Application Request Good private keyboard that has support for Canadian English dictionary and autocorrect?

Default one will only do British and American English, unexpected keyboard constantly spams me with a button for "click to install a dictionary for English (Canada)", and when I press it, the only dictionary available is American English

Any Canadians here have something they use?

Using GrapheneOS

Annoyingly, even the ones with proper Canadian English support (both Heliboard and FUTO) always seem to prioritize American spellings in the predictions (e.g. typing "col" will predict "color" and requires typing all the way to "colou" before "colour" is ever suggested.

Other I'm new here, how secure are open source apps?

I'm new to the open source world. I want to try out different apps, but I don't really know how to verify their security, since I have private information like banking and messaging apps stored on them. Is there any way someone like me can check the security of an open source app, or do you have any tips for deciding whether or not to download one? Thanks a lot.

Privacy My Degoogling journey and resources.

Hi everyone!

I have been doing my best to degoogle my devices and did have a few set backs (Needed to factory restart phone) but that's part of the learning experience! I wanted to post my resources that I use - If anyone has feedback or opinions on how to improve on my degoogling journey please share! Down with Google!!!

I also have an SD Card that I use and back up regularly and clear.

Resource for Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G Model: SM-G988U1- Snapdragon Processor

App stores for degoogling:

  • F-Droid
  • Droid-Ify
  • Github

Apps used for shell and phone management:

  1. Rethink
  2. Package Manager
  3. Shizuku
  4. aShell
  5. SD Maid SE
  6. Hail

Security Apps for online profile:

  1. Proton Suite (I am a premium member. I personally love proton so I don't mind paying) There are free subscriptions however so check them out!
  2. Ente and Ente Auth

Camera and Phone privacy:

  1. Fossify Camera
  2. Fossify Phone/Contacts
  3. Silence Messenger
  4. Signal messenger

File, Notes, and Journal Privacy:

  1. Ente Drive
  2. Ciphernotes
  3. Moon+Reader
  4. Writer Journal
  5. Obsidian
  6. Syncthing-Fork

NOTICE: I cannot control what happens with your device - I can ONLY share what I have been successful in. What you do on your phone is at YOUR OWN RISK.

Apps I have safely removed using Package Manager without causing factory reset loop:

Youtube Chrome Customizations Link to Windows
Google AR Emoji Application Recommendations
Samsung Kids Installer PartnerNetflixActivation SettingsBixby
SamsungCheckout Game Launcher weather
ar core onedrive google assistant
wifi tips smartfaceservice gmail
bixby voice meet installer gallery
meta services google assistant

There are tons of other apps Ive been successful in disabling and removing without issues but it is advised to restart your phone after a few changes to make sure that things are still working.

I hope some of this helps and my goal is to make sure that degooglers know that there ARE ways to degoogle and support developers during this time. This model phone has been locked and OS cannot be changed and root is impossible. I tried Lineage, /e/, and some other OS's and unfortunately this type of phone with the Snapdragon processor will not budge. I personally intend on downgrading my phone when I get a chance.

DEVELOPERS WILL RISE ABOVE THIS!

Application Request App to track group expenses? [Locally]

It seems most FOSS methods are websites, which makes sense since it'd sync with the group and you just access the link and what not.

But we plan travels with the group and internet connection isn't the best sometimes. We also decided that it's best to add the expenses as quick as possible, because it's so hard to keep track of everything afterwards lol; who spent on what and whatever.

Any FOSS app that can do this in an easy way that works only on the phone?

The one [website] I use lets me add the expenses, split between the group and even add "shares" to that person, in case they paid double (like for example they paid 2 meals cause 1 was for someone that's not in the group).

But I'll be down to try anything for now, see if it works for us.

Thanks.

Application Release Announcing MJ PDF 3.0: an open-source PDF reader that now competes with anything on the market

Hey everyone! This is Mudlej, the creator of MJ PDF, the open-source PDF reader for Android. (License is GPLv3)

Back in 2022, I shared the first version of MJ PDF on Reddit. It was a small, fast PDF reader that I had originally made for myself. I decided to share it with the community as a way of giving back to the open-source ecosystem I've always loved and relied on for its incredible tools.

