Megathread [MONTHLY MEGATHREAD] General Discussion, Simple Questions, Recommendations, and Everything Else - July 2026

MONTHLY MEGATHREAD

Welcome to our regular pinned Megathread!

While many topics are allowed as standalone submissions, others that tend to be lower-effort, less notable, or easily answered belong in this thread instead. These include simple questions such as those related to receiving game assistance, game recommendation requests or help finding a specific game, and other general discussions that don't warrant a dedicated thread or aren't directly related to gacha gaming (provided they are not Banned Content).

Some specific examples of what these megathreads should be used for include:

  • Help remembering an old gacha game, or finding a new one to start playing
  • Recommendations for the best emulator to use on your device
  • Receiving updates on how ongoing games are doing from current players (“How is [game] doing these days?”)
  • Learning what people’s favorite games or types of games are, as well as how others feel about a particular game feature, event, monetization strategy, etc. in specific games
  • Getting clarification on what confusing or game-specific abbreviations mean
  • Finding where people learn about games or like to get their news and information from
  • Discovering new content creators that other players watch or recommend
  • Asking for any sort of general advice relating to gacha games at all
  • Discussing other topics that are only indirectly related to gacha, such as subreddit meta (select exceptions may be allowed as standalone submissions) or industry happenings

Generally, anything asking a question or requiring the opinions of others belongs here. We have many veteran Summoners who are happy to share their opinions and answers, or discuss the topics you may be interested in!

If you want to contribute, please first read the request or question thoroughly, before making sure not to recommend something already tried or provide the same advice as a previous comment left in response. Please also reply as neutrally as possible, without bashing games or arguing with others in the community– this is not about winning or losing, but sharing useful information that helps out another member. Replies should include the full names of anything mentioned, as new Summoners may not know what “GI”, “FGO”, or even “F2P” means. Even if they do, it's still helpful so that the results are easily searchable and others who aren't the OP can better follow along.

As a general reminder, both Reddiquette and all of our Subreddit Rules still apply here. Make sure to keep things respectful! Religious or political topics, sharing personal information, and other rule-breaking behavior are banned. Accounts involved in sharing these may be subject to disciplinary action at moderator discretion.

With that said, feel free to discuss whatever here and make acquaintance with your friendly gacha gaming neighbors!

Tell me a Tale For those people who stockpile on currency for the right few characters. Who is a character that snuck up on you and made you go "DAMN I NEED HER" and made you break your rule? For me its Konoka from Blue archive

In all the gacha I play I normally stockpile enough currency until I can ensure a hard spark. No pulls until then, anything else other than a hardspark is a happy accident. It goes double in Blue Archive where its just a waste to pull outside of anni/half anni banners since SSR rates are doubled there.

I dont follow Blue archive news so I actually dont know any upcoming characters. Yesterday a new event rolled out with a new banner and then I saw Konoka and I was like "damn, she hits all the right notes". Did a bit of the story event, shes so damn adorable and then I pulled. Had to hardspark her(vindicated) and only other new character I got was Koyuki Kigurumi. No regrets

So who is your character that "broke your rule"? There was also Phrolova from Wuwa who I initially wasnt interested in but her ingame model gave me an Anorexia fetish.

General Thoughts on alts debuting before the actual character?

Recently Stellar Sora released Swimsuit Willow (instead of the countless NPCs people were wishing to be playable since the beginning) and I was wondering, has this been done on other gachas before? And are your thoughts on it? Should this be done more or should it remain taboo? Do you believe disregarding the usual normal before alt process has any significant effects on the game and its players?

General [PROMO] AniMyst — an anime character guessing game with a 600+ card gacha collection [Free, iOS]

Hey r/gachagaming! Solo dev here — I just launched AniMyst on the App Store.

It's an anime character guessing game with a full gacha card-collection system. The guessing side: a character's face starts blurred and sharpens with each guess, so it's a race to name them before

the reveal (30+ anime — Naruto, One Piece, Demon Slayer, JJK, and more).

