These are two clips of us jamming on All of Me and Blue Bossa. We haven't played guitar together in over 10 years! It was good to catch up and hang with Ryan Navales Check him out on Tik Tok, he teaches and is posting a lot of cool guitar stuff!

New video release!

Hi Redditors! New video out!

This is the first song I ever wrote. I named it "Insomnia." I wrote it while I was still working early mornings managing at a grocery store — I had this little melody stuck in my head and didn't sleep that night.

The song later became a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. This performance is from a concert at the Academy of Music, a beautiful venue in Northampton, Massachusetts, during Django in June 2025.

I built a free interactive fretboard for gypsy jazz arpeggios & chords, feedback welcome !

Engineer here, learning gypsy jazz. I kept wanting to see arpeggios and chord voicings on the neck, on my phone when i practice outside. Sometimes wanting to see chord shapes & arpeggios at a glance.
I couldn't find anything that did it cleanly without opening several pages, so I built it:

haute-gitanerie.com (free, no ads, works offline / installable)

What's in it:

- Arpeggios in any key ( minor, major, diminished, dom7, m6, m7♭5, 6/9 ) as compact position boxes or long diagonal forms across the whole neck

- Real gypsy chord voicings as interactive diagrams

- A few standards as play-along grids with a metronome (Minor Swing, Blues Mineur, Joseph Joseph, La Partida), transposable to any key

- English (C D E) or solfège (Do Ré Mi) notation

- A small community page featuring players from the scene

It's early and to be honest about it: some diagonal fingerings are still flagged "in progress" (I don't know them all, and sources disagree). I'd genuinely love your input: wrong shapes, missing tunes, players and of course features. Not selling anything, just sharing it with the people who'd actually use it.

Here is a condensed view of features:

https://reddit.com/link/1ux46o8/video/tfslkc9t3ydh1/player

A bit more about me:
As I'm not a jam player yet I try to contribute as I can to gypsy jazz, making videos, organizing events and so on. You can find what I publish on youtube or instagram (axel couty)

Cheers 🎸

Updates, second round (16/07/26)

Quick fix went out 🙌 If you sent a musician profile or feedback recently and didn't hear back, it wasn't you — a submission bug ate it. Just resend, it works now. Merci! 🙏

You can now create & submit tunes

They are first saved on your phone, you can share them with friends.

You can send send them to me to allow me ot add them to the library ! Of course, I'll do a lot myself in the upcoming days but any help is highly appriacte.

Also, I'm trying to make addition/eddition a breaze, playing with UX to make it dead simple & fast. Feedbacks more than welcome !

Updates after first feedbacks (15/07/26)

Arpeggios view
Compare arpeggios

Added Full neck view of arpeggios

Tunes view
The timeline ribbon under the player bar mid-playback

See the current AND next chord on the neck.
The current chord's grip is in green, the upcoming one in blue, so you can prepare your hand for the change.

Neck view

current grip (green) + next grip (blue)

Compare mode — two arpeggios overlaid, shared tones ringed green

Also from the thread:

fuller arpeggio positions across the neck (fewer skipped boxes, CAGED-style), guitarist-friendly note names (E♭/A♭/B♭), and the ♭9 diminished-substitution hint on dominants.

It's bilingual (EN/FR), works offline (installable), and it's genuinely free — I'm a player, not selling anything, except my socials for visibility of (others for now ahah) my channels. Link in the comments to respect the self-promo rules.

Would love more feedback — tunes you'd want added, anything that feels off. Merci!

Hi! Okay, so I’m looking at little boxes for a gj guitar and a voice, multiple channels and di’s are nice, but quality, convenience and affordability are my top three.

I know the compact 60/4 is awesome, I had one a decade ago, don’t ask why I sold it haha.

I’m looking at getting another one, or a da capo 75. But they’re very hard to get and expensive in my area.

Lmq has some interesting options, but I’m just hoping for people to weigh in. I haven’t been able to get my hands on ANY to play

h&K era 1… one of the same designers as aer, different than da capo. Half the price, similar statistics across the board.

