Flip phone recommendations?
I'm a 25 year old mom with a 10 month old. I would like a basic phone that I can use GPS on. I don't want anything fancy I just don't have the best navigational skills. Does anyone have a flip phone that has been reliable for them?

nokia 2660 flip issues
hey everyone,
i was wondering how many of you had issues with the Nokia 2660 flip? I bought it last year but didn't fully use it until now. I realized I couldn't personalize my ringtone when I try to apply one and select OK nothing happens and it shows me I can select the file for sim 1, 2, 3, 4 but the phone can only have 2 sims. I find this super annoying as the original ringtones are super bad and they're also super loud so whenever my phone rings I feel like my alarm was on.
I also put the number of my voicemail in the settings of my phone so it can be easier and more practical for me but it never seems to stay because every time I use the feature it says that no number was saved.
Anyway, this phone seemed like the best option for me because no many flip phones are available where I live. While I wanted to maybe get another phone because I thought it was a super fragile and a not pretty flip phone but now I'm really thinking of getting another one as I find it not really 'practical'

What a beauty!
galleryBought this beauty (Sharp Aquos Keitai 3 805SH - yes, it's literally called ケータイ3 [keitai3]) a few weeks ago for roughly 140 €. It's definitely not the best, especially when it comes to hardware, and Android 8 is ... yeah, not exactly up-to-date and feels somewhat sluggish. But as a "detox" phone for listening to music and chatting on Messenger (WhatsApp, Telegram, good old SMS) while on the go, I think it's more than enough. Here in Germany there's also no problem with LTE/4G-connection.
The decorations could still use some work; I'll take care of them in the near future as I feel like it, but for now I've attached a 15-ish year old Hello Kitty-keychain and my beloved Eevee to the keitai.

sharing my flipphones so far
galleryhello! I got these secondhand-- Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 G-1650, I believe and a Kyocera KYF37. I never really planned to get two, but I managed to snag them both for a really good deal, so I just went for it.
My mobile phone runs out of battery REAL fast, so whenever I go home late via commute, I usually need an alternate mode of communication, hence why I was on the hunt for a flip phone these past few months. Ireally love it so far, though, especially the cameras and so much fun texting or customizing it!
Also, if anyone's curious about the characters on them-- The Folder 2 is themed after the Professor Layton series with Luke as the tiny keychain. The KYF37 is themed after Tokusatsu GaGaGa's Shishi Leo, very reminiscent of Super Sentai/Power Ranger-esque characters.

need a basic phone until i can get a new smartphone
my current smartphone is on its last pinky toe- literally, all it does not is restart over and over by itself and stay at 0% (for reference it's an overheating, 6-year-old lg velvet 5g, with a swelling battery and a bunch of cracks on the back glass (both new additions from the last month tho))
i don't have a big budget right now because i'm 16 and still looking for a job lol, so preferable something around $100 or less (which i understand will be somewhat hard to find)
i need something to hold me over until i can save up for a new phone. i mainly need something that is United States compatible, unlocked (or compatible with Verizon), has text & calls, and can access the internet
though i would prefer something with a sleeker & prettier design, i don't really care what it looks like. i just need it to be sturdy enough to last me at most a few years with a decent battery and no overheating
it doesn't need to be a flip phone perse, as long as it meets the qualifications (and so i wont need to change my current number)
thanks!!

Canada
Has anyone found any flip phones that work in Canada? Preferably with Freedom Mobile.
Freedom sells the TCL Flip 6 but it doesn't work with 5g which worries me about longevity. Are there any flip phones with 5G?

Extracting Photos from a 2004 flip phone
I used an LG VX6100 at a concert to take photos before I learned there’s no easy way to download the photos. The phone doesn’t have Bluetooth or an sd card; I can’t turn on service and send them to myself because Verizon doesn’t support 3G anymore.
I have a data cable and tried to download a bunch of different softwares in order to recover them, but I found many of them require a very very old version of Windows that is almost impossible to run nowadays.
Does anyone know of a service that could get these photos off this phone? I’ve been to Best Buy and they couldn’t help but recommended local phone repair shops that might have a cellebrite machine. None that I’ve been to have the ability to recover these. I’m willing to mail it somewhere, I’m just not sure where to look or if I’m making it too complicated.