The gacha side: open Standard / Premium / Ultra packs to collect 600+ characters across rarities (Common → Rare → Legendary → Exclusive → Mythic), with a soft-pity system, duplicate returns,

set-completion rewards, and crafting to fuse duplicates into rarer cards. Cards grant passive abilities you can equip, and there are weekly + monthly leaderboards with rank progression.

Fully free to play (optional rune packs / remove-ads / premium). I'd genuinely love feedback on the gacha economy and pity balance — and which anime you'd want added next.

Thanks for checking it out! 🙏

Tell me a Tale Your feelings about villains becoming playable, and how much "redemption" do they actually need

I recently came across some discussions in the NTE CN community about Zankou becoming playable in a future update.

Some players seem uncomfortable with the idea because of what she did in the story, especially how close she came to killing Nanally. Their concern is that the writers might suddenly soften her personality, shift the blame onto someone else, or force a rushed redemption arc simply because she now needs to be sold as a gacha character.

It made me think about how often gacha games turn former antagonists into playable characters, or even members of the protagonist’s group.

Sunday from HSR is one example. After the Penacony storyline, some players disliked the idea of a former antagonist joining the Astral Express. However, as the story continued, he was given more opportunities to show other sides of himself and gradually began to feel more integrated into the group.

NIKKE’s Cinderella is another, slightly different example. She was corrupted into Anachiro and became humanity’s first Heretic, but later reclaimed her original identity and turned against the Raptures. In her case, it was less of a traditional redemption arc and more about separating the person she really was from the identity forced onto her.

Personally, I don’t think every playable character has to become morally good or immediately join the protagonist’s friend group. I’m fine with playable villains remaining selfish, dangerous, or even openly hostile, as long as the game doesn’t pretend their past actions never happened.

What matters more to you: whether the character genuinely earns their redemption, whether their actions are properly acknowledged, or simply whether they remain interesting and consistent? What other characters do you think handled the transition from antagonist to playable character well, or terribly?

Review Sword of Convallaria is an absolute gem

Thumbnail
gallery
316 Upvotes

As an avid gacha gamer, I’ve played over a dozen gacha games. I wasn’t expecting to have my heart stolen by Sword of Convallaria.

You play as an adventurer in a time of turmoil, with warring nations and factions. It plays similar to Final Fantasy tactics, and originally was in collaboration with Square Enix. The tactical rpg element is its core gameplay, and is really well done in terms of challenge and complex character building.

What I wasn’t expecting was how beautiful the pixel art was, with excellent voice acting, and to top it off, a really good story line. I find myself unable to skip side quest cut scenes which I’ve done in every Hoyo game ever, because I genuinely care what happens to the main characters. I enjoy decorating the house too although I know not many care for this, it gives me cosy stardew valley vibes.

I’m told it’s quite F2P friendly but I’ve not played long enough to really comment on this. I am enjoying building my 4 star characters and some of them are more useful and nicer in character design than the 5 stars. There is from what I can see some power creep but from what I can tell nothing dramatic with all units being viable for main story content.

My one gripe so far is that stamina costs are expensive and often I run out with nothing to do. There is however a whole non stamina using side quest story system I am enjoying when I run out, which is honestly some of the best story telling I’ve seen in gacha in a long time. Oh and also the auto mode AI is stupid, so you have to manually play harder levels.

As a disclaimer, I’ve been playing only about a week so far but having such a blast. I’ve never heard of SoC before a friend suggested it to me, I was surprised to hear it’s been out for 2 years. Absolutely slept on!

TLDR- if you enjoy tactical rpg, and gacha, and/or pixel art and good story telling, you should give SoC a try. It is honestly the best new gacha game I’ve played in years, I’m so surprised.

Sharing some examples of the art here. Keen to hear any thoughts!
