Flow art that's easy on the wrist? (Hypermobility/arthritis)

I went to my first fest with lots of flow artists a couple years ago and fell in love with the idea of learning to use a prop. I went out and bought fans and a flow star right away, and have really been consistently falling deeper into the hobby the past few months (my flow star is basically security blanket at this point 😅), but I suffer from hypermobility and arthritis in my wrist and it's really taking a toll on them.

Any recommendations for props that don't strain the wrist as much?

Dragon Ribbon Dancing!

I forgot I had this Gem from my travels last year capturing Dragon Ribbon Dance masters in Beijing.

I will be posting a longer video explain the origin of Dragon Ribbon Dance as a cultural variant of ribbon dancing. It is now also known to some as Dragon Poi/Streamer. Stay tuned!

For those interested in getting them, you can search on E-commerce websites for Dragon Ribbon/Poi/Streamer. Some places still maintain the name Fitness Dragon as well.

I made a basic tutorial for it for those interested to try: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fiyfIg1N-w

I've always had lots of dexterity in both hands and picked up buugeng pretty quickly so I picked up some LED ones. Just got these a couple weeks ago. Still learning.

LED flowstar recs

Has anyone used a glow or LED/light up flowstars from various brands? Wondering how SpinFlowStar, Ultrapoi, and brain plague designs compare. Do you like the lights on one better? Is one just easier to spin?

Which would you recommend?

Thanks!

Dragon Staff Beginner dragon staff recommendations!

Hi flow fam! My partner has been wanting to take up his first prop! He has decided on dragon staff, and with his birthday coming up next month I figured it was time to pull the trigger. Im hoping some of yall can provide some guidance or recs on what I should look for in a staff.

Overall he’s most interested in LED or daytime, so I think spiral head or LED head would be best. I’ve kinda found 3 staffs I’m thinking about but am open to other recs.

First is the Cosmo LED dragon staff, it looks amazing and would be his style, but I’m not sure if at that price tag it’s good for a beginner.

Next is the Fusion dragon, I like the modularity and portability, but he’s not super interested in fire, and I’m not sure how the LED heads compare to Cosmo. It’s also on the pricey side.

Last is the practice dragon staff on the sacred flow arts site. It’s very basic with wick heads, but maybe good for a beginner to start with and see if he likes it before moving up to a nicer one. (But I’m also not sure if more basic means it’ll be harder to start learning)

Lastly different question. Length seems to be primarily dictated by how tall the artist is but I’m not sure.

And when it comes to spoke count is that just personal preference or do they function differently?

Thanks all!

Discussion Juggler looking for prop recommendations

Hi! I'm a juggler looking to get into some other flow arts. I have a set of vision clubs that I'm in love with, but I'm looking to expand my horizons a little bit. I'm interested in contact staff, multi staff, fans, poi and hooping. Looking for some recommendations to get my hands on some cheap, decent quality non led versions of a bunch of these props so I can start playing around and decide on a fundamental 2nd prop to start investing time and energy into. Also just recommendations for your favourite props in general!

Cheers!

I just discovered this thread, so... THANK YOU! Such beauty here I could be mesmerized for hours. I love the flow arts and want them to continue growing in my area so I'll be posting about upcoming events like flow jams, workshops, classes, meet-ups, etc. I've been practicing Poi, Hoop, and Staff since 2002. I'm still in love with flow.

trying to generate just barely enough spin to keep it open, yet still spin slow enough to catch in about the same spot within one full rotation.

Boston flowmies?

I recently moved to Boston for a three month contract, looking for folks to flow with. It's hard to find a flow community when you move every 3 months, I would love to meet up with some like-minded folks
