as promised, pictures of the finished product. I am proud of the first one and know that they'll only look better and go together quicker from here, spent about 4 hours total but I was also smoking/drinking/hanging with friends while doing so. as I mentioned, I'd love to exchange patches, especially if you or someone you know has a really cool handmade patch.

Does anyone have details on today's NYC 7-11 hash? I had looked at the NYC H3 website a couple of weeks ago and it listed 7/11 with location TBD in Queens. Now I can't find it on the calendar anywhere. They have also seemed to change their website to show the calendar by kennel rather than one calendar for all the local NYC kennels.

How are y'all cleaning your shiggy socks?

I have tried pre soaking them in vinegar and oxy clean. I have tried washing them multiple times. No matter what I can't get the rinse water to run clear.

A friend of mine recently got out of rehab after struggling with alcohol addiction. He had been involved with the Hash House Harriers for over 10 years, and it’s made me think about the culture of the hash in a way I hadn’t before.

I know the hash has always had a reputation as a “drinking club with a running problem.” For most people, that’s just part of the fun. But for my friend, it became a place where his addiction could hide in plain sight.

When heavy drinking is normalized, it’s easy for someone with a problem to blend in. If everyone is drinking, who notices when one person is drinking too much? If hangovers, blackouts, and stories about getting hammered are part of the culture, where’s the line between social drinking and a serious problem?

I’m not blaming the hash for my friend’s addiction. Ultimately, addiction is complicated and personal. But it does make me wonder whether some hash groups do enough to recognize when someone is struggling, or whether the party culture can sometimes unintentionally enable it.

For current and former hashers: Have you ever seen someone whose drinking became a concern? Did your kennel have ways to support sober members, or was alcohol so central to the experience that it would have been difficult?

At what point does “it’s just part of the culture” become too much? I’ve seen too many folks who can’t handle the adult part.