Questions/advice
I really want to get a flip phone, I want a la fleur most but am unsure if I’d be able to put an old SIM card in and have it work well (I use Verizon if that’s important to know), if I can’t does anyone have other flip phone recommendations that I’d be able to do this well with?
I currently use an iPhone 15 so my
SIM card is built in but I have a SIM card from an old iPhone 12.
Would it possible for me to put the old sim card in a flip phone but still be able to use my current iphone when I need/want?

TCL Classic Flip Phone- can you mod it?
Hello! If this isn't the place for this post then a gentle push in the right direction would be nice! I just got a TCL Classic flip phone and while I enjoy the buffer between a phone basic functions and all the other stuff, I WAS wondering if some stuff can be added. Google maps in particular would be an awesome thing to download. I am aware that other models do have Google Maps, but the TCL Classic was what was available to me.
I am pretty novice at modding stuff, aside from a 3DS I really haven't modded anything and if there are others willing to provide resources or suggestions I'd be greatly appreciative!

Downgraded to a mive style folder!
galleryI have a s23 ultra, unfortunately cracked and the screen isn't doing too well. I was averaging 10 hours a day. I unironically would rather game than scroll and rely on my phone this much.
I have a Ayn thor for mobile games and of course other options for PC games, so it's not like I need a beefy phone
The launcher I'm using I do not recommend at all for this phone, but I really like the vibes and how simple it looks. I made the icons myself.
I just need a nice little charm to top it off :3

6 Months with the Mive ALT Style Folder 2 Japanese Edition

I've had this phone for well over 6 months now. Let me first start by listing the things I have liked with this phone:
- Its cool. Its a cool looking phone that most people where I live (australia) have never seen before. gets a lot of attention
- Fairly usable. Runs most apps that I need, including banking apps. Can run instagram but I choose not to install it.
- Typing with T3 works great, I have very little issues with it.
- Calls work wonderfully, since the japanese version has better connectivity for where I live.
- The screen on the back is cool as it displays the time and my steps.
- Pretty fast for a phone like this, can open apps fairly quickly.
- Expandable storage is good.
- Headphone jack is awesome.
- Screen is good enough.
Now all the issues with it:
- No android auto. This hurts my soul so much because I have to carry around my iPhone if I want to use Waze or Music for my car.
- Battery life gets worse. It started great, but over time I believe the capacity reduced and now it can die fairly quickly, especially if you leave hotspot turned on, it WILL die in a couple of hours.
- Some parts of my apps simply don't work with the keypad, for example I cannot type in my pin for my banking app, so I have to use my password everytime.
- Its still big. Yes its smaller than most phones, but for a flip phone its still quite large. And heavy.
- Camera sucks. There is nothing else to say but that it is not very good. Works, but not good.
- No NFC, so no tapping to pay.
- No in-built QR code scanner.
Will I get another phone? Possibly, not having android auto / carplay is the biggest turn off for me. perhaps the next version will come shipped with it.
My wishlist for the next generation of phones like this:
- OLED screen
- NFC
- Better battery
- Android Auto
- Smaller size / less weight

My kyf42
galleryBought this from Japan through proxy. Risked it all but it arrived on my doorstep without having to go through insane procedures of importing electronic products which I'm glad for.
Have been using this for some day now, figured out a lot of the things from the internet and some myself.
Ask anything if you want to!
Also any suggestions or tips for this phone? Can be apps, some tricks or good to know stuff.
Apps that are currently on my kyf42:
Key Mapper
Traditional T9
Signal
Musicolet
Via
Wallet (my finance track app)
C9
Aurora Store
K9 mail

Welcome to /r/midwitphones!
This is a manual repost of this post because this subreddit does not allow for cross-posting.
Midwit phones are a colloquial name for the newly-emerging category of phones between dumbphones and smartphones.
This category has also been called by various other names, including hybrid phones, smart feature phones, transition devices, etc.
Such phones tend to be either dumbphones with a lot of preinstalled apps targeted at modern needs, or smartphones with a certain amount of usage friction built into their design, such as a dumbphone form factor, a small screen, lack of screen touch sensitivity, web and/or social media blocks, etc.
If you need something less addictive than a typical smartphone, but something with WhatsApp and/or Telegram and/or Signal and/or Spotify and/or your banking applications and/or your payment applications, what you need is a midwit phone.
This subreddit was created because more and more people looking for exactly this kind of phone were having trouble finding exactly the right subreddit to go to. We aim to be that destination.
