Featured Case #9 - "Justine"

On July 24, 2017, the victim attempted to break into a home in Atlanta, Georgia. They were soon caught by the homeowner, who proceeded to shoot them. While being rushed to the hospital, the victim uttered that their name was either “Justin” or “Justine.”

Due to the feminine clothing the victim was found wearing, it has been theorized that they may have been transgender, though this victim’s gender is unknown, and this is just speculation.

You can see a more detailed document on this case below:

If you have any potential matches we haven't seen, far-fetched or not, please suggest them in the comments.

[Missing] Shawntae RayDiance Wiley Lopez – Missing from Las Cruces, NM since July 2023 (Juárez Lead)

I wanted to share Shawntae's flyers and bring her case to this community to discuss her disappearance.

I actually came across her story by chance while looking for something completely unrelated, but her missing person flyer jumped right out at me. After reading into her situation, I felt compelled to share it here to see what can be done to help raise awareness, and bring her home.

\*The Situation & Known Factors\*

\- \*July 11, 2023:\* Shawntae disappears from Las Cruces, NM.

\- \*July 12, 2023:\* Her family receives a direct phone call from her. During this call, she explicitly states she is across the border in Juárez, Mexico, and is being prevented from leaving.

\-\* Current Status:\* No contact or verified sightings have occurred since that phone call.

Juárez has a deeply troubling history when it comes to the safety and treatment of women, which makes the specific cross-border element of her last known phone call incredibly urgent.

We have to do what we can to help find her and keep her name out there.

\-\* Identifying Marks:\*

Tattoos: Crown on her neck; "Lito" on her left wrist; a heart and "R" on her right hand; three stars behind her right ear; brass knuckles with stars and the name "Daniel" on her abdomen.

\- \*Stats: \*34 at time of disappearance (now 37), 5'5", \~115 lbs, red/Auburn hair, brown eyes.

Larry Eyler Victims

Larry William Eyler (born December 21, 1952) is an American serial killer who murdered at least 21 teenage boys and young men in the American Midwest between 1982 and 1984. Larry Eyler died of AIDS-related complications while awaiting execution in prison on March 6, 1994. Six of his murder victims went unidentified for decades. Now only 3 remain unidentified.

Before I talk about the unidentified and recently identified in his victims. I want to mention the names of the other young men who were never unidentified that didn't deserve what happened to them.

Rest in peace to

Steven Malcom "Steve" Crockett (10/3/1963-10/23/1982)

Edgar Anthony Underkofler (2/15/1956-3/4/1983)

Gustavo Pineda Herrera (3/22/1957-4/8/1983)

The Identified

Brad Doe (1983) & Adam Doe (1983)

On October 18 and 19, 1983, the partially decomposed bodies of four men were discovered alongside an oak tree close to an abandoned farmhouse in Lake Village, Indiana. Each victim had been dead for several months, and all four decedents had been partially buried, with sections of the body of each victim remaining exposed above ground, suggesting the killer, Larry Eyler had made only rudimentary attempts to bury each victim.

Three of the White/Caucasian victims were buried at the other side of the tree, three feet apart, with their heads facing north. The fourth victim, who was a Black/African-American teenager, was buried at the other side of the tree. All four victims had been stabbed more than two dozen times with a blade at least eight inches in length, and the trousers of each victim were discovered around their ankles.

Two of the victims were instantly identified as Michael Christopher Bauer and John Daniel Bartlett. The other two, however, could not be identified. The White/Caucasian victim that was still unidentified was given the placeholder name Brad Doe (1983) and the Black/African American teenager that was still unidentified was given the placeholder name Adam Doe (1983).

Eventually after decades passed, in late 2019 the Newton County Indiana Coroner's Office in a combined effort with the Newton County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, reached out to the DNA Doe Project for assistance with the Brad Doe (1983) case and in April 2021 the DNA Doe Project announced that Brad Doe (1983) was identified as Johnny Ingram "Johnny" Brandenburg Jr who was born on February 14, 1964 and was murdered sometime in May 1983. He finally got his name after 36 years.

