Like the title says is am looking for info on how to build a half bridge amplifier that connects to flyback transformer or other HV transformers.

Looking for recomendations on vacuum interrupter design. Anyone read "The Vacuum Interrupter" by Paul G. Slade? Is it good? Are there better books?

Help on hv rectifier

Post image

Looking at the voltage across resistors hooked to the full bridge rectifier i see this pattern of a chopped wave (blue is input for the transformer and yellow is voltage measured across 1 kohm resistor in the rectified part of circuit). Is this normal and caused by some sort of parasitic inductance or are the diodes simply not fast enough for the frequency and so they dont produce normal waves? Or maybe the diodes themselves are faulty? I made the rectifier by soldering 20 diodes together.

Inspired in Itegza's plasma turbine, but with some steroids. I think that the ideal number of spikes are a couple more but still works fine. I have to adjust the inclination for a more efficient corona discharge. It produces a lot of trust, sound and a big amount of ozone.

Will my 20Kv diode survive?

I currently have a 20 kV-rated diode and want to run a 12 kV neon sign transformer through it.

Math-wise, that's about 17 kV, I think, which is a 15% difference. I asked Google, and it's shouting at me not to do this, as the difference should at least be 25%.

Is it best not to proceed?

Plasma drone

Hello I came upon a cool type of propulsion it's basically MHD but in air with plasma, it should work like this:

- the whole drone is shaped as a saucer ( I know it's comic but the shape is needed for coanda effects)

- the surface I charged with HV creating a skin of plasma around the drone

- the plasma is then propelled with two electrodes radial in respect to the drone and a magnet below the surface

- the stream of plasma through coanda effect curves around the saucer pushing it below generating high pressure lifting then the drone

I said "it should work" because I still haven't started building it cause I don't know how to get a consistent plasma skin around the craft without having hot plasma or magnetron on board ( a drone is too small to have heavy things inside).

So here I am asking you if you could help me build this plasma skin around the drone, the closest thing i arrived to was a DBD with insulated plates but I couldn't do it, maybe cause of too little power from my cheap HV modules ( I don't want to burn my last flyback before knowing it can do what I need) or maybe it was not the right frequency ( air need GHz frequencies to "resonate" and generate plasma but I care about my lungs and don't want anything to do with magnetron's ceramic poisoning).

So how can I do this?

Thank you for your help

P.S. I know I could just create plasma in the starting position with 2 electrodes on top of the rails, but I want it like a skin to reduce air resistance

What matters most in a high voltage power supply for ozone generators?

Hi everyone,

For engineers working with corona-discharge ozone generators in medical, water-treatment, or other industrial applications: what are the key requirements for the high-voltage power supply?

Which factors matter most—voltage, frequency, waveform, power regulation, efficiency, fault detection, or something else? What are the main integration or reliability issues with existing solutions?

If possible, please mention your application and area of experience. Thanks for any practical insights!

A question about the circuit layout of spark gap tesla coils

Post image
20 Upvotes

Is there any difference between these two SGTC configurations? Functionally they should behave the same, but are there advantages/disadvantages or considerations that need to be applied to either of the two? Something that comes to my mind is that in the bottom design the spark gap shorts the transformer's secondary coil, which shouldn't be good long term.

so I’m making a Tesla coil and I have two nst. as u can see in the photo the bushing is cracked. Should I try fixing it? I think it might arc to the casing, so I really don’t want to ignore it. I don’t even know how feasible fixing it would be. Will I just have to find a new one? It is 15kV 60mA and they are old iron core.
