I read slaying the vampire conqueror by Carissa Broadbent and I found it okay. It was by no means bad but also not something I'd go crazy over.

I really liked that there was no annoying lust getting in the way every two seconds, that it leaned more on plot than romance and that the mmc wasn't some cringe edgelord who is written forcefully "hot".

Now this is my first time reading this author and I heard that the serpent and the wings of night have some cringe dialogue between the mcs. Should I read more from that author? Are her other works better or worse? And any other authors who write similarly to the points I mentioned I liked in this book?

So, obviously, he’s not human in this situation. I think that’s a given. But I’m looking for books with a scene where the FMC has a super embarrassing moment where her friends can tell she just performed fellatio because her mouth is a certain color but she has no idea

I’ve never been one who favors audiobooks, but I have 3 credits on audible (free trial + forgot to cancel on time lol). Please send your best audiobooks! I know it’s a different genre but I really enjoyed listening to Lights Out if that helps. I think the narrators did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life and making it a more immersive experience.

I finished the Dearly Beloathed duology this week and I can’t stop gushing about it.

The writing is equal parts hilarious as it is beautiful. The balance between romance and plot is great. The smut is great!

I love the main characters, but also the side characters. I was actually sad when the critique cricket died.

I love the world building and magic system, it’s nothing too complicated but still really enjoyable.

I heard that this story is based off the fanfic Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love, which is written by the same author. And while I definitely recognize aspects within the story (like the character archetypes and the pagan/english folklore references), to me it was a completely different story. Which I really enjoyed because I didn’t already know where the plot was going. In comparison to a story like Alchemised, which is identical in plot progression to its fanfic counterpart Manacled.

Coincidentally, I read DMATMOOBIL as something light after Manacled, and I read this duology after Alchemised. The humour and romance healed me after all the hurt 😭

Keri Lake is just incredible. I DEVOURED this duology. Jericho might just be one of the best MMCs I've ever read. His devotion to Farryn, just everything about that man was the absolute fucking BEST. He was so unhingeddddddd and I could NOT get enough of him...

The way Keri writes is so much FUN. I had read Nocticadia before this and was in love with it, but now reading these books, I might just have to read everything Keri has ever written...

If anyone has any recommendations of MMCs that are like Jericho (and lets be real, Devryck too) in any way, y'all, I'm listening...

I finished {duskbound} recently and though i enjoyed the read, there’s quite a few plotholes or stuff that doesn’t make a lot of sense or feels unserious. Would like to see of anybody else felt the same way or or you have a different perspective en these:

They laid out this “is laryk telling the truth or manipulating us” plot line while fía could simply get into his mind and command him to tell the truth. Same with the Soleil couple. Fía and aether just trusted their word. Why not check by having them confirm if they’re telling the truth?

The theory that the king is a siphon is solely based on a simple rational inference that has no proof whatsoever other than “nobody knows the kings tether!” yet everybody including the general just decides to accept it as the absolute truth? And adapt the entire war strategy to it?

Fía being the heir is also simply an inference based on 3 or 4 facts. No proof. No taking fía to see the queen, nothing. She’s immediately assumed the next queen despite being a foreigner that comes from enemy lands and just because aether did 2+2 after reading some old records? Unserious.

Why was the land in Riftdremar not drained of it’s essence like umbrathia? When they go back to riftdremar it is described as blooming and we know nature depends on essence, why not drain an unhabited land with nobody to resist?

What did Valkan did the Strykka for? What was the goal there? Imagine he succeeded. Was he planning to join the umbra? Was it just to take the piss? I know it was useful for the book to have a moment where the council sees that he’s a fraud and that fía is a duskbound, but it feels completely out of character that he would go through it..

Hi guys, I’m looking for a book or duology (preferably nothing more than two books, unless it’s a series that each book is about different characters). Where the FMC is a vampire, she could be a newly turned vampire or has been a vampire for 100s of years etc. I don’t have a major preference.

I do prefer books that have historical aspects, so nothing set in the modern era preferably.

I really would like a FMC that is cold, and isn’t super up front with her emotions. I also love when the love interest is the opposite, so the love interest is super bubbly and just overall very friendly.

I’m okay with more major tropes, and really love books that have a tortured heroine, especially if that relates to her overall personality / actions. Im okay with books that are on the darker side as long as there is no non-con elements between the FMC and Love Interest.