Today, MJ PDF has 40K - 50K active users and more than 150,000 downloads, much of that growth came from communities like this one. Thank you to everyone who has used the app, shared it, reported bugs, or suggested improvements.

Here we are four years after I first shared it here,Ā MJ PDF v 3.0.0Ā is now available, and it is by far the biggest update the app has had. With this release, I believe MJ PDF can stand alongside any PDFĀ readerĀ on the market in both performance and features.

Through all of it, MJ PDF stays what it has always been:

  • SmallĀ (8.5 MB)
  • FastĀ (actually faster)
  • SimpleĀ to use
  • FOSS, Private, and free of ads or tracking.

For a thorough walkthrough and screenshots check out theĀ MJ PDF 3.0 release page.

Some of the main highlights:

  • Home page with recent files, library, progress, covers, and folder browsing
  • Highlights, notes, quote sharing, translation, and an offline dictionary
  • PDF forms, document signing, and incognito mode
  • Hide Margins, dual-page view, and an e-reader-style text mode
  • Backup and restore for history, bookmarks, and settings
  • Faster rendering, Material You design, and support for 15 languages

I tried to as much as I can to preserve the app’s familiar look and feel, so it still feels like the same simple MJ PDF that people already know and enjoy.

Let me know what you think!

Application Release Announing Anti-Vocale - Free, offline, open-source voice-message transcription for Android (25 EU languages, no cloud, Apache 2.0)

I built Anti-Vocale because WhatsApp's native transcription doesn't support Italian on Android ; and the alternatives either upload your voice messages to the cloud or break when the network drops. It runs entirely on-device: share a voice note from any chat app, and it transcribes locally using AI models that run on your phone.

Key points: - Fully offline. No internet needed. Audio never leaves your phone. Inference via ONNX Runtime. - 25+ European languages including Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Dutch, Polish, and more. - 5 swappable ASR backends: Parakeet TDT (fast multilingual), Whisper Distil-IT (best Italian quality), Qwen3-ASR, Nemotron streaming (progressive display), Gemma multimodal. - Open source (Apache 2.0). No accounts, no ads. - Auto-save to a folder of your choice ; point it at a Syncthing/Drive folder and transcripts sync automatically. - Video file transcription (extracts the audio track). - Material 3 UI, localized in English + Italian.

What it doesn't do: upload anything, require an account, show ads, or need a network. Models (300MB–940MB each) download once from HuggingFace; pick one and you're set.

Built with: Kotlin + Jetpack Compose, ONNX Runtime, sherpa-onnx. Apache 2.0 on GitHub.

Links: - Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antivocale.app - GitHub: https://github.com/RisorseArtificiali/anti-vocale - v1.8.0 just shipped ; new folder auto-save + three bug fixes

Transparency note: The app currently includes Firebase Crashlytics for crash reporting. I'm working on a de-tracked build flavor for F-Droid/IzzyOnDroid. The source is open and buildable without it; the FOSS audience is important to me and I want to be upfront about this rather than hide it. Feedback on this is welcome.

Feedback welcome ; especially on transcription quality and model preferences for different languages.

Other Are there any apps or websotes that let you download a website for offline use?

So I was looking for a good and lightweight yet professional video editor and I stumbled accross OpenCut. However, I wasn't able to find an official APK, so I resorted to using the web editor. Now, there's just one problem: IT IS NOT OFFLINE-FIRST. So, I need your help. Is there any type of open-source software that lets you download websites for offline use?

First of all Thank you for all your support. You guys made it for my degoogling and updating open source journey.

It takes less than 1 day to do it.

I updated, altered and deleted the apps as you guys recommendations. If there is still any recommendation I can change it and I pleased to hear it Ā from you.

*gmail is the only app I need to change.

You guys have any tips for quicker progress. I used my gmail for many accounts and I can't do it separately in a quick time.

*How can I notified for updates? I installed in different platforms f-droid, droidy fy, aurora store, github. Its easy to see updates in f-droid and aurora store, what about the apps I installed from github.

* Then what's the next stepšŸŽ‰Ā : changing os and installing mg? Or still have any steps to do.

*If you guys have any other suggestion please say your priceless words.