In 2020 Newton County Coroner, Scott McCord, brought the Adam Doe (1983) to the DNA Doe Project, hoping the find the same answers they found in the Brad Doe (1983) case. They also reached out to Othram to help as well. After a challenging time due to Black people being underrepresented in the DNA databases available for searching they finally found a match. In July 2023, DNA Doe Project along with Othram announced that Adam Doe (1983) was identified as Kaif Bismallah (born Keith Lavell Bibbs). Keith was missing from Chicago, Illinois and was only 16 years old when he was murdered. He finally got his name after 39 years.

Rest in peace to John Ingram "Johnny" Brandenburg Jr (2/14/1964-5/29/1983) and Keith Lavell Bibbs (6/28/1967-7/20/1983)

Ellis/Jasper County John Doe (1983)

On October 15, 1983, the skeletal remains of a man were found on a private plot of land in a rural field outside of Renssealer, Indiana. After decades passed, in July 2021, Redgrave Research Forensic Services announced that they had taken on John Doe's case and they very quickly found a match. On December 2, 2021, Redgrave Research Forensic Services announced that Jasper County John Doe (1983) was identified as William Joseph "Bill" Lewis who was born on October 13, 1963. He was a hitchhiker who was abducted by Larry on or around November 20, 1982, at a location close to Vincennes, Indiana. He was then murdered via stabbing and left in that field to be found in October 1983. He was only 19 years old when he was murdered. He finally got his name after 38 years.

Rest in peace to William Joseph "Bill" Lewis (10/13/1963-11/1982)

Cowboy (1984)

Cowboy is the alias given to a man whose body hasn't been recovered, but his existence was revealed in a posthumous confession released by Larry's defense attorney with her late client's consent. According to Larry Eyler, this victim was murdered in Larry's apartment in Chicago Roger's Park neighborhood with the involvement of Robert Little, Larry's roomate and alleged accomplice. The murder was carried out in April 1984.

The claim was substantiated by contemporary records of an anonymous phone call made to emergency services concerning the discovery of a severed human hand in a garbage receptacle behind Larry's apartment in April 1984. The report was, however, not investigated at the time. In addition, Larry's lover, John Dobrovolskis, revealed to investigators that he had assisted Larry in clearing reddish-brown stains upon the ceiling and walls of Larry's apartment in April 1984. Little is known about this victim. He was allegedly a white teensge sex worker from Uptown Chicago, possibly a drifter. He now only exists as a missing person report. His severed hand and any other remains from those garbage bags are now buried in a sanitation landfill in southwest suburban Hillside.

Physical Description

• Sex: Male

• Race: White/Caucasian

• Age: 16-19 Years Old

Im happy for the three victims who got their names back but we have these other three who are still awaiting their names. The case of Cowboy (1984) is likely going to be impossible to solve I feel like. I do have hope for the other two unidentified men to get their names someday soon. Rest in peace to all the innocent men killed by Larry Eyler, a truly evil person.

Resolved Clayton County, GA John Doe (2024) is identified as Gerald Fletcher

From DNASolves.com: On February 3, 2024, "the [partial] skeletal remains of an unidentified individual were found in Jonesboro, a city in Clayton County, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. Two men were collecting deer stands near a creek in a rural part of the county when they found what they believed were human remains. The Clayton County Police Department responded and began collecting evidence and investigating. They collected the remains and a pair of black shorts and a pair of boxer underwear only. They determined the remains were an adult man, but few other details could be determined about the man, such as his approximate age.

Despite a lengthy investigation, the man could not be identified and became known as Clayton County John Doe (2024). Details of the case were entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as UP123477."

In 2025, investigators teamed with Othram to use genetic genealogy to identify the remains. Officials with the Clayton County Police Department submitted forensic evidence to Othram's laboratory in Texas. Othram scientists worked to develop a DNA extract from the provided skeletal remains to build a DNA profile of the man. Othram's in-house forensic genetic genealogy team then conducted research that resulted in new investigative leads about the man's identity.

