Tech Help Add book cover?

I have absolutely no clue where to put this! Have been looking for ages for where to request a cover to be added to a book so I’m throwing it in here in hopes of help!!
I’d like Die For a King by Scott Mariani to have a cover added to it. ISBN (ISBN-13 978-1399736909) has no cover either

Here is the best photo I can find:

Discussion At this point, I don’t trust Goodreads ratings anymore

**As a reader, do NOT trust Goodreads reviews**
I’ve been reading books for years and I’ve been using Goodreads for the past 3–4 years to keep track of the books I’ve read, want to read, my TBR and everything else. And I swear, the reviews on that app are NEVER accurate
I’ll see a book with a 3.2 rating and the reviews will be like *“this was boring, badly written, predictable, waste of time”* and then I’ll read it and it turns out to be an absolute masterpiece??? Like did we even read the same book???
And the worst part is when I see people giving genuinely amazing books one star and then their entire review is just them complaining about the most random thing 😭 Like someone will read an incredibly well-written, beautifully developed book and give it one star because they didn’t like one character or because the book didn’t go in the exact direction they wanted it to.
Meanwhile, some books with 4.5+ ratings have left me sitting there after finishing them like… **that was it?**
Obviously everyone has different tastes and opinions, but I genuinely feel like you cannot decide whether to read a book based solely on its Goodreads rating. Sometimes the book with the worst reviews becomes one of your favourite books ever, and sometimes the book everyone is worshipping does absolutely nothing for you.
At this point, I still check Goodreads for ratings and reviews, but I refuse to let them decide whether I’ll read a book or not.

Tech Help Export list missing average rating

I recently ran the export list to try and better prioritize some books and I noticed the average rating column data is missing?! Is there a different way to retrieve that information?

Discussion New account with pen name

For those of you that use multiple names do you have multiple accounts? I have one under my other name, but have been thinking about making a new one for this pen name. Have you run into any problems and is this even possible?

Discussion This is a new one. One "author" has 94 books listed. All notebooks. Blank ones.

While looking for another book, I found this oddly named one, so I checked it out.

Notebook : Nick Carter Notebook 100 Pages Lined Pages Journal For Home, Work , Students and Teens #539

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/100871117

All 94 of them have the same summary:

If you need a notebook to write your thoughts, you are in the right place. This unique notebook will serve a multitude of journal for diary or composition book for home school, college notebook, college composition notebook, back to school and for work to take daily notes, creative writing, jot down ideas, capturing ideas, grocery lists, recipes to-do lists. The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame. Blank Notebooks Are Naessar Makes a great Kellyjaminzyltmas, Birthday, Graduation or Beginning of the school year gift. Hope you enKelly it :)

That "author" has 94 more blank notebooks listed, presumably for sale. Or something. They're all just blank notebooks with different covers.

I reported the account. As weird and amusing as this is, I hope Goodreads takes them down soon.

Huh. In the time it took me to write this post, Goodreads seems to have rejected my report. I clearly stated the author is spamming, trying to sell notebooks, but GR said:

we do not offer account support via this channel. Please contact us using this form (https://www.goodreads.com/about/contact_us) and we'll be happy to help.

That's not something they stick at the end of all responses to reports, is it?

Discussion Why are goodreads reviews always mean

Hi All!

Just making a post on here to see if anyone feels the same way. I most often turn to Goodreads when I want to see what the majority of people feel about a book I'm contemplating reading, or a book that I have really enjoyed reading. Recently, I have noticed that the main comments I see when I scroll down Goodreads annihilate the book, saying that the author is terrible and that the storyline is awful / written badly, even if it has been rated overall quite highly. I obviously understand that books are subjective, and not everyone is going to love the same books that I do, but it really seems like people on Goodreads are trying to be controversial?? The first comments I see are always so mean, and I know that I can filter the responses to see what the 4-star and 5-star people think; I just find the nastiness in some reviews to be literally insane.

