Shitpost Academic Withdrawal & Reset

I hate that everyone just throws around an Academic Reset whenever someone makes a post about them being withdrawn. The amount of misinformation annoys me so much.

I understand, mostly 99% of people are doing it in good faith, however as someone who went through this exact scenario, and was withdrawn from my faculty, I HATE how ppl will just comment under every advice post that they should try for a reset. It gives false hope, while it literally wouldn’t work in there scenario. A reset is only for degree students, and is primarily accepted if someone is looking to switch into a new degree.

If someone is in there grace period, than fine, a reset to switch faculties is fine, but it literally states you can’t reverse a withdrawal with a reset. Obviously, the first thing everyone should do is speak to an advisor the second there withdrawn, while also taking a deep look at themselves and question whether university at this moment or at all is cut out for them. I’m not discouraging resets, but people need to stop saying it under every post when it literally will be rejected 99.99% of times for these people.

If someone is in bad standings and isn’t withdrawn, please encourage them to push for a reset. But please don’t give false hope and misinformation to people already struggling with the weight of the situation. They don’t need that. Just be real with them while being kind. Tell them to speak to an advisor first and foremost and look into appealing the decision. Not a reset PLZ.

Question about Welcome Week

Upvotes

I was looking at the Welcome Week schedule on the uni website, and I’m a bit confused.

Is Welcome Week different from 101 Week? I noticed some Welcome Week events say they’re open to “all students.” Does that mean all uOttawa students, or just all new students?

Anyone in UOttawa French JD, how's the first year of law school like? Is the workload manageable and is the learning content difficult? Also, how is the social and learning environment?

Bio 1150 and Bio 1141

Hello!!

I’m an incoming first year Health Science student, and I’m trying to build the most even schedule as possible. Right now I have both Bio 1141 and Chm 1311 in the same semester as the course sequence suggests (and what I believe is over all a very heavy sem). However I am debating switch the Bio 1141 to first semester and taking Bio 1150. I believe Bio 1150 is a new course and it’s just a lab course, no lectures. The only thing I am worried about is not knowing the core foundations from the bio 1141 lecture and how to apply it to the lab course. Bio 4u is a prerequisite, so I am technically able to take it first semester? I’m just looking for some advice! Thank you!!

Request for Help Is it possible to have excess electives?

I’m only allowed 4 electives in my programs admission year, 2 in winter term first year and 2 others in winter term second year. However, I will be taking more than 4 electives by the time I get to second years winter term…will anything happen or will I be punished for taking more than 4 electives? Especially if I take some in the summer to boost my gpa?

Request for Help uOttawa Admission conditions

Earlier in the year I have applied for the undergraduate Biomedical Science program in French from Quebec secondary school and got accepted conditionally, despite my average in my prerequisite courses in mathematics and science being below 84%. Ever since I got my student card and payed my tuition for MAT1739 make-up course, and I am about to send my final transcript. My average grade in all prerequisites is 87%, but is 82.3% in mathematics and science. Is there another way they calculate the average in case my calculations are wrong or do I face a risk of getting rejected despite barely not having the 84% requirement?

Has anyone else left from Toronto to Ottawa?

As the title says above, has anyone left Toronto for Ottawa in their 20s?

I’m struggling with this decision as I was given a job offer there. I’m scared to leave friends and family and move to a new city. A part of me feels like I will regret it.

Has anyone else done the same? I’d love to hear about your experience.

Is BIO 1131 the same as BIO 1130??

Heyyy so I was just wondering, I'm a first year biochem student so I'm starting this fall and I just wanted to know if BIO 1131 was different from 1130? Like why did they change it, is it the same component or is it a completely different course. The reason I'm asking is because I wanna start revising my courses during summer with yt and other apps 🥲cause I really wanna be prepared and I low-key enjoy learning stuff during the summer. So I was just wondering if they were pretty much the same cause I can't really find any thing on BIO 1131 since it's a new course. Could anyone please enlighten me?

Annex room E general size?

Hey! I am moving into Annex in September and my portal says i'm in Room E in a 5 person apartment. I want to get a good idea of how much additional space there is inside the room? I was hoping to bring one of those roll-y clothing racks with me (30" x 17") and trying to figure out if that would fit!

Thanks in advance!

can anyone explain the benefits of purchasing a locker? (faculty of law)

like i understand obviously when comparing to the usage of lockers in high school but i'm wondering if it's truly worth it; i'm just imagining carrying a laptop and water bottle without the bag? but of course you can leave your textbooks which would break your back the whole day 😭

Admissions Non-Degree as an eng student

I just finished my first year at UOttawa in Mechanical Engineering and Computing Technology however I was withdrawn from my faculty. I plan on doing academic reset or Non degree. Which is more suitable given that school is going to start soon. And what is the processes for being a non degree student and how does readmission work?