Blackstar sonnet 120
Heavier, but the cheapest! $900CAD and has three di outs… is it any good?

Then the acus is an option, but I’m not a fan of the looks, and it’s so close in price to the da capo and the 60/4 that I might just opt in their favour.

Thanks in advance everyone! Anything I missed? All input welcome!

gypsy jazz with lyrics?

I know, it's not pure gypsy jazz but pomplamoose's renditions of Les Yeux Noirs and Nuages leave me yearning for more songs in the gypsy jazz style with lyrics to boot.

A search on youtube brings nothing but AI slop

For sale - Stefan Hahl Gitano 1998 (with some Deluxe model upgrades)

1998 Stefan Hahl Gitano – Petite Bouche

Reluctantly offering my 1998 Stefan Hahl Gitano petite bouche. An exceptional Gypsy jazz guitar with the powerful, rich , articulate tone and effortless playability that has made Stefan Hahl one of the world's most respected luthiers.

This guitar has been a joy to own and is only being sold (extremely regrettably) due to financial commitments. It has been well cared for and plays beautifully.

Comes with a top of the range hexaphonic bridge pickup that amplifies the natural acoustic sound beautifully with tons of headroom as well as the original 2-piece bone saddle bridge.

A rare opportunity to own an early Hahl that would suit both the serious player and collector.

Please feel free to get in touch with any questions or for additional photos, a try, videos or a demonstration.

I'm in the most isolated capital city in the world - Perth, Western Australia - but happy to ship anywhere in the world at buyers expense.

Asking price is $5500USD

Keep downstrokes on the beat?

Hey all, when crossing strings with downstrokes, is there also an effort to keep downstrokes landing on the beat?

Say you’re playing something like an ascending line starting on open B string to open E string, then continuing up the E string to the octave (just a simple scalar run). If you strictly keep downstrokes on beats, the string change can sometimes force two downstrokes in a row before you’re back into alternate picking.

That starts to feel pretty awkward at speed.
How is this usually handled in practice?

Hi there!
The solo on “Oui” is a masterpiece of speed, phrasing, and pure Gypsy Jazz emotion. Figuring it out by ear can mean weeks of frustration... or you can master it today. I’ve transcribed every single note, ghost note, and nuance with absolute precision. You won’t just learn the notes; you’ll unlock the secret behind his unmistakable swing and articulation. Stop guessing and start sounding like a true master. The complete tabs and sheet music are ready for you.

Help Identifying Guitar Model

Yamandu Costa and Antoine Boyer recently released a very beautiful piece called ”Estrada Longa”, the tune's main melody sounds so damn beautiful and I was truly blown away with Antoine's tone in that performance. That being said, does anybody here know what gypsy jazz guitar did Antoine use for the tune? Been searching about this for a bit and many said Antoine has used Selmer and Dupont but from the logo in the music video it does not look like those two brands. Appreciate any help in advance guys!

Hey guys, does anyone know anywhere where I can purchase a gypsy jazz facebook? I've searched all around and there's loads of PDFs but no actual links to paperback copies that look any good.

Anyone got any ideas?

Which way to go?

I really want to start playing gypsy jazz.

Im a blues/jazz player and own 2 electric guitars. I don’t have too much money to spend on a new guitar and wanted some help.

To my knowledge a decent authentic gypsy guitar will run me ~1000eur (correct me if I’m wrong). Problem is where i live there are 4 gypsy jazz players and non of them are planning on selling their guitars any time soon.

So Im thinking of getting a classical/acoustic/archtop guitar and throwing some gypsy strings on it till i can afford something better.

So whats the way to go?

New Single June 25th

Hey Y'all I have a new single coming out soon.

This is the classic Nuages.

This is one of Django's classics that became famous during World War 2. I drew from three of my biggest influences for this one: Django, Joe Pass, and Kosta Lukacs — a Hungarian guitarist with mostly a cult following. Worth looking up if you don't know him.

One take, no edits. Single drops June 25th timed to the Festival Django Reinhardt in Fontainebleau.

pre-save the release here:https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/jimmygrant/nuages?ref=release
