Without using classic or typical techniques like active recall or flashcards. In my field of study, what’s valued most—to the tune of about 95%—is photographic or rote memory. Sometimes that’s all it takes just to pass, so I’d like to know how that’s possible. People here always say it’s because you didn’t concentrate or didn’t spend enough time reading.

I’m 20 years old and from Belgium. I just finished my first year studying accounting, and during my studies I also started working as a student at an accounting firm to get some real experience in the field.

The confusing part is that I really enjoy learning about accounting, finance, economics, and how businesses work. I like understanding the concepts, solving problems, and learning how everything connects. However, while working at the accounting firm, I noticed that I don’t enjoy the actual day-to-day work as much as I enjoy studying the subject.

I’m not sure if it’s because I’m still a beginner and need more experience, or if the typical accounting career path simply doesn’t match my personality. I like learning, explaining things to others, teaching, and constantly discovering new topics more than doing repetitive tasks every day.

At the same time, I have a lot of different interests:

• Finance, economics, investing, and accounting
• Teaching and education
• Archaeology and history
• Psychology and understanding human behavior
• Technology, IT, programming, and everything related to computers

My problem is that I feel interested in too many areas and I don’t know where to focus. I’m worried about choosing one direction and later regretting not exploring something else.

For people who have been in a similar situation:

• How did you choose a career when you had many different interests?
• Is it possible to combine fields like finance + IT, psychology + business, or teaching + another career?
• Should I continue with accounting because I enjoy the knowledge behind it, even if I’m unsure about the job itself?
• Are there careers where being curious about many different subjects is actually an advantage?

I would especially appreciate advice from people in Belgium or Europe, because education and career paths can be quite different here.

At one of the jobs I have now, I can use my phone when it is slow so I would review flashcards. I genuinely liked knocking two birds out with one stone.

Now though, I have a job that is more strict with electronic usage. Are there any discreet, passive ways to study that don't involve a screen?

I don't mean sitting down and actually studying. I mean randomly throughout the day.
When you're washing dishes, in the shower, driving, walking, whatever. Just take a 30 second to 2 minute "commercial break."
Ask yourself:
What did we go over in class today?
What was on that study guide I just made?
What acronym did we learn?
No notes. No flashcards. Just try to recall it from memory.
I've noticed that when I'm doomscrolling and want a break, I'll randomly think about my notes for a minute or two. I swear it sticks so much better than when I'm actually sitting down trying to memorize everything.
I think there's a huge difference between memorizing something for one study session and constantly recalling it throughout the day. That spaced repetition is what actually makes it stick. And like I said, it doesn't have to be long. Even 30 seconds helps.
The act of trying to recall the information is what helps you retain it. You can do it anywhere, anytime. Don't force yourself to do it for long. Just do it for as long as you're curious.
During finals I had to study my ass off to pass. Instead of only sitting down with my notes, I kept doing these little recall breaks throughout the day.
I ended up getting a 96%!

i (15F) am a great student to have! im always quiet, i participate, i do all the work, do the homework etc. BUT when it comes to exams of any sort thats when im done for. i have no idea how to study at all! i have the motivation to do it, i just dont know how. the read and write what u remember didnt work for me. pleaseplease help! any methods that helped you for specific subjects? and at the moment im about a month behind in school..

So everybody just recommends that when talking about memorising stuff in our long term memory. But I really need to hear this from someone who had tried it. It is basically about revising the information in a process that takes about two weeks. But how can I do that with the amount of information I have to get into my brain. I mean, I can't just keep revising on one topic for about two weeks and do that with every other topic. I just don't have enough time for that. I have 6 subjects and I need to provide time for each.

So if someone actually tried it and worked for them with a crammed schedule please share how you do it and if it's really worth the effort.

i had my exam today where i had good 5 days for it and i studied and also the night before my exams i pulled an all nighter because i felt like i have to revise and finish it faster.

i did stay awake, chugged 3 cups of coffee worked like a bull but during exam time, i forgot everything. i barely remembered anything in exam. i even did the revision whole night, i am traumatized by todays exam.

also i shouldn’t have stayed all night but i also had to revise and i couldn’t afford failing but idk even after all that i don’t think i did any good. i don’t think i will pass it. i am so scared!!

also i have another exams after 4days and i need serious advice on how should i study so that it will be productive. i dont want to repeat my mistakes again.

I am 21F and I am from Assam, I got admission in EFLU Hyd and the only thing left is the counselling session. So the thing is I really wanna study there and my family is against it, they are stopping me saying that it's so far and not so safe, the outside world is different and you're a girl you should study somewhere near so that we can go and bring you if you get sick or whatever.

I get the concern but until when? How long am I gonna stay here just because of the fear that something might happen?

I have a realllyyy terrible habit of procrastinating. I know I have to study rlly bad bcs my exams are literally tomorrow until august (Its 3 weeks of exam with different subjects each day) but its rlly hard for me to stop doomscrolling :(

When I actually sit down and try to get information in my head, its hella difficult for me to focus especially with ZERO motivation. I cant focus more than 30 minutes and then I js zone out even when I lock all my social medias. And I think this is the main problem when Im studying 🫠. So much time wasted staring at the wall rather than actually absorbing all the information from my textbook. I do regret not studying much because I feel super unprepared.

Right now, Im js trying my best to prepare for my exam tomorrow. Please wish me luck to those who read this! And please give me any advices no mather how unhinged it is 🥹

How to self study efficiently

I have been struggling for self studying with discipline. My mind keep distracting me with the most trivial concepts possibles. Even if i focus i can't maintain persistence after 1-1:30 hrs

Few details i have noticed;

1) just watching lecture, making notes for the purpose of notes - Habbit i can't get rid of

2) never re reading it again until the exam are on head - only work efficiently under pressure

3) overthinking most trivial concept randomly over and over again for very large period of time

4) even though i know i need to distrubute my time for revision as well but i just keep on reading new stuffs - constant fear of lacking behind

Hi all. I've horrendously struggled to learn or be productive in bright, friendly environments, which puts the library or most "study spaces" out of commission for me. Last year, I developed this new "tactic" (I guess) where I hole up in my dorm and make the room as dark as possible, put on noise-cancelling headphones that blasts horror soundtracks from movies/games, and get immersed in this atmospheric fear so that I could do everything I need to do with the motivation of a blissful life waiting for me or I get eaten by the creatures. If I really need more motivation, I pull up a split-screen photo of Momo or some other scary photo, so I don't look away from my assignment. So far it's worked. It makes me scared shitless, but I've passed all my classes with A's!

I'm just curious about the more unconventional but effective methods some of you guys use! Looking to branch out in study methods so my new roommate doesn't hit me over the head with a broom for making the room a batcave. And also, I love experimentation and would love to hear what uncommon styles have been used.

I have exams in October, it might even change my life ( stable job). ( note: 2 year relationship)
