Hello, firstly, I want to say that I know Judas Priest is a very known band and is a classic when it comes to the Heavy Metal scene. My excuse that I discovered them so late is that I am young. I was born in 2005 and I am currently 21. I started listening to metal 2-3 years ago and listened to nu-metal, alternative metal in general. I did listen to Black Sabbath as well and love them too, but I am not very familiar with the classic metal bands, if I can say so. But, recently I came across Judas Priest and I can say that I can't stop listening to them. I love their music. If you have any other band recommendation for me, please tell me!

RIP Ozzy (1948-2025). We'll never forget you!

Hard to believe it's been a year since Ozzy Osbourne passed away. I'm so grateful that I got to see him live numerous times - both with Black Sabbath and solo. Thr last time saw him onstage was at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Sept. 2018, and while it was dubbed the "No More Tours 2", it didn't feel like a "farewell tour".... maybe because deep down I just assumed he'd never cease touring (though as time sadly would tell, this did indeed become his final tour), but also because he was still putting on a top notched production (seriously, look at the lights used during "Mr. Crowley" in this video!) And while maybe not performing at his youthful peak still sounded and looked like he was full of energy to spare. Hell, I'm still amazed I witnessed Ozzy during that show acknowledge he messed up "Mama I'm Coming Home" and insisted on restarting it so he could do it right... but that's a story for another time 😉

That was the last time I saw Ozzy solo, but the last time I saw Black Sabbath was Feb. 2016 at Madison Square Garden during their last "The End" tour. That show also didn’t feel like a "final" show - similarly felt that the chances of seeing Sabbath again live were high, but was excited for the chance to at least see the last time Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne played at the famed NYC arena.... Anf yes, they lived up to the moment.

However, while many people's encounters with the Prince of Darkness likely have an over-the-top, almost unbelievable story to tell about it - one that lives up to his wildman reputation - mine was almost the polar opposite of that… and involved my mom…

Not sure what's wilder - that nearly 40 years ago today (39 years July 21 to be exact) Guns N' Roses released "Appetite for Destruction" or that 10 years ago this week I saw their "Not In This Lifetime" tour's stop at MetLife Stadium (July 23, exactly). I'll share more memories from that concert another time, but witnessing Axl Rose and Slash on the same stage while playing "Sweet Child O' Mine" proved to be an especially emotional moment (though even just seeing them walking by each other throughout the night got me teary eyed). It's one of those songs from my childhood I'll always have a personal connection to (hell, that was the song I dance to with my mom at my wedding), so hearing them play it live together (after spending most of my life accepting the fact I'd likely never see Axl and Slash in the same room together, let alone on stage) brought on more emotions than I had prepared for.

I've been listening to nu metal for years, but recently I've become interested in exploring traditional heavy metal and getting into the more old-school side of the rock/metal community. The problem is that I'm having a hard time finding bands and songs that really click with me. I know maybe this just isn't for me, but I'd really like to discover it in a way that's enjoyable yk

Any recommendations for someone coming from a nu metal background?

I play guitar and am looking to start a melodic death metal and/or folk metal band. My influences include Children of Bodom, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, and Mors Principium Est. Feel free to ask any questions.
