years ago, when I arrived at the scene.
I was abused, forced to conform, beaten, and persecuted for beliefs I didn’t hold and a mind that worked differently than those around me demanded. Like so many neurodivergent people , those labeled ADHD, dyslexic, and everything in between ,I had no recognition, no guidance, no protection, no representation, no community and no financial means.
I came to Canada over 40 years ago. One would have thought it would be uphill from there.
They would be wrong.
But this is not about me. It’s about you.
Tired of the mistreatment, the underrepresentation, the marginalization that followed me even here , I have decided to attempt something that hasn’t been done, at least not in the last 2,500 years.
Not a religion. Something more fundamental.
An organization of sorts for the ones who don’t fit into a box. For those who believe in protecting our food, our soil, our air, our water. Not just for us, not just for egotistical humans, but for every inhabitant that calls this planet home. Just as those early beings understood thousands of years ago.
What does Nura mean?
Nura draws from ancient roots meaning light and nurture. It does not belong to any single culture, because it was never meant to.
Who is Nura for?
Nura is for you if traditional organized religion was never designed with you in mind, yes even if you are an atheist. Because wanting clean water, clean food, and clean air should require no faith declaration. Wanting the freedom to believe in nothing after this life should cost nothing.
Nura is for you if you have been misjudged because of how differently your brain is wired. If you were passed over because you refused to conform to someone else’s idea of who you should be. If you were persecuted for a body that is entirely your own.
Nura is for the left-out. The cast-aside. The ones the systems never cared for.
What Nura is not:
There is no high priest or priestess here. I don’t have all the answers. I don’t know everything. I am forever learning and evolving. Age and wisdom are not automatically connected, I learn daily from people many decades my junior.
I simply want to start something that covers those who were never covered. Together, united, we can create an alternative to the one-size-fits-all, which, as we all know, fits none.

Hey everyone, long time dreamer of intentional community and non conventional living here, looking to gauge interest. 3 years ago my wife and I bought a house on .6 acs in Fort Worth, Tx. I rent the house out to my brother while my wife and I (with 2 kids) live in an RV on the property. My mom has since moved onto the place and eventually my dad wants to as well. Recently I was given the opportunity to purchase an additional 5.4 acs landlocked behind us, making our property a full 6ac. It’s not enough to build an entire eco village out of, but it is certainly enough space to share with a few other like minded families. I have a good understanding of ownership structures when it comes to real property and plan to probably just build sites for tiny homes or park models. I am also very good at screening, as I’ve worked as a property manager for years. There are no county level building restrictions where I am so even building a few small houses would be very achievable. Im open to negotiating portions of ownership as well, but it’s less straightforward. I’ve worked in psych settings for a decade so I’m really good at conflict resolution too. It feels like all my skills are finally adding up to something that makes sense in my life and if I don’t take the opportunity, I think I’ll regret not trying to build that thing that feels like it’s missing, community. I’m really just trying to get people’s honest opinions on the viability of this scenario and am not marketing anything. How do I go about meeting people that may be interested in this kind of arrangement and what pitfalls could you see in building this type of life with other people? Do you think creating a bio for my family would help people understand what kind of fellow humans we are looking for? Really just trying to see if people think this is even viable in Texas. DFW is such a huge place, there’s got to be likeminded individuals somewhere around here…right?
I’ve seen a lot of people looking for community but either don’t have the money or hate dealing with money. What if I started a community where you don’t pay or get paid(technically)? All your needs are met and if you decide to leave whatever money I have saved up for you based on your contributions would be given to you. I would totally be in a position to take advantage of people financially there’s no doubt about that. But for a moment let’s pretend I’m not a POS trying to scam or enslave people. How many of you would be interested in something like this? Also this wouldn’t necessarily be a requirement. If some people would rather go dollar for dollar that would obviously be fine. This is more directed at you autistic fks who don’t like dealing with money, let papa take care of it. 😘
