I adore Sadamoto’s Manga adaptation of NGE, as someone who got into Evangelion close to two years ago now (when I was just seventeen), I even considered it to be my favourite re-telling of NGE for a while. But with my most recent read-through, there’s so many glaring issues that just don’t make sense to me, and I fear on subsequent read-through’s they’ll only become more abundantly clear.

The Characters themselves are stripped of some defining traits, and though they are still themselves in foundation, some characters feel hollow compared to the original Series iteration. I always adored how Sadamoto was able to bring Rei and Kaji to the forefront of the story, even Gendo more so than the Series, but the price paid are weaker versions of characters like Asuka and Misato.

I’ll be using Misato as an example, as I feel I can actually articulate what I mean while sounding (somewhat) smart and not like the total idiot I am.

The Manga has a very healthy dynamic between Misato and Shinji compared to the anime, it’s a joy to see Misato achieve becoming a motherly figure for Shinji as she had failed to do in the anime, but it makes so many moments seem out of character for both her and Shinji for it. After Rei II’s death, we don’t get the infamous “This is all I can do for you” scene between Shinji and Misato, in fact there is hardly any Sexual Frustration in Misato’s character whatsoever, not only does this make Shinji’s rejection of staying in Misato’s apartment just seem strange and un-explained, but it makes the “Grown-Up Kiss” she has with Shinji in her final moments seem less like her facing the truth, and rejecting the illusion of being a Mother in favour of pushing Shinji towards his REAL mother (EVA01), and more like “Welp, I’m dyin’ time to French-kiss a child.” (Exactly how certain people like to simplify her actions in EOE)

The ending too, it just seems like such a cop-out. Everything is back to normal pre-Second impact save for some funny Eva statues, like what? I assume that’s exactly why Sadamoto didn’t care to truly give some key characters their well deserved developments and tragedies, because we’d be getting a happy ending anyway.

I’ve gone from totally adoring the Manga to now viewing it as an obligatory “Happier Ending” for Evangelion to purely satiate those who didn’t want the Post-Third Impact world. Can anyone else relate?

I’ve seen them called monoliths, obelisks, panels, and many other things. This seems like a bit of a useless post but I’m still not quite sure considering I’ve heard many different things.

I read the last chapter and thought if everyone was revived then why didn't I see misato and rei. Are they really dead?

After seeing “Evangelion: Death & Rebirth” for the first time a few months ago, followed by “Evangelion: Death(True)² & Rebirth” in theaters tonight - I’ve gotta say, it’s a must watch! Why have so many fans said that it should be skipped, citing it as a “recap” movie? It’s really not! It’s such a powerfully edited piece of work that hammers home the themes of NGE without retreading the whole series. I feel so many fans would walk away with a clearer understanding of the series if they watched this film. Not only that, but it really can't be watched if you haven't seen the series (as evident by the audience "WTF" responses at my theater).

On a side note, I liked the editing on this version more than the original theatrical version! It's a touch snappier, though the subtitles for the "Rebirth" portion occasionally overlapped other text and didn't even show up at all during some portions.)

Anyway, I can’t sing this film's praises enough! It's so good!

I can't find any information anywhere on how tall Asuka is once thr curse is lifted and she ages, shes obviously gotten taller but I cannot find any sources indicating how tall though...

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction?

Well, minus what I believe is one card.

The story is that someone at this one LGS that I frequent happened to buy 3 of the same Evangelion Starter deck but only took kept 1 card and put the rest of the deck in the store’s bulk bin. Crazy as it sounds, yes I basically got a deck minus 1 card entirely for free

So obviously Death True2 + Rebirth plays tonight in US theatres - unfortunately I'm not in the USA, and all UK showings are showing the Revival of Evangelion double bill of "Death true2 + End of Evangelion."

What I would love to know is that if Rebirth is ACTUALLY Rebirth and not the first 27 minutes of End of Evangelion Episode 25' attached on to Death true2.
Obviously the old Manga DVD had the first 27 minutes of EoE tagged onto Death, but this isn't Manga, it's GKIDS.

There's some voice acting differences and different animation cuts, that would stand out if you've seen EoE.

If any US people could come back to this thread when they've seen it and confirm for me, I'd surely appreciate it!
