Just wondering what are some of y’all’s favorite projects in college and if they helped you be where you are now / built transferable knowledge

I've been offered a process engineering role for a chemical product manufacturer at 115k base plus 5% 401k match but no bonus. The main focus is yield improvement through independent DMAIC projects and quality department based PDCA plans.

I'm currently a process engineer in pharmaceutical contract manufacturing making 91K base plus 6% match and 8% bonus based on company performance. I have seen anywhere from 1% to 7% bonus so far in three years and solely COL 2.5% annual raises.

Would leaving pharmaceutical manufacturing for chemical product manufacturing for the 19.18% raise and transition way from the large pharma politics be worth it? I'm scared I am looking at the short term gain without seeing the long term full picture of my career.

Hello I am going into my freshman year of college but I was wondering if anyone had some advice? I want to pursue an industrial engineering degree. I do love to do art however I want to keep art as a hobby. But I am naturally a curious person and doing art has helped me be a creative person like I do like to build things, solve problems, take things apart etc. However I’m out of practice with my math skills like wayyy out of practice. I took algebra 1 in 8th grade and enjoyed it and got an A. But then I went to high school, jumped straight into algebra 2 with a teacher who barely taught us and that was my downfall. I was good in geometry my sophomore year however junior year I took a math class that had a long term sub so we didn’t learn anything…. Senior year I did not take any math class. I would say I’m bad at math but that’s not the case I just haven’t had a real math class in years and I never took it upon myself to learn on my own. So I would really be re building and re learning my math skills here. Any advice? Tips? I’d appreciate anyone’s honest opinion!

Right now I am majoring in business with an emphasis on accounting, though I recently realized that my passion simply isn’t there. I want to change to a field of engineering, and IE has caught my eye. The issue? I’m at a 2 year college. They can offer me an AS in IE, but afterwards? Only two colleges in my state offer a BSD in IE, one with a strict enrollment process and the other being 2 hours away. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I really am having a trouble about the things that I should focus on. Insights from you guys would be helpful.

Working on a process mapping project for intermodal freight terminals and trying to benchmark gate throughput times.

Specifically focusing on the inbound/outbound interchange gate where physical container condition and liability are checked.

• For medium-to-large hubs, what is considered an acceptable cycle time per truck just for the damage/security verification?
• Is anyone actually seeing fully automated OCR/imaging systems working reliably in the wild, or is the industry still fundamentally stuck using manual guard checks and clipboard logs to log structural issues?

Appreciate any insight from anyone managing terminal ops or gate layouts.

I am in USA and worked in the manufacturing industry for 5 years in roles related to quality engineering, automation and digital manufacturing.
After that I went back to school for a PhD in AI/ML. Now I am about to graduate and looking for opportunities that are related to manufacturing.

Any ideas what type of roles/organizations can value manufacturing industrial experience along with AI/ML expertise?
Also, I may add that I am on a visa in USA and government labs or defense organizations are out of reach :(

I am currently an IE major in my sophomore year however my plan is to get into finance. I chose this major because of the technical skills it brings and am hoping to standout to recruiters by having a STEM major. Im targeting more analyst/technical finance jobs like FP&A, Risk management, Consulting. Im planning to pick up an accounting minor and join a Finance club to help this transition. My question is basically is this a good plan and for people who have seen others go down this path or done it themselves and what advice they would offer?

I haven’t touched physics in 3 years (chose biology in high school) and have basically forgotten all of it.

Are there any good resources to relearn basic physics / early university physics?

I’m about to start my 4th year in my ie degree, and I’ve yet to join any clubs tbh, we do have a iise chapter and another student ie group called kaizen, a pmi chapter and many others that are relevant, but the reason I haven’t become a member yet is that the each of them have a toxic environment, most guys who join only joined to get with girls and they start spreading rumors and stuff, inside each club there are a close group of friends that are in charge of everything and you would never get a leadership position unless you are friends with them, I attend all the helpful conferences and site visits and workshops, but it’s the joining that I never commit to…

So am I going about this incorrectly? Or does it not matter

I am currently working on making a list of internships/research opportunities for next summer and I was wondering if anyone has any experience any kind of IE internships/research related to sustainability? I am not necessarily interested in a specific field right now, I am just passionate about the environment and would love to learn more about how IE can be used in this space.

I am an industrial and systems engineering student who will be studying abroad in Europe next Spring. Ideally, I would love to get an internship over there so I can extend my stay through the summer. I know it can be incredibly challenging to get an internship abroad, especially with visas and whatnot, but I am wondering if anyone has had luck/experience with this process? Is it something worth pursuing or should I stick to applying to internships in the US?
