Hi everyone! I'm considering applying to George Mason's M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and was hoping to hear from current students or previous graduates.
I've already read through the website and will be meeting with an advisor next month, so I'm less interested in things like the curriculum or admissions requirements and more interested in student experience.
Is it realistic to keep working part-time (or full-time) while in the program? I'm navigating a layoff and building a small consulting business and would ideally like to continue doing that while in school. I'm several years out of undergrad so I can't stop working to go back to school.
I'm also wondering how stressful finding a practicum/internship is. Did anyone feel like the program helped them through that process?
Has anyone used the degree in a way that's a little less "traditional? Like combining counseling with community work, consulting, writing, advocacy, or something else?
Aaaand finally... looking back, is there anything you wish someone had told you before you started?
I live in Arlington and am still figuring out which programs in the DMV are the best fit so any student/alumni experience would be so helpful.
