[NMD] Rovyvon A8 219B "5700K"

Just wanted to post this to let people know that the A8 is not as hard to mod as I was originally worried about. This one's been swapped for a 219B "5700K" from Simon, but it seems to measure closer to 4200K, which is a pleasant surprise for me. Either way, way nicer than the stock 219C or SST20 options. Not sure if I accidentally was sent the wrong bin or something.

To open the bezel, all I had to do with use some vice grips with a rubber strap and twist hard and the glue came undone.

EDIT: turns out I accidentally dedomed the emitter. I was hoping to avoid this by using a 219 instead of a 519, but oh well. Still looks beautiful!

Running the lighting for an Evil Dead musical. Needed to highlight the bridge without bleeding into the rest of the stage. Our spots were too wide when fully zoomed in.

Video cuts because directly after I brighten up the stage. Just needed something for the quick jab when he uses the stage prop flashlight.

This did get a few laughs, too!

Question I need help finding a replacement cartridge for a specific flashlight.

I have recently bought this hard-case pro swivel flashlight at a thrift store for 2 dollars. With the only issue and reason why it was there being that it’s missing the cartridge that holds the batteries (4 x AA).

It’s model number is TUF421P and the US Patent number is D514721 if anyone can find something based on that.

If anyone knows where I can buy a replacement / alternative or has any other info / advice on how to make this guy glow I would greatly appreciate it.

The Imalent SR32 has been discontinued. Will there be a new long-range model in the SR series replacing it soon? I want a long-range beam like the SR32's, not the wide beam of the MS32.

Nothing wrong with it. Curiosity got the better of me. And it was extremely easy to open. Two T-6 torx bits and a small curved pry tool. After removing the back clip screws, theres a small flat lip you can fit a curved pry tool or even a small flathead. Then carefully pull up and the gasket separates in one piece.

Re-installing is the same, but theres a clip at the head-end you slide the backplate under first, then push the whole thing into place.

Only Anduril (candle/lightning modes) with deep or two way clip (hands free) WITH usb-c charging batteries or body?? It’s Sweet though! May buy it tomorrow. FWAA/TS10, etc all use non-protected flat top batteries with external charger needed. No thanks! Not carrying a secondary charger.

Question Driver for Cree XP-E2 far red/730nm

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Found this board on Caidomain and want to make a flashlight with it. But the problem is I don't know where to find driver for it or what type is suitable, IR drivers are ~1.5v and normal led are 3v. Connection stated as parallel and Cree datasheet specifies forward voltage of max 2.2v and 1.5 amperes per LED so I need 2.2v 4.5A (or slightly lower amps) 22mm or less driver powered by single lithium cell. What are my options, preferably from Chinese sources cause I'm outside of US and EU so shipping might be problematic

P.S. some night 🫘🫘🫘 tax added

NLD AceBeam UC3A! A fun sized EDC light.

AceBeam UC3A

I’ve had my eye on some AceBeam lights for a while now, and what better way to sample their products than starting small? The UC3A is just that, an extremely pocketable EDC light. With dual front SST-36F emitters pushing out 900 lumens and a side light providing 270 degrees of white or RGB light, it offers a lot of versatility. Add a strong tail magnet, dual-fuel capability (it takes an off-the-shelf AAA battery), and a straightforward UI, and it punches above its weight class. It packs a large amount of functionality into a fun-sized candy bar package.

I like that it’s a useful tool I’m not afraid will light my pocket on fire (whomnst among us‽). It fills a niche in my collection of safer, smaller lights. I’ve been using this one as a secondary pocket light, or as one I’ll gladly hand to one of my kids or my wife without worrying. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got a soft spot for my retina fryers, but this smaller useful little light earns its place too.

What’s in the box?

  • •The AceBeam UC3A
  • •400 mAh 10440 battery cell with built-in USB-C port (already inside the light)
  • •USB-C charging cord
  • •Keychain ring/clip
  • •Spare O-rings
  • •Warranty card
  • •User manual
  • •Certification card

Build quality and design

This is my first AceBeam, so I’m coming in fresh. It feels solidly made, complete with screws holding the head and tail onto the body. The finish has a nice satin texture that feels uniform and tough. The two buttons compress with a haptic click for feedback. The battery compartment tail threads on and off smoothly and feels secure.