"Using this new information, a follow-up investigation was conducted leading investigators to potential relatives of the man. Reference DNA samples were collected from a relative and compared to the DNA profile of the unidentified man. This investigation led to the positive identification of the man, who is now known to be Gerald Fletcher born on February 12, 1962."

Gerald Fletcher, a 60-year-old resident of Jonesboro, Georgia was last seen the morning of September 30, 2022. He was walking in red shorts, a pink shirt and black slides near his residence on Flint River Road in Jonesboro, GA. He was reported missing in December 2022; per a media report, he was said to be in the early stages of Alzheimer's and dementia.

RIP Gerald.

Point Reyes John Doe (2007)

Point Reyes John Doe

Date of Discovery: August 25, 2007
Location of Discovery: Point Reyes, Marin County, California
Estimated Date of Death: 3 days prior
State of Remains: Recognizable face
Cause of Death: Drowning; listed as possible suicide

Estimated Age: 40-57 years old
Race: White
Sex: Male
Height: 6'6" to 6'7"
Weight: 250 lbs.
Hair: Brown and gray, short and curly, with receding hairline. Clean shaven. Scant body hair.
Eye Color: Brown
Distinguishing Marks/Features: 4" vertical scar on right forearm. Uncircumcised. Previous appendectomy (accompanied by scar); hypertensive cardiovascular disease (high blood pressure).

Dentals: Available.
Fingerprints: Available.
DNA: Available.

Clothing: Black sleeveless T-shirt, over white tee with "Maui 98". Black spandex shorts. White Reebok tennis shoes, size 12. A red t-shirt with the Bordenave Bakery logo on front pocket was found washed ashore that may be related to the case.
Jewelry: Unknown.
Additional Personal Items: Blue and black First Gear backpack. Ankle and wrist weights like used for jogging.

The decedent was found floating in the surf of the ocean shoreline at Sculptured Beach. Dressed for jogging and found near a popular jogging trail. There was a backpack with a large rock (8lbs) in it recovered from the surf as well.

So, I did some research on the things that I could look through. Bordenave's French Bread Bakery (the only bakery I could find by this name) is located on 1512 4th St, San Rafael, California. This bakery is located about an hour and some change away from the spot where the decedent was located.

There isn't an image of the shirt found near the decedent. If the shirt is related to him, then it provides clues as to what his identity could be. The red shirt in the description, after some digging, is found to be most similar to the employee shirt. It's red with the Bordenave's Bakery logo on the pocket.

I'd also like to note that many people say he appears to be of European descent. Bordenave's bakery is a French bakery. Which, leads me to believe, that if he were to be European then somewhere around the area of France would be somewhere I'd look first. I am aware that immigrants tend to work in places that remind them of home.

That, or he potentially had a relative/friend who was an employee at Bordenave's bakery. Of course, this is all assuming the shirt that was found washed up was somehow related to him. If not, there are still a couple pointers we could use.

His height and weight alone are incredibly distinctive. He was very tall, standing at 6'7" (79in) and weighing in at 250lbs. However, that is an estimate. Someone like that is very distinctive, so if he was reported missing, the amount of reports to sift through is narrowed down significantly.

On NamUs, there are not many who fit this description. The one which lines up with his PMI the most is Brian Keith Talbert of Houston, who went missing on July 1st, 2007. However, I do not think this is the Doe. There is another missing person, Gustaf W Olson, who went missing on February 26th, 2005. The resemblance between the two is STRIKING. However, Olson's eyes are blue and the Doe's are brown. However, Olson matches everything else of the Doe. From height, down to the estimated weight and state of the hair (balding & partially gray).

(And also, just another thing, his name is of Scandinavian Origin. Gustaf Olson is a very uniquely Scandinavian sounding name, which lines up with the theories that our doe is European.)

Olson abandoned his vehicle on a beach parking lot in Cape Cod. I could be reaching here, but since the Doe was presumed to have taken his own life, I wouldn't be surprised if perhaps Olson was scoping the area, I suppose? Finding a suitable place for him to pass on. He went missing from Sandwich, Massachusetts, which is 47 hours from the location the Doe was found.

