Why is Dark Souls 1 combat often dismissed as clunky and outdated? Anyone else REALLY like Dark Souls 1 combat?

Hot take, but Dark Souls 1 might be my favorite combat. I admit it feels a bit odd at first, but once I get used to it, it feels amazing. I love the slower methodical style and every hit just feels much heavier and impactful compared to the other games. You really feel like a knight with armor the most in Dark Souls 1. Plus stamina management seems most important in this game compared to all the other Souls games, which I like.

I admit the only issue I have with Dark Souls 1 combat is only 4-directional rolling instead of 8. But that isn't enough to completely ruin the combat for me personally.

Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring combat a ton. But IMO, faster and lighter does not always mean better, it's just different. Apples and oranges I guess.

The main thing that makes me sad about Dark Souls 1 is I just wish there was a bit more weapons and unique weapons. And spells could be better balanced, but same can be said about magic for all Souls games.

All the Souls games are amazing though. This is not me saying Dark Souls 1 is superior to all, it's just my personal fav. I love em all tho, and support all different opinions. ❤️

DISCUSSION How would these two interact?

  1. The White Dragon, Seath the Scaleless, born without eyes, legs, and most importantly, stone scales of immortality. A lonely soul who coveted what he did not have, what he was denied from birth. He betrayed his own, sided with the Great Lord Gwyn and defeated the Ancient Dragons. As reward, he became a member of the royal family, granted the title of duke, and was given a vast archive to pursue his research. Overtime, he would be driven mad by his endless research into scales of immortality and his overwhelming lonliness. In the end, he never understood what it was he truly lacked.

  2. Bayle the Dread, Terror Incarnate, born without the time-twisting, golden stone scales of his kind, and touched by the wild and chaotic vital energies of the Crucible. A wrathful soul full of hate for those who would dare subjugate him. He turned upon the Dragonlord Placidusax, who brandished Order itself. While there was no true victor, the damage was done. The Dragonlord was grievously wounded and his God had retreated from the world. That day, Bayle had marked both himself and his bloodline as enemies never to be forgiven. Now, he haunts the red skies of the Jagged Peak, with a rage in his heart that will never die.

Booting up my Xbox 360 and found my original Dark Souls file from college. I got it for free on Xbox Gold when that was a thing and was having a great time until I got cursed and quit right before finals 🤣😂

Had a few issues with the print, but overall I'm super happy.

I temporarily placed a flickering LED inside the lantern. Unfortunately, the second photo doesn't show it properly, but it looks amazing on video.

Definitely going to install it permanently because it creates such an awesome atmosphere.

My partner thinks he's too bloody so she's a bit on the fence about him.

DISCUSSION Dark Souls Design Works 1-3

Sharing these design work/art book cover and backs together, I'm aware they re-released with artwork in place of the minimal designs on these ones.

There's something about the jackets and covers underneath which are also fancy that I enjoy more.

I bought these from seperate sellers in the second market.

Would anybody care to guess what the monetary worth of these are? Of course this is not a sales post, nor are they for sale. Just incase there's a rainy day.

Thanks!

QUESTION Bloodborne, DS2 or DeS?

I played DS1 first (right before ER release), then ER and SotE, and now I'm close to finishing DS3 (just have Lothric and the DLCs left) so I'm starting to think about which game to play next. I'm leaning towards Bloodborne or DeS. What do y'all think I should go for next? I have been playing almost exclusively strength unga bunga builds with no magic and I intend to keep it that way. I played about half of DeS previously with a magic build because I heard it was OP.. and it was! But it was not as fun for me, so when I fire that one back up I will be rolling a melee build instead. I've basically not played the other two at all, though I've started the game and seen the intros.

Did Hidetaka Miyazaki draw lessons from Blade of Darkness

I've been wondering whether Hidetaka Miyazaki took any inspiration from Blade of Darkness. I trust Miyazaki, and I know he's never mentioned it in interviews, but the similarities between Blade of Darkness and his games are really hard to ignore. I'm also curious about what the developers of Blade of Darkness think of the Souls series—has anyone ever heard their take on it?

QUESTION Is duskbloods funded by nintendo

this might sound like crazy conspiracy shit and maybe im just stupid, but is it? why else would it come to JUST nintendo? i feel like they had (and they would)to pay fromsoft and maybe bandai namco a ridiculous amount of money to make a brand new game by an extremely loved and appreciated game development company. im probably just losing it its getting late

You don't need an online subscription or even a switch 2 to register for the network test!

The only thing you need is an active Nintendo account. so if you didn't want to buy online yet or if you were on the fence then this shouldn't stop you from registering!

DISCUSSION Fromsofts creepiest enemies? (shoutout to their designers)

Post image
968 Upvotes

I'm playing through DS3 again and for me, Sewer Centipedes will always be No. 1 creepiest monster in any videogame ever.

The monsters they create are definitely top class. Paired with the peak sound design of e.g. Bloodborne they could pull off an extremely scary Survival Horror game if you ask me. Sometimes I'm wondering why they never visited that genre again (after Echo Night and Kuon).

What enemies or bosses do you consider the creepiest?