The design doesn’t overthink itself. The dual emitters up front are a smart call for doubling the brightness. The two button interface keeps things straightforward and removes ambiguity. The side light is unique, I’m not sure I’ve seen a rectangular EDC light boasting 270 degrees of from a side light before. An interesting quirk. The RGB lights are a welcome extra, though I find the available options and how you cycle through them leave something to be desired (more on that below). The strong tail magnet on the battery compartment, plus the ability to take any AAA, is a standout feature. The pocket clip isn’t in my preferred orientation, but it functions well and lets the light sit low in my pocket. The versatility here would make this a great gift for a non-enthusiast, or a solid backup light, which is how I’ve been carrying it lately as I mentioned above.

UI and usability

The UI is straightforward and controlled by two buttons. The one closest to the front emitters controls those front emitters, of course, the other controls the side light. The buttons are even marked with a little diagram of a front light and “RGB” respectively. I’ve linked a diagram pulled from AceBeam’s website below. It has many of the key features I look for in an EDC light. It can be locked, moonlight from off, turbo from off, quick brightness control, and it automatically starts on medium from off.

https://www.acebeam.com/Images/uploaded/UC3A-1/08.jpg

I have a few small gripes, and they are as follows. Locking takes a decent amount of time, I’d prefer 4 clicks (4C) over the long press it currently requires. Cycling modes on the side light could also be easier if 2C changed colors and 3C cycled flashing modes, rather than stepping through all of them in sequence. My biggest complaint of all is the lack of battery level indication. Given that the RGB lights are already there, incorporating a battery-level color indicator seems like an easy win.

The usability here sits in the space between the small clip lights I own and the larger EDC ones. This isn’t what you’re reaching for if you’re trying to spot deer across a field, and that’s fine. But for illuminating your tent at the end of the night, or checking under the sink for a leak, the UC3A earns its spot in my collection.

Performance

The 900 lumen front emitters work great. The side light is useful, though not as bright as I expected. The RGB side light is dimmer still, and there’s only one option for any kind of dynamic color effect. I’m left wanting more here, something like a simplified version of the RGB effects on my SK05s. That said, it’s still useful. Packing all of this into a genuinely small package is where the UC3A makes its mark.

TLDR

This isn’t a powerhouse retina destroyer, but for the tasks it was built for, it excels. Solid performance in a compact and well-built EDC light. With an interesting side light design, a strong tail magnet, and a no-frills UI, it’s a worthwhile addition to my collection. The kicker is the ability to take any AAA battery, which adds real versatility.

Beamshot Wurkkos FC11C with 60° Convoy TIR mod results

Thumbnail
gallery
17 Upvotes

I tried modding my FC11C (5000K) with the 21mm 60° Beaded TIR lens from Convoy and made a quick comparison picture.

The beam is definitely more spread out with the 60° TIR. It's like if the light from the hotspot was spread across the entire spill of the original reflector.

I've used it with some close up and indoors tasks and the even beam from the TIR definitely looks nicer compared to the stock reflector for that purpose.

Water resistance seems to be okay when using the original white centering gasket and O-ring with the TIR lens, but I don't trust it as much as the stock reflector with the glass. The exposed plastic TIR lens is also at risk of getting scratched up due to the lack of the glass lens.

Why do people buy so many Olight flashlights?

My brother loves camping, and I’m looking for a gift for him. While searching for camping gear, I came across Olight.

I noticed that many people own multiple Olights and even share their collections online. Is this mainly because they are good practical tools, or is there also a collecting aspect to it (like different colors, limited editions, etc.)?

If I want to buy one for my brother, should I just get one good flashlight, or would a set be a better choice for someone who enjoys camping?

Lumintop gt nano 3.0

I didn't expect the flashlight to be this practical. Using the low mode, it gives me 31 lumens for about 9 hours if I use the large battery. I'll be using it for EDC instead of the C8+ SFT25R, which required a separate pants pocket to carry and was heavy for edc.

I will buy the Lumintop GT Nano 5.0; it is a versatile and powerful flashlight for its size.

Discussion Loop Gear SK06 / Founding 50?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I just saw this on Loop Gear's FB page. Looks like they are doing an application process for what they are calling the "Founding 50" - sounds basically like 50 people get early access. I have a few of their lights, but now I think I may want to try for this. Early access would be cool to put on my resume.

Has anyone done anything like this before? Any advice? Should I just go over there and wait for the application to drop?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Why so few mentions of Surefire, Modlite, Streamlight, or even Cloud defensive in this group? Is it because they are more associated with firearms or is it the price? Or maybe it’s something I haven’t thought of?
