Hi all! I'm a still very much a beginner at Esperanto. I've been frustrated that every scan I can find of the Unua Libro in English ("Dr. Esperanto's International Language") is too poor a resolution to make out the vocabulary section at all. The higher quality versions I've found are modern recreations, not scans, which don't put the vocabular in the same multi-column easy-to-read layout. Can anyone point me to a better copy?

For context: I'm Japanese, and I make original lo-fi songs in Esperanto. I got into Esperanto through "Lumis Eterne," a song from ARIA The ORIGINATION — I fell for the sound of it first, and only later realized it was in Esperanto. That's what led me to start my own Esperanto vocal songs, and about a year ago I started a YouTube channel to share them.

This one is from the early days of the channel, but it remains one of my favorites, so I wanted to introduce it here. It's called "Sakura In the Breeze" (the title is in English, but the vocals are in Esperanto). It's a track that carries the gentle chill of spring — soft petals and a quiet breeze, offering a calm little escape.

I always make these on my own and rarely get to hear what others think, so I'd be really glad for any honest impressions.

I’m a singer/composer currently studying (postgrad) in France and I'm looking for a poet or librettist who is comfortable writing in Esperanto to realize an idea i've had for quite a while now.

To give kinda an idea of what I'm going for, the specific idea I have is a song cycle based on the five stages of grief and I’m hoping to find someone who can tap into that with possibly an absurdist or darkly humorous edge. I’m not looking for something super flowery or self-serious (at least not 100% of the time) . I really like the works of people like Daniil Kharms, Jules Renard, Lewis Carroll, Guillaume Apollinaire kinda weird text that's sorta humorous at the same time (I'm really open to different ideas though).

A bit about me: I’m a lover of language and music. I'm super into choral and vocal types of music. I think it's a shame that there are so many languages, including constructed ones, that don't really get to see the light of day in music fields, especially in the more "classical" spheres.

If you’re a poet who works in Esperanto (or knows someone who does) and this sounds even slightly interesting, please shoot me a message. I can provide examples of my previous music in DMs and we can talk more in depth about the structure and musical ideas. The music would definitely be performed and I think it could be an incredible learning experience on all fronts !

So I am a complete and total beginner. Have been for ages. Every time I start trying to learn Esperanto I always end up forgetting to keep up with daily study. It's the curse of ADHD. So I've been looking for something to motivate me. I'd seen someone translate the original Super Mario Bros. into Esperanto, and thought it'd be cool to try something similar, but rom-hacking can get pretty complicated, and many games just have way too much text for someone at my level to manage. I needed something simpler.

This year, Elson Basic Readers - Pre-Primer, the very first book starring the famous Dick and Jane, entered the public domain. These are not books I grew up with, but I definitely knew of them, I'd seen the memes floating around. So I thought, oh, hey, a book for little kids! Now there's something that's on my level! Limited vocabulary. Simple grammar. Very repetitive, and therefore extra good for language learning! And maybe, if i don't fumble it too much, I can even contribute in some small way to the General List of Esperanto Things That Exist (the GLoETTE) in the process!

So anyway, at the risk of embarrassing myself, here's the first 14 pages. I plan on doing more of this book bit by bit, while also keeping up with lessons over at lernu. Please tell me if I got anything wrong, i will fix it! Here's the original for reference.

Also if you've got suggestions for resources I could use, send em my way! The resources I've been using so far are Lernu, Glosbe, ViVo, and (to double check my work) Google Translate and DeepL. Though I've since realized that Glosbe has it's own translation tool.

The urge to translate Dick's name a certain way, while certainly felt, was successfully ignored. No matter how this turns out, you can at least give me props for that, eh?
