I might be being picky but..

I’ve been so so excited for the z flip 8, BUT there’s a couple physical (yet small) details I’m not fond of..

  1. It didn’t need to be thinner, straight up. It’s already hard to get nice cases that fit well

  2. The gap seems bigger between the screens when closed? I liked that they eliminated that with the 7.

  3. The little hinge cap bumper part seems to protrude more on the 8. I’ve seen a few people lose those already so wouldn’t that make it worse? Aside from the fact that it feels weird when I’m trying to use the device and accidentally brush my finger over it. Now it’ll be more obvious

  4. I’m annoyed that the mint green is once again Samsung exclusive- meaning I won’t be able to get it with my phone carrier with my plan

Discussion 💬 It's not looking good for ZFlip

Honestly after today's presentation it really seems like the rumors of them getting rid of the Z Flip line are most likely true unfortunately. Every mention of the Z Flip 8 seems like a footnote in comparison to the way they announced the Fold 8 and Fold 8 "Ultra". Not to mention how the Z Flip 8 got basically NONE of the new technology in either the Fold 8 or the Ultra and is $100 MORE than the 7 for very minimal improvements. I really love the Z Flip (Z Flip 7 currently), and if they get rid of the Z Flip then A LOT of people are gonna be pissed off at samsung because of that. We'll have to see how things go though, I'm cautiously optimistic about the future.

Discussion 💬 How many of you are trading in your flip for the Fold 8?

I'll be trading in my Flip 7, that I traded my Flip 5 in for before that. Just want to try something new after realizing I don't actually utilize the cover screen for anything other than the camera preview.

Why I got the Z Flip 8

I currently have the S23 Ultra and realized I don't really need the camera or the stylus feature after having the phone for 3 years. The camera was great at first, but my wife always gets the new iPhone models every other year, so we just use that camera instead. The battery was also having issues and I was having to charge the phone repeatedly every day. For me, it was a matter of the S26+ or the Z Flip 8.

I chose the Z Flip 8 because I wanted something different. If it turns out I don't like it, I can trade it in for the S27+ that comes out in 7 months so I'm not locked into this phone. I can live with the downgrade, if I end up living the phone then that's fine with me. I like the novelty of it.

Total price was $873 for the 256GB model after trade in. Some will say that's not a good deal. That I paid to much for a gimmick.

Everyone has an opinion, but what matters to me is my happiness. I'm happy and excited. I feel like that's enough. I don't need to keep up with my friends or the people around me.

Z flip 8

Why is it 800 dollars this year wth. I went from the 5 to the 6 to the 7 and it went from 300 to 500 to 800. Like wth. That's ridiculous. It's not even worth it to trade in anymore. I'm not really saving much money and I didn't even get my reserve credit in my email. I signed up 500 times

Question ❓ On the Fence About Keeping my Flip7

I have always had iPhone but ever since the z flip7 came out I have been obsessed. I think it is so cute and fun and I wanted a good reason to get away from apple. I bought the flip7 from backmarket at a reasonable price for brand new. They have a 30 day return policy where you can return it for any reason even just changing your mind.

The first couple weeks were rough as far as learning how to use the samsung/android os. Most of my frustrations came from my iPhone knowing my usage and making accurate predictions or making entering my info and passwords so easy. Other issues have been minimal but seem to be enough to bother me daily. It's a bit slower than my iPhone and how I expect any other latest samsung phone would perform. Obviously the camera is not as good as iPhone but it's not so bad that I care really. The touch response is not as quick as iPhone and tends to be innacurate.

One of the bigger issues I've been struggling with has also been the keyboard, I just can't find one I like. I also love the larger sized iPhone and the flip is noticeably skinnier which I didn't think would bother me as much as it does. Now I do love the novelty of the flip, I enjoy the customization of samsung, and it has in fact kept my screen time down. I enjoy using the cover screen and use it quite often and love how compact it is, fitting so nicely in my pockets or purse.

This week is when the 30 days I up and I need to decide if I want to keep the flip7 or return it and try something or go back to apple. I don't necessarily want to go back to apple but I will if that's just what works for me. If I return the flip7 I think I would like to then try the galaxy s25 ultra or the s26 ultra. I know it would perform better/faster and the wider screen would feel more of what I'm used to. However I would definitely miss the flip and I'm not even sure that the samsung os isnt the root problem and the struggle wouldn't make the ultra worth it.

Help me decide please! :( Thank you!

News 🗞️ The Flip8 Finally Improves the Cover Screen App Drawer

The Galaxy Z Flip8 seems to bring some meaningful improvements to the cover screen app drawer.

It no longer depends on Good Lock, and Samsung has finally added a proper Recent Apps button.

Honestly, I really hope Samsung brings these improvements to the Flip5, Flip6, and Flip7 too.

