So just beat her and got the frozen butterfly ending. Did anyone else here think she was suuuuper hard compared to the PS2 OG and the 2026 remake? Like she can literally teleport right in front of you and instantly kill you. If I remember correctly, even on nightmare mode in the OG PS2 version, she couldn’t instantly kill you. She would just bring you down to a sliver of health. That plus the camera angle and the Wii controls making Mio’s movements not as smooth, makes it hard to keep up with her movements. Like she legit feels faster on the Wii version or Mio feels slower. Anyways this is probably a skill issue of mine but just wanted to see if anyone else had the same issues :P

I've been a huge fan of Fatal Frame and I'm a huge aesthetic figurine collector. There's like 0 Fatal Frame merch so seeing this has made my year. (I also love Kotobukiya)

The Madison and Visage scared me(jumpscares). The FF’s open door sometimes scares me a little.

I've done a few playthroughs to get all achievments, pretty neat game tbh. The game's optimization less so but that's nothing new. My PC isn't the greatest anyway, Ryzen 3700X, RTX 2070 Super, but I turned down a few settings and it's a smooth 60fps throughout most of the game.
...until I get to chapter 8 where the game kinda does whatever it wants. *Sometimes* it's smooth, other times the game has severe framedrops throughout the entire outside area, sometimes the battle with the children for the pinwheel is buttery smooth, other times the frames drop hard. The chapter also starts to introduce more loading stutter than previous chapters. And I can basically close the game, re-open and it's a random 50/50 chance of the game either running absolutely smooth in this chapter or not so much. Once I get inside the tree the performance normalizes itself again.
Anyone else noticed this? Why the inconsistent performance in this particular chapter? Is it Mayu's fault?

God, I feel like I gaslit myself, I have watched people play Fatal Frame for years, recently got my anxiety under control so decided to play Fatal Frame 4 on the Switch. Was so happy that I beat it with 76 of 79 dolls, didn't freak out so much (wonders of ADHD being under control) and was just really excited to try to play more.
So I own most of the games, I booted up my PS3 and decided to start at the beginning, and play Fatal Frame 1. Oh my God, I hate the Blind Lady for one, and I keep pausing the game instead of getting my camera out, (button layout ftw) and I got most of the way through Demon Tag, and finally rage quit, because I couldn't find enough healing and the stupid dude inthe abyss kept killing me on the fucking ladders
So I rage quit, decided I would play the new 2, I own the PS2 one, but wanted to try the new 2. WHY THE HELL DID THEY MAKE THIS INTO SOME KIND OF ACTION RPG. That first Ghost just was relentless, and I'm like WTF. I ended up pulling up playthroughs of the Wii version and the new one to show my husband how AGGRESSIVE these ghosts are now.
God, I feel like I gaslit myself into thinking I could play these games. Why was 4 so enjoyable, but 1's mechanics are so unforgiving, and 2 remake is like wtf. I'm thinking of trying the PS2 version of 2 now, cause Jesus.
Anyone else have this problem? I swear I'm usually decent at gaming, but run and gun games usually are the worst for me, I wasn't prepared. (I have watched someone play the new remake, but it was so different while playing)

A alguien más le pasa que al poner en el menú principal continuar partida en la PlayStation 5 slim trade como 20 segundos en iniciar lo raro es que estos tiempos de carga tan largos solo los noto en este juego, de hecho jugué su demo y no pasaba esto

It’s crazy because I never heard of Fatal Frame and I loveee horror ! Someone recommended me FF because I really loved Silent Hill f and I saw they have an outfit cross over so that got me even more excited. I’m going to start it today so let’s see how it goes !
Also I got the JP ver because I’m in Asia and it was insanely cheaper for me plus one day I hope to learn Japanese so win win for me haha

Hello again! Like the title says, I'm just curious if there's anything remaining from back in the day of people discussing or examining Crimson Butterfly.
I've tried finding old youtube vids, but it's all playthroughs while new stuff is all reviews for the remake. I'm just thirsting for more CB content, and I've already read everything on FFT. Even something like RIPS/decompile of game files to see what got left in would be cool.
Thank you! :) I'm currently about to start FF5 to finish my full Fatal Frame series playthrough, but the og CB just has me in its claws, I swear.

I just got both endings by completing the side stories Yae Kurosawa and the Kusabi. I first got The promise, then I loaded the last save and got The abyss. Now there's a problem though, I want to get the Sprouting wings ending where I need both Sae and Mayu's spirit stones, but if I start ng+ from The promise/The abyss save, I only have the Sae's spirit sone shard/Mayu's spirit stone shard depending on wich ending I load. To have both stones in the same playthrough (so I can equip them both for the Sprouting wings ending) do I need to replay the whole game to get one of the 2 endings separately? Is there any other way around it?

I entered the Fatal Frame 2 Remake photo contest when it started in March. At first I didn't know what to enter it with, but after playing through the game multiple times and 100% it (all outfits and charms, I have no life), I knew what I wanted to use as my photo. The second image is what I came up with and entered it into the contest. I was very surprised, but also happy that this was my first contest that I actually won in.
Here is the link on the winners of the contest:

finished the game and i loved it, going for 100%, something i dont understand is the chapter select/NG+ system.. as far as im aware, selecting "chapter select" through x save file puts me in that chapter with the progress of x save file, however, how am i meant to capture all the specters, twin dolls, blood seals, etc. all at once? what if for instance im looking at a specter guide, and in the middle of a chapter, i remember missing a twin doll and cant go back? is there a full linear guide for obtaining every item in one playthrough?

I took this screenshot back when the official photo contest was held right after the game's release!
I wanted to match the red butterflies with the kimono, and managed to get this nice shot in a rather unexpected location.
Can anyone guess where this was taken?
(It didn't even place in the contest, though… )

I guess the NA copies were printed in limited supplies which means the prices shot up. eBay wants about $300 and I'm not interested in making someone else rich lol.
Also, I have the game digitally, I just wanted a physical Xbox copy for collection purposes.

Ok. I really liked this game and its concept of dreams and its connection with the 2 previous games. I have to clarify that this one was my second gameplay because the first one I played it in normal difficulty and reached the final boss with just a few items (medicine and the weakest reel) so I was not able to defeat Reika (to reach the final boss in normal difficulty took me like 14 hours)... So I had to start all over again but this time in easy, to finish it quickly since I want to continue with the next entries of the series. I have to say that at the moment this one is my favorite entry of the series :)

Picked this up in Japan recently. I’ve played the ps2 OG many years ago and then the 2026 remake but I never played the Wii version before. Having a blast with it so far tho the motion controls haven’t been as smooth as I would have hoped. Any tips I should know?

Pls don't flame me because I genuinely enjoyed this game and woke up excited every day to play it. However, once I got to about the 10th chapter, it felt less like a game and more like a walking simulator with the same ghosts I've seen attacking me. I'm not even scared anymore and don't feel rewarded for defeating ghosts, especially when if I'm trapped in a room I can just pop 3 herbal medicine and be at full health.
Idk, the game is just overly repetitive, and as much as I'd like to explore Fatal Frame more, this game has left me irritated by the amount of traversing through the same areas over and over. Yes! This room is very pretty, but why am I seeing it AGAIN? It's so boring omg.
I'm on the last drop, and I'm not even excited for the ending. I'm just like, when is this over? And I'm hearing that I still have a good hour to an hour and a half left of this final chapter with god-awful auto-saving, so I have to keep my PC running if I wanna take a break in THIS UK summer humidity? Get out of my face.
Are the other games like this?