Thank youā¤ļø

Application Support Why is every single YouTube client not showing videos in playlists (except for NewPipe)?

Before you say "Oh, API change", pretty much every known YouTube client HAS updated to catch up. It's just the playlists that aren't working at all. I'm on HyperOS 2, Android 16. Can someone find a way to fix it? Is it a MIUI problem? Is it an impossible fix? Let me know down in the comments

Apps I wouldn't thought to be FOSS apps: OpenGD (Remake of Geometry Dash), Polandball Can Into Space (self-explanatory), Wikipedia, Launti (Minecraft altermative), Mojo Launcher (MC Java Launcher), Pojav Launcher (MC Java launcher), SponsorCut (Sponsorblock for local videos). Let me know if you have found any unusual apps that are FOSS

Application Request Social memory graph

The other day I had an awkward interaction I've had a lot of times but am still not accustomed to and which makes me feel a lot of guilt: a girl which face rang a bell greeted me very effusively, and I did a kind of "minimal acknowlegment" and escaped as cĆ stig and politely as I knew how to. I knew I knew or had known her but can not for the life of me remember where from, her name, anything.

This is a regular thing for me, and all my friends from highschool and college knew this so usually they just told me what they knew about the person so I got clues as to our past interactions if any.

However, my life as a dysfunctional adult has made this worse. I no longer share all my life with a recurrent group of people or two, so no one but myself can help me when I have no idea even which part of my life someone is from. Are you from work? Do we share a hobby? Are you someone from highschool? Are you from a cultural local event? Are you someone I met at a party?

With time, I have come to the conclusion that I NEED a simple, FOSS app where I can make a visual representation of people I meet with a simple physical and personality description, the connections between them and a photo if I can get one.

Does anybody use something like this?

Development Introducing: Atrium, an *arr media stack manager application.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello Everyone

My team and I have spent the last two months working on Atrium, a central courtyard for your self-hosted media stack.

Since LunaSea was archived earlier this year, we decided to pick up where it left off with a brand new, Material 3 Flutter codebase built entirely around multi instance setups.

What is Atrium?
Atrium is a single Android application that acts as a unified frontend for all the media stack services. It is designed purely as a controller and management surface, so you can manage your services and leave playback to the official apps.

Supported Services:

  • Sonarr
  • Radarr
  • Prowlarr
  • Bazarr
  • Seerr
  • Tautulli
  • JellyFin
  • Emby
  • Plex
  • qBittorrent
  • SABnzbd
  • Glances

The app is vibe-coded, but with brutal and rigorous user testing to ensure a bug free experience (Yes, we do use this app ourselves everyday).

You can grab the latest release here: https://github.com/retransmit/Atrium/releases/tag/v1.0.7

We’re currently in the middle of getting Atrium officially listed on F-Droid, but we want to make sure everything is flawless. We could really use some extra help on the project right now. If you're down to help out, check out our F-Droid merge request here: gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/-/merge_requests/43077

Development I got tired of bloated music apps, so I spent the last few months building an open-source, self-host, streaming music client for Android. Meet starl :3

Thumbnail
gallery
67 Upvotes

Just wanted to share a project that i am really proud called **starl**. It’s an open-source streaming music client for Android designed to be clean, offline, no ads, simple and totally on your control.

### Why I built it:

Most of open-source alternatives to popular music apps were.. bloated, abandoned, buggy or just too visually complex and noisy. Sometimes when developers stopped updating, everything stops all together. So?

- It's offline, works on background

- It's super customizable

- Respects privacy, nothing gets tracked

- Can import content from other platforms

- Has a public server, but also a self-host executable ready to connect.

- No ads, you control your recommendations (you can even turn off, export or clear all statistics)

- Visually simple and cute

- NoAiCode (The code is mine, the documentation is partially AI, no excuses.)

This uses my custom license called PFF (Pure Freedom Forever)

Just states the project is yours, is free forever. It's in the website and in GitHub repo.

### Links:

- *Official Website:** https://starl.pages.dev

- *Source Code (GitHub):** https://github.com/everm4iva/starl

I’d love to hear your thoughts, feature requests, or any bugs you run into! I'm actively working on it.