(Gustaf also has noticeable crow's feet. The ones depicted in the sketch of the Doe look very similar to the ones on his face. I could just be nitpicking here, though.)

It is entirely possible that this is NOT our Doe, considering that his vehicle was found abandoned. How Olson could have gotten there is a mystery, and a big enough discrepancy for me to shy away from submitting this. However, if you have anymore information on this doe, PLEASE share!

Remains found in northern Arizona in 2025 have been identified as William Anthony Ott, a Grand Canyon-area hiker who was reported missing in 2012

On April 5, 2012, Bill Ott set out on a three-week, solo through-hike of a remote area of the Hualapai Indian reservation at Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, according to Search and Rescue officials. The Oregon man was due back on April 28, but he hasn’t been seen since he was dropped off in the area.

He was reported missing when he was 12 days overdue, and he has not been seen or heard from since. He had a GPS with him but no cell phone. Multiple agencies conducted a search but found no sign of Ott.

In December 2025, members of the Hualapai Tribe reported that they discovered human remains in the general area that had been searched when Ott went missing. DNA testing recently conducted on the remains confirmed they belonged to Ott, the sheriff's office said.

RIP William.

New York City John Doe The Last Unidentified Gilgo Beach Victim: Who Was "Asian Doe"?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone. I recently released a documentary about Asian Doe, the last unidentified Gilgo Beach victim.
Asian Doe is believed to have been a young person of Southern Chinese ancestry who was found in women’s clothing and remains unidentified more than 15 years later. The film focuses on the victim’s identity, the investigation, and the barriers that may have prevented them from being recognized.

If this community has any interest, I’d be grateful if you gave it a watch. More importantly, if you have ideas, cultural insight, or know someone who might recognize the case, I’d love to hear from you.
Thank you for keeping the focus where it belongs: on giving this victim their name back.

What are the creepiest, most uncanny facial reconstructions?

Ones that make you feel really uneasy and then haunts you for minutes to hours.

Ones that I know of and I find really scary:

- Onondaga County John Doe (June 1976)

- Grays Harbor County Jane Doe (1988)

- Windy Point Jane Doe

- Jenny Gamez

And altho he is not an unidentified body, but a serial killer, but I feel like the original sketch of Derrick Todd Lee takes the cake.

While never entered into any system as a “Doe”, Jeffrey Allen Blake was identified. Little information has came out. Doesn’t look like he was ever reported to be missing but his remains were identified by the Smithsonian 12 years after their discovery. I hope that his case progresses and they can piece together what lead to his death.

EDIT:
He may have been listed as a Doe somewhere, but I was unable to find any other website other than this one.

Potential Match: Xuan Loc Hoang (Missing Jan 2020, CA) and UP92525 (Found May 2022, AZ)

I came across a potential match between a missing person and an unidentified body on NamUs/The Charley Project. I'd love to get your thoughts on this comparison before submitting a tip. Does Anyone Know Any Unidentified People Cases That Are Not Listed On NamUs?

Im looking for cases that do not have a NamUs profile. I know many of the older cases from a long time ago don't have a profile so please dont name them. I'm talking more so about the more about the more recent cases (1960/1970s-now). Are there any cases that do not have a NamUs profile that happened in more recent times.

Two examples:

Summit County John Doe (2024) )

Pulaski County John Doe (2023) )

Cassandra (1990)

On October 18, 1990, the badly decomposed remains of a woman whose possible name is "Cassandra" were found in a drainage ditch under a bridge in Houston, Texas. Medical examiners determined that the cause of her death was a blow to the head from a blunt object and that she had died about two or three weeks before being found. Her mandible was not recovered. She was later buried in Plot 1 B 44B at Harris County Cemetery #2.

In 2008, a man named Terrence Tyrone Johnson, who was already in prison for unrelated charges, allegedly confessed to her murder. However, it is unknown if his confession was credible, and he was never convicted of her killing. Investigators have long suspected she was local to Houston and that her name was Cassandra. She is currently undergoing testing by Othram.

Missing potential match info Tips on how to compare missing persons with unidentified individuals?