Discussion Login required to read reviews?!

Just noticed an unwelcome change: Goodreads seems to be requiring you be logged in to read a person's review. Like mine here. This seems like a recent change: here's a thread five months ago about it.

This may be the final straw that gets me off Goodreads, or at least has me set up my own blog for my reviews. I've been giving Amazon my handwritten reviews in exchange for them giving me a place to easily share that content with friends. Now I can't.

Tech Help My Books Section Issue

Hi all.

As the title suggests, I am having issues with the "my books" section.

For some reason, while on web browser, my books are displaying like directly below the links on the left side, and with huge gaps between the cover and the other fields displayed.

I have cleared my cookies and cache, tried using a different browser, and signed out and signed back in again, and nothing has fixed it.

This doesn't seem to be an issue on mobile, only on a web browser.

Is anyone else having this issue? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Thanks.

Edit: the issue also seems to be preventing me from ranking books on my 'Want to Read' list too.

Edit 2: I have now contacted Goodreads Support. They said they are aware of the issue, and have added my report to a developer ticket they have open about this issue.

Tech Help Not Showing Qualifying Booms

Working on the summer challenges and trying to make sure I have all the qualifying books on my want to read list. However, I can no longer view the list of books. I click on the button but it doesn't work. I have tried unstalling the app and signing in and out of my account. Still no dice. I did save some so I'm reading what I got and hope I still get the bookmark for whatever challenge it's from - no clue due to the glitch. Anyone else having the same issue?

Discussion Does goodreads team not do anything about false/self-promotion reviews in other books?

I've seen many reviewers on Goodreads doing self-promotion on other books or even posting wrong book reviews ( or copy-pasting the same review) with their product/book links in reviews.

I don't know if they even read these books, as all the reviews are the same or wrong in some cases, like this book review. False Review

Tech Help Shelving different editions of a book with different statuses

Hello, not sure I flared this post correctly, apologies in advance.

I recently ran into a problem when shelving versions of one book in different languages/translations. If I want to read the book in the original language and start reading it, it automatically syncs across all my other editions and I can't have separate book statuses.

I find it to be very frustrating and I googled but found nothing that could solve the issue. Is there a way to get around the automatic sync?

I tried switching editions and even removing and adding back to my shelves, still no progress.

Tech Help "My Books Search" does not appear to be working

I'm using Windows 10 and Chrome. I have turned off all extensions, cleared the cache and cookies, and I still am unable to search the books in my collection. The box doesn't clear my entry when I click the search icon, it simply reloads all my books in the same order.

Frustrating. Anybody have an idea?

Tech Help On getting editions added for old books you own

A lot of the book editions I own are older (40+ years old) and those editions are often not on Goodreads. To get these editions added, I have frequently had help from a specific librarian I have a relationship with, so I don't have to wait for half a year while my request languishes in the queue. However I'm trying to be more conscious of his time, so I'm going through the traditional route via the Librarians group right now to get some things added.

One thing I'm noticing is that telling the librarians that the info I'm providing comes from my own copy of the book – that I own – is not enough. And since these are old editions that are often not listed on Amazon or other book webstores, they're asking me to upload pictures of publication pages and other bits of "proof" to get the edition added.

Librarians have even seemed skeptical about using my own scans that I've taken of book covers when I wanted to upload a clearer photo (a lot of older covers on Goodreads are blurry, heavily pixelized or tiny). Even if a cover is clearly and literally the exact same as an existing one, just in a larger/clearer version, they demand photos of the publication page which must match the existing edition info. If the existing edition's info is incomplete, and therefore there is not match, they tell me they will not replace the photo, and I have to put in a request to add a whole new edition for it, which of course takes months.

These are not things I experienced with the librarian I work with. Is the above process normal? Is Goodreads really this stringent and byzantine with their cataloguing processes? I wish it were easier to become a librarian myself so I could just add whatever missing editions/photos I come across when logging my collection, and not have to bother other people, but alas...
