Today reminded me why life is still good
This afternoon I stopped at the grocery store after the gym. There was a young dad in front of me with two little kids who were melting down hard. He looked exhausted, juggling a full cart, trying to calm them, and clearly stressed about the growing line behind him. One of the kids knocked over a display of candy bars, and the dad just looked defeated, like he was about to break.
I stepped up, helped pick everything up, and told him “Hey man, I’ve got this round” and paid for his groceries (it was only about $85). He tried to refuse but I insisted. The look on his face when he realized it was real… man. He shook my hand, got a little emotional, and said his wife is deployed overseas right now and days like this make him feel completely alone.
We ended up chatting in the parking lot for a few minutes. He told me I restored a little of his faith today. I told him the truth, seeing him out there grinding for his kids actually made my day better too.
Driving home I felt this weird sense of calm. I have been working my ass off and feeling stressed about family and life, but I realized I’m exactly where I need to be. I'm able to help when it matters. Sometimes the universe puts you in the right place at the right time to remind you that you’re not really alone, even when it feels like it.
Grateful for today.