I’m really interested in at least trying to find potential matches for "Does" (unidentified persons).

The problem is that I’m not really getting anywhere. I’ve tried using Project Doe-Main, The Doe Network, and The Charley Project to compare individuals, but I never seem to come up with anything helpful.

Please feel free to share tips, things to keep in mind, and perhaps how you usually go about it yourselves

thanks in advance!😊

Why I still wonder if Patricia Otto is Finley Creek Jane Doe

On August 27th, 1978, two hunters at the Finley Creek Cow Camp near Elgin, Oregon, discovered something chilling: the skeletal remains of a teenager or young woman along with the remains of her 6-8 month old fetus were found in a shallow grave. No cause of death could be determined.

It appeared that she had been buried face down in the grave. Her remains were taken to Coffey's Funeral Home, where they were examined by Dr. Judy Buczek. identifying the remains as female, Jane was transported to Portland by a detective with the Oregon State Police. Before this, Lt. John Spilker of the OSP crime lab noted that smaller bones, perhaps those of an unborn baby, had been found with the remains. This was later confirmed by the pathologist.

It was estimated that Finley Creek Jane Doe possibly died sometime before 1975 or 1976; as animal activity had occurred at the gravesite, meaning some of the bones were animal-gnawed/entirely missing.

From 1978 to 1990, several tips and leads were followed up on; which included a ghost call to the OSP hotline that advised a pregnant woman by the name of Tina Bradford had been in the area around 1977. Other possible identities were put forward, including Tina, but nothing ever came of any of these leads.

In 1990, the case was considered closed. All evidence was ordered by the Union County DA to be destroyed. This included Jane’s body, as well as the body of her unborn child. The remains were sent to a Walla Walla, Washington crematorium to be cremated. Her and her child's cremains are now considered lost.

In the summer of 2019, a volunteer task force was formed. In 2020, the team consulted Redgrave Research to start a facial reconstruction for the Jane Doe based on photos of the skull that were provided to the team.

The group’s main goal is to locate the cremains of the Jane Doe and her baby so that they are returned to the Oregon State Medical Examiners Office for possible DNA extraction by DNA Labs International and Parabon in an effort to recover any useful DNA and repair the damage to them so they are able to be used for genealogy research.

On May 5, 2020, Dr. Nici Vance and the team members of the Finley Creek Jane Doe Task Force released the reconstruction of the Jane Doe.

In 2021, when a woman named Suzanne was scrolling through Facebook, she came across a sketch of an unidentified woman. The woman on the screen was staring back at her. Suzanne stated “I thought it was a joke, and someone drew a picture of me”. Suzanne dug deeper. There she found out that the sketch was of a Jane Doe found decades earlier. But the Jane Doe had no remains available.

Suzanne was told that Patty Otto, Suzanne’s mother, was ruled out as being Finley Creek Jane Doe. She was shocked to read the clothing description because red pants and a white blouse was what her mother was last believed to have been wearing when she disappeared in August of 1976. The last time Suzanne and her sister saw their mother, she was in a domestic dispute with their father. Suzanne states the last time she saw her mom, her father was putting his hands around her neck.

Patty was ruled out in 1978, when her parents came from Idaho with her dental records to Oregon. But there were seemingly wrong dentals on file for Patty. Looking into this further, the team quickly discovered there had to be a mistake with the dental records. The dentals the examiner compared Patty’s to were not that of Finley Creek Jane Doe but of another young woman who was found the same year, Portland Jane Doe. This Jane Doe was later identified as Annette Willis. Patty’s dental records showed erupted wisdom teeth but the file that ruled Patty out from Finley Creek Jane Doe had a description of “unerupted” wisdom teeth, which can only mean the ME compared someone else’s and not Patty’s.

Interestingly, the medical examiner at the time, Dr. William Brady, was fired because he was caught harvesting and selling parts of the human bodies that came into his lab. This obviously discredits his work integrity.

Suzanne keeps getting turned away with her concerns due to the 1978 rule out. There is no DNA to compare herself to as the remains of FCJD and her unborn child are gone.