And if they don’t… well, 9 Flip will do its best to bring you a similar experience.

Making the switch

Upvotes

Switching to the new z flip 8 from a galaxy s22. I am super excited but nervous at the same time. Anyone have positive stories of switching? I am a little bit worried about the phone having more issues because of the flipping feature ect. I wanted this phone to help reduce my screen time.

Other 🤷 My experience with zflip

Upvotes

Nightmare.
I bought a new zflip 5 3 years ago. First month, it was great. I loved the phone so much, enjoyed its flipping mechanics and also take good care of it.
Then 2nd month, suddenly, out of no where, no drops, with proper case, there is a green line at the hinge. I remembered feeling super devastated, and bring back to the shop for warranty.
Then, they told me it’s because I mishandled the phone. According to the technician, it’s because I flip the phone and placed it in my bag. And I wasn’t suppose to put the flip phone in my bag. Ridiculous.

Fast forward, I escalated the case to small court and won the repairing fee from them. Wasting 2 months. After the repair, I spend 1.5 years not placing the phone in bag, just holding it everywhere. And lastly, green lines appear again at the hinge. I switched to IPhone.

I previously had great experience with Samsung phones, but after this, I changed to Apple. At least, I won’t have to worry about green lines and unable to place phone in my bag.

Question ❓ Flip users - do you actually record less screentime now?

Have a fold 7, usually upgrade annually (generous corporate discounts). This year I want to make a push into reducing social media usage and focus on removing distractions. Hence why I'm considering the flip series, and reviewers always mention how the act of unfolding provides a real barrier to usage.

My question: do you use your phone less? Do you use social media less than when you had a normal slab phone? Is this a legitimate selling point or are reviewers going off of first impressions mostly?

Other 🤷 I lucked out

I thought dabbling into flip phones as a work phone would be cool, so I bought a Razr 2023+ back in April to use as a work phone. Only paid $150 for it on eBay.

I main a Z Fold 7, so I watched the Unpacked today to see what new things were being released. As I has guessed, it was going to be an iterative upgrade for the Fold series, with the exception of the new wide Fold. Didn't see the need to upgrade, but the wife was interested since she wants something different to her S25U.

Looking at the trade-in prices, I wasn't too impressed with Samsung. But T-Mobile had a promo that a S25U would be a $1,100 trade-in, and so would the Razr 2023+ for the Z Flip 8. I couldn't pass up on that deal, so I caved in! Now I'm on the preorder train with those if y'all getting the Flip 8.

What deals have y'all found?

Z Flip getting native Recents and 3-button navigation? We might not need custom cover launcher apps anymore.

OneUI 9 for Flip7 - Will Cover Screen Changes Be Kept Exclusive?

How much of the OneUI 9 cover screen improvements will make it to the Flip7? I'd dare ask also how much will make it to the Flip 5-6 and honestly the Flip7 FE that was only available as of last year. Or will we have to keep using GoodLock and other apps?

I have owned Flips 4-7, and this is the first year the math and the product itself aren't compelling to preorder.

Discussion 💬 Should I?

Currently using S23Ultra, before this i was using Z FLIP 4. Decided to change because of how much the maintenance cause if something was broken. Now, should i change to Z FLIP 8? or should i choose S26+? I realise i have no use for the pen except for playing some games. I rarely use pen on notes too. So i dont want to go ultra. Any opinion?

Question ❓ Apple user interested in switching to new Flip 8

Hi, I’ve been using exclusively Apple products for 18 years, and I currently own almost the entire ecosystem: iPhone 13 mini, iPad mini, iPad Pro 12.9, Apple Watch S10, Macbook Air M4 and Airpods 4.

I was waiting for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro since my mini is dying and I charge it 3-4 times a day even with low power mode. I saw the new pink Flip 8 and it’s so cute I might pull the trigger and switch, I’m just curious whether it would be way too inconvenient considering I’ve been an Apple user for so long.

I’m not looking for the other Fold options since they’re way too expensive, I’m Italian so the prices are already higher compared to the US.

Do you like your Z Flip? Would you recommend it? Should I be looking out for any problems regarding the device, battery, and whatnot?

Zflip5 mod rom fold 5. There is Samsung Dex 120Hz. I actually modified the Fold 5 ROM on my ZFlip 5 device. It works normally, I even modified Samsung Dex to 4k100Hz.(It can even reach 120Hz if the device receives the full refresh rate. ).

trade in

Question ❓ Worth moving from Galaxy S22 to Flip 8?

So I have my S22 (had it for 4+ years) that I know I'll want to upgrade by early next year. Curious to know if it's worth upgrading to Flip 8 from the S22. I mostly use the phone for picture/video and basic usage (surfing the web, watch YouTube, text/call). I don't do any gaming or any intensive stuff on my phone.
