It's FOSS reached out and featured the extension as their Linux App of the Week, genuinely didn't see that coming. It started as a solo project to bring back the Computer panel Nautilus dropped, and has grown into something built with real community input: 11 contributors, 12 languages translated by native speakers, active PRs, and a public beta of Miller View (Finder-style column navigation) that people have been asking about for a while.

Wanted to use this post to also thank everyone who's opened issues, sent PRs, translated, tested betas, or just left feedback along the way. This really is community-driven at this point 💙.

A couple weeks ago I posted my first GNOME extension here, Better Tray Icons. The response was way bigger than I expected, and a lot of you took the time to report bugs, request features and dig into weird edge cases with me.

So I did a big refactor based on all of that. v3.0.0 is out now: performance is much better, several long-standing bugs are gone, and there are some new features and visual improvements on top. It should be in a far more mature state than what I posted weeks ago.

Heads up: since the core logic got reworked, there may be some breaking changes. If you're updating from 2.4.0, I'd recommend resetting all settings under General after the update.

Thanks to everyone who tested it and reported things, this wouldn't have happened without you.

THIS IS A BIG BIG DEAL.

Saw this from It's FOSS:

For six years, one person has been manually tracking every security vulnerability reported to GNOME. That person is leaving.

Michael Catanzaro has been GNOME's sole security coordinator since November 2020. No team. No automated system. Just one person triaging every report that comes in.

He's stepping down by December 2026.

And it gets more complicated. AI-generated vulnerability reports are now flooding his tracker. Low-quality, algorithmically-written submissions that look real enough to take seriously but rarely lead anywhere.

So before he leaves, he's changing the rules. Starting August 1, the coordinated disclosure window drops from 90 days to 30. AI-suspected reports will be closed without forwarding to maintainers.

Here's the part that surprised me: GNOME still tracks all of this on a wiki page. Not a proper bug tracker. Not searchable notices like Ubuntu or Fedora use. A wiki.

One person, a wiki, and a deadline shrinking by two-thirds.

I was changing my wallpaper and suddenly the entire theme changed, adding these white outlines to everything. I checked gnome tweaks and everything is set to default.

A friend told me it gives off geogebra vibes. I'll take it lol

How can I set up a software virtual display on GNOME Wayland for Sunshine streaming?

I want to stream to a handheld device and completely power off my physical monitor while keeping the stream active. I want to achieve this purely through software, without relying on a hardware HDMI/DP dummy plug.

My specs: CachyOS, GNOME Wayland, AMD RX 9070 XT.

Considering this is gnome, I wont be surprised if the expected method is to open each one and manually hit print. I am hoping that i am wrong though. I can't find any info on multi file prints.

I've been using Onedriver on Ubuntu for about 3 years, but something happened with Ubuntu 26.04. The icon isn't showing up in this version of Ubuntu—does anyone have any updates?

A few months ago I shared the first version of OpenEmux here, and I received some really helpful feedback from the GNOME community.

One of the biggest suggestions was to make the app feel more native by following Libadwaita and the GNOME HIG. Since then, I've spent a lot of time refining the interface, and OpenEmux is now built with GTK4 + Libadwaita, aiming to provide a native GNOME experience while staying simple and clean.

I've just released v1.5.2, which also brings several improvements to the game library, artwork handling, and the overall user experience.

If you'd like to take a look, I'd really appreciate any feedback or suggestions!

Hi,

I love Linux and FOSS in general. And I'm totally grateful to all developers, all dev communities.

But flatpak appears to my eyes as a suspicious activity, so to speak.

What makes me say this is that I did a google search, and among the matches, there was one:

"The future of apps on Linux — Flatpak"

This sounds quite a declaration.
What makes it alerting, in my opinion, is that who says this
is the Flatpak website.

This is the website's title. that is, their slogan.

What would seem normal, instead?

If the various linux distros declared that they endorse flatpak as a convenient packaging, distribution "format" (?) ...
and intend to cast it a more prominent role in the future...

I mean, if it wasn't about predominance...
and it wasn't the Flatpak website saying it.

What seems to be the happening is a rapid and fierce evolution...

With Gnome, a desktop environment... taking the leadership... What is Cinnamon then? A DE DE? A Gnome Desktop Environment?

Also, with Flatpak, a packaging system(?), rising to monopoly within Gnome...

And that the scene is simplifying to KDE and Gnome, with Qt and GTK, respectively...

I'd feel so much better if Gnome's app building app, the Gnome Builder...

Either supported making debian (deb) packages, along with others, like rpm....

Or declared what today only Flatpak declares, that the future is Flatpak — only.
and that they accept the future, follow it, and don't want to shape it for the better...

I was wondering if anybody has experienced this bug before and found a fix for it:

• Sometimes a window will randomly get the "Always on visible workspace" setting switched on and there's no way for me to disable it (Alt+Space then clicking on "Always on visible workspace" doesn't untick the setting)

I am running:

• Fedora 44
• Gnome 50.3 on Wayland

If you found the reason why this happens or a fix for it, thanks for your help!

I replaced DashtoDock with [Dash to Panel](https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1160/dash-to-panel/) after having problems with the auto-hide option. To my surprise, DashtoPanel worked perfectly configured with the dock in GNOME 50. Below I will share my configuration; if anyone wants to use it, just download and import it directly from the app:

Is it normal that I have to use the "Unblank Lock Screen" extension to do something that should work natively?

Why did GNOME 47/48 decide to make the lock screen so aggressive when it comes to power saving: as soon as you lock it (Super+L), it immediately activates DPMS, which turns off or dims the display??

I choose Debian 13 stable so that everything works properly; otherwise, I'd use Arch or Fedora.

Hey everyone! I recently made the switch from macOS to Linux, specifically running Fedora with GNOME on Wayland. I'm absolutely loving how smooth and responsive the system feels!

However, I’ve bumped into a few papercuts regarding UI customization:

• Theming Inconsistencies: Some apps respect custom titlebar buttons while others don't (classic CSD vs. SSD mismatch).
• Window Corners: A few applications completely lose their border radius and look sharp/broken.
• Tiling Bug: When using the Forge extension, pasting text into OpenCode CLI triggers an unwanted layout re-tile.

I’ve been hotfixing these myself by modifying the extension's source code directly, but that feels like a band-aid solution. I’d love to hear your favorite tips, tricks, or extension recommendations to get a cleaner, more cohesive desktop experience — as well as any tweaks to optimize Fedora for web/app development(Zed Editor + Opencode CLI + Antigravity CLI).