I recently finished {A Touch of Darkness} and it was a fun read but I wish it was better written. I was annoyed by the excessive smirking (Hades and the rest of the guys) and shivering (Persephone) and it happened so frequently to the point of feeling like a weird drinking game. I was also frustrated with the immaturity of Persephone, and at times even Hades, and the dumb miscommunications in their relationship.

I really enjoy lush, descriptive prose and my favorite series is {Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey}, just to give an idea of what I'm ideally looking for.

I'll start this review by saying that this the 3rd book of a series, but I didn't know that when I requested the ARC. So, I read book 1 and 2 and while this review is mostly about book 3 there are no spoilers and if you like the feel of this book, you can find books 1 and 2 now.

(Sherwood Witches series by Avery Flynn}

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

This is book three of what I assume will be a 5 book series (one for each sister) of the Sherwood Witches Series. Book one Witcha Gonna Do featured the youngest sister Tilda and introduced the reader to the what the author describes as “Witchydom”, or the world in which our characters reside. it’s earth, as we know it, but with all the supernatural elements out there in the open; witches, shifters, gnomes, trolls, pixies, satyrs, centaurs – each book builds on the world, introducing new magical beings as the story progresses. Book two Head Witch in Charge is about the second eldest sister but also the one who will be carrying the family magic on as her legacy. It’s usually the first born who gets to carry this responsibility, but for some reason it skipped the eldest and landed on Leona. The book picks up almost exactly from the end of Tilda’s story and furthers the adventure to the next phase. Leona and her paramour, Erik, are set on a road trip to hide the powerful grimoire of ancient spells that were the key to the plot of the first book. Near the climax of the their journey, they have a run in with Darius Aetos, the head of the Aetos outlaw shifter clan and that’s when we are formally introduced to our main character, Effie Sherwood, the eldest of the Sherwood sisters and the one who was bypassed as the head of the next generation of Sherwoods.

And this is where we start book three, Hexy Beast, the beast in question is obvious Darius. He’s just your typical tatted up motorcycle gang Alpha leader who is all gruff and angry. He’s being threatened by his no 2 for leadership of the pack, his pack is cursed so they can hardly survive without resorting to various criminal endeavors and his aunt is convinced he has a fated mate, who not only a witch but a PARTICULAR witch named Effie that has hitched a ride with him to his pack hideout. Of course, typical romantasy shenanigans occur – we’ve got fated mates, we got grumpy / sunshine, we got shared proximity, and off we go.

I didn’t realize that this was the third book in the series so I had to catch up with the first books. These are not standalone novels as the overall narrative arc carries on from book to book. While Tilda and Leona do not feature in this book, as their story has been told, we do get some more stories and insight about the other two sisters – Bea and Juniper. Juniper’s story will be next in the series and it’s quite obvious that Bea’s story will be the grand finale. I really do like how this series is structured. The story is solid and each book follows a distinct, yet different, path. Each sister’s adventure is completely different just as their personality, magic use and love interest are unique. The author does an excellent job of creating an entire new story for each couple It’s unabashedly following all the tropes, out loud and out front, but sometimes this is exactly what I want to have in a book. I want a good time, I want the romance to follow all the proper steps and I want my happy ending!

Flynn does not shy away from the spicy bits either I am not a fan of yearning and waiting around for the characters to realize their undying love for each other before they act on what is some very hot sexual tension. Look, that’s just how life works. Sometimes you are drawn to someone and you want to connect physically and that’s all right. Lets not slut shame here – these love interests are HOT, our female protagonists are older, late twenties to early thirties, they are not unfamiliar with getting what their body wants, even if they think it is likely a bad decision at the time.

This book is the best of the series so far in terms of character and plot and the overall flow of the books. Not that there is anything off with the first two books, but now that the laws of the world have been established, we know who the bad guys are and what is at stake, the story just really moves along. The stakes are getting higher with each successive book and we keep being introduced to new magic and subplots and characters that are just so fascinating and fun We have the 300 year old witch who is really into grunge, the unicorn shifter who loves lucky charms, the vegan trolls who love a good game, the satyrs and their amazing hospitality. I’m looking forward to seeing what sort of creatures and magical realms will show up in the next books!

I gave this book a 4.5/5 stars in Storygraph, but the series continues to improve and the overall series may end up ranking higher. I highly recommend this as a fun fantasy romance romp.
