Hi everyone!!

First time posting here and my first ever forage. My boyfriend and I live in a suburban area so went out to pick blackberries. I’m making it into jam as we speak but starting to wonder if they’re actually blackberries 😆 can someone confirm I won’t die?

We cleaned them in a 3:1 ratio of water and white wine vinegar, rinsed and then left overnight.

There seems to be many wild plum trees around where I take my dog for a walk and I'd like to forage some but want to know if there's anything that looks a lot like a plum that could be toxic. Any tips?

Leek and tattie soup and freshly picked Chanterells.

I was out with my daughter and she was curious about this fruit. I'm pretty confident it's a plum but I was wondering if anyone here can be more specific than that.

Is this edible?

These plants were growing in amongst stinging nettle, but the ones with white flowers were not stinging?

UPDATE - walked past again today and found plentiful thorns, i must not have been looking hard enough yesterday! They are lower down the branches as some of you said - so blackthorn/sloe it is! Thanks for your help. I’ll hold off picking until they’re darker. FYI we’re south east and it’s been very hot, which might explain how early they are!

hello, I was wondering if anyone might know what this is/if it’s edible? I thought it was blackthorn, but the branches look too pale and thornless

Lots of blackberries around my place in West Midlands this year. 20 minutes of avoiding the prickly parts gave me this. What are we making of them? 😋

Every other year, I forage yarrow and turn it into salve and powder. The salve's brilliant for cuts, scrapes and dry/irritated skin (accidentally found out it's a fab make-up remover, too!) and the powder's an anti-inflammatory that helps stop bleeding in small injuries. Nature's first aid kit! 👌🏻

I want to double check that this isn’t Giant Hogweed growing all up the lane to my in-laws’ house.

I *think* it is just common hogweed, but there is such a variety:

purple stem / green stem,

wide leaves / narrow leaves,

Etc

Hey newbie forager here I've been searching for chicken of the woods lately (I have become so obsessed that I dream about finding troves of it) was walking to the train station and saw these, at first I couldn't believe but quickly realised they're not COTW or so I think that said what are they?

I wasn't able to stop for long so sorry if the pictures aren't the best, they had pores not gills but was a bit hard to see as they were quite low, I touched the pale bit and it felt kinda of like cold butter you can actually see where I left an indent of my finger on the second picture at the top left corner of the shroom,

The darker bits were quite hard I ran it through an ID app out of curiosity but couldn't seem to get a good reading.

Thanks guys, also if anyone has any tips with finding COTW would happily take any tips.

I've not seen these before so I grabbed a few. I plan on making some syrup unless it's not the best idea.

Any recommendations on preparation or how to use them?

We have been cutting it right back to bare wood in an attempt to get rid of it (30cm from garage wall). No wonder it keeps coming back with a vengeance. This year it’s bore nuts so hopefully squirrels don’t get them before they are ready. If they do though I’m not that bothered. I’m not usually a nut person. But nice find regardless.

If anyone has any suggestions on what I should do, I’d love to hear them!! I’m honestly not really sure what to do/how to store or prepare them

I saw these whilst out yesterday and I wouldn't have thought anything of them except the ones ripened do look like Deadly Nightshade with the deep blue/black colour and 5 petals.

Another lookalike or actual Deadly Nightshade?

I want to use them in my restaurant and have permission from the farmer I just want to be sure these are definitely edible cherry plums/mirabelle?

I've been trying to improve my apiaceae identification. I'm not yet confident enough to pick anything (and would never do so until I'm 100% confident in identifying), but it's still one of the types of plant I'm interested in as I'm out and about because it's so abundant.

What I'd really love to find is some Angelica but don't think I have so far. I believe I'm confident enough to identify and avoid the Hemlocks. However, I'm unsure about what lookalike species are that have, say, leaves like either Hemlock or Hemlock Water Dropwort but have different (hairy) stalks. The hogweeds have distinct leaves from either, but I avoid Common Hogweed in order to also avoid Giant Hogweed.

- Hemlock - Purple blotching, smooth stalks. Carrot-like leaves.
- Hemlock Water Dropwort - Smooth stalks, Parsley-like leaves, mainly grows near waters edge.

I have some images here that I believe are positive identifications of the Hemlocks, but could anyone help with the lookalike pictures that are unknown?

Any recommendations for spots for Meadowsweet and Mugwort in Bristol?

I've found one spot with Meadowsweet but there's really not much so I don't want to take it..

Found a huge patch of Oregano! Would have loved to bag some up and take it home but the land it was growing on was contaminated significantly. This is on the site of a historical landfill that goes back to pre 1960s, in Hitchin.

I’m quite strict about contaminants when it comes to foraged foods, probably overly cautious. So much food grows by motorways; plums, apples; pears etc. I won’t touch any of it unfortunately.

Does anyone else share the same feeling?
