The date I'm thinking of proposing to her on is only three days after her birthday. Is that too close?

I am worried I will never get used to my ring. The setting is BEAUTIFUL. I wish it was prepared with a smaller center stone. It doesn’t look proportional to my hand and I am worried I’ll feel this way for a long time.

I have the best partner in the world who doesn’t fault me for any of my feelings and insists if I really feel this way he will get a new ring for me. But I feel INSANE about that.

Currently the center stone is 1.51 carats. I wish it was 1 carat. Maybe even smaller. I feel like that sounds so dumb, but I have small fingers and I am not a fan of large stones. I don’t wear makeup when not on the clock (I am a wedding singer funny enough) and I don’t often have my nails done. I think it makes my hands look bigger/thicker than they do without the ring on.

I really do love my setting. It is glittery and vintage inspired and I wouldn’t change a thing. I just wish the whole thing could proportionally shrink.

It is also a hair too tight on my finger which is definitely adding to my sensory anxiety. It is sized at 5.25 but I think needs to be a tiny bit bigger. At least in this summer heat it does.

My proposal was so beautiful and thoughtful and somehow (while being the most aware of everything person in the world who is famously impossible to surprise) my partner pulled off a MAJOR surprise. I had no makeup on and was totally shell shocked. He hired our band (trumpets, saxophone, etc) to come around the corner at Grand Central Station on what I thought was a casual commute. It was so romantic, but my body went into shock I think (lol) (but actually) and I am still trying to regulate back to normal. (It’s been almost a week now).

I am also pretty disappointed because we don’t have photos of the proposal and I was so dizzy from the emotions that I wish I could relive it and see it captured.

Anyway, I am mostly so happy and in love, but also ANXIOUS and overstimulated and sensory overloaded and this ring is SO BIG AND SPARKLY and I feel like I’m getting looks from strangers and I need some form of support from this thread whether it is to calm tf down or seriously consider downsizing.

Please be gentle with either side of what you choose to say, I clearly can’t handle much else right now lol

Help: engagement ring design

Looking to design an engagement ring but budget is under $4k including the diamond
I found a loose diamond I want from facet land for under $1000 it’s a 2 carat marquise lab VVS1 colour D but the issue is I can’t find many jewellers who set loose diamonds!!
So far I’ve got

Anyone has any suggestions? My partner thinks it’s a bad idea to buy a loose diamond but the mark up is INSANE at the jewellery shops for the same lab I want…it’s going for $3000-4000 alone
PS I am in Melbourne

Engagement Party Gift??

I have an engagement party this weekend and I don’t know if I should bring a gift. I’ve never attended an engagement party. I asked my parents and my dad said he always gave my cousins $100 or so when they had an engagement party but this was in the 80s-90s. Google says no gift, small gift like a nice photo frame/album, champagne (my friend and her fiancé are not the drinking type), or cash/check ranging from $25-$150.

The bride is my former coworker and we’ve kept in touch since both parting that place of employment. We’re not best best friends but we do still invite each other to parties (birthdays, Super Bowl, barbecues, etc.)

She said that because her and her fiancé do not plan on getting married for about 2-3 years since they want to budgeting and save to have the wedding they really want. She said the reason for the engagement party was wanting to celebrate their love and engagement now since they will have a long engagement.

I was thinking a card and a check for $50. Not sure if this is appropriate. HELP.

Proposal planning+just got the ring!!!

Hi! First, I just got the ring that I ordered for my partner (both f) and I'm so excited and have to tell someone -- it is literally the most beautiful ring I've ever seen, and the most "her". It was beautiful in the pics but it's so much better in person! It's a rather non-traditional ring (that she approved of - I showed her a few options and she really loved this one, that has inlay stone instead of a center stone). I can't believe I need to keep it a secret for a couple months, Idk how I'm gonna not tell her -- so I'm telling you instead!!! Any tips about how to hold it in will be appreciated:-)))

Second: I'm planning to propose in a natural spot that she loves a lot and that is very special to us (I would have rather proposed on top of a mountain or something more dramatic, but I just know she would love it the most there). We're very chill, outdoorsy people, and she's quite an introvert. I'm wondering how to still make it special. I could possibly ask a friend to come early and prepare something - but what? I wouldn't want to have flower petals etc on the ground or anything else that might be flammable or littering, but I would want to make it look really special. I'd love any ideas!

Ps. I will bring some of her favorite foods too... That always goes a long way ;-)

Proposal Advice Engagement purgatory

Okay honestly… we are about to go shopping in the next few weeks for the first time and I’m already struggling knowing I probably won’t have the ring on my finger until 2027 based on financials and just other things we’ve talked about. How did you deal with the waiting period after shopping? I feel insane that I’m constantly thinking about it at this point and I don’t even know what ring I want yet LOL does everyone get to a point in their relationship where you’re just tired of being a girlfriend? Haha

Wedding Planning How to manage two different shoe heights on wedding day?

Hi all! I know ppl will switch out of their heels and either go into flats or barefoot for the reception but how does that work when your dress is hemmed to your heel height?

I’m wanting a kitten heel so I can walk better for the ceremony, and then want to switch to flats for the reception so I can boogie. I have a big ball gown/princess dress that will have a petticoat type thing under the skirt

Will that be too much of a height difference or is there a way to be able to do both shoes?

Proposal Advice Proposal locations?

Hoping this fits here, my bf and I have been together for almost 3 years now and are looking to get engaged next year. We are planning a trip to Italy with his family. He says it’s more so up to me if I’d like to get proposed to in Italy. I’m conflicted on this. I’m a sentimental person, so I kinda envisioned the proposal spot to be somewhere closer to home (at least in the home state) so it can be a place to revisit. BUT ITALY?! It would be a beautiful place to be proposed to. I don’t know if I’ll ever go back in my life though 😅 but I also think how often would we visit the place we got proposed to even if it’s in our home state anyway? His parents are aware we might get engaged on the trip and have no issues with that so I’m not worried about “crashing” the family trip. I wonder though if when we get engaged if it should be more intimate trip with the two of us? It would be nice to have his family to take nice pictures. Not sure if anyone has this dilemma. Just looking for thoughts and opinions!

IG announcement song recs?

We can't decide what song to use with our engagement announcement post on Instagram! We're looking for something older (60s/70s) and romantic but upbeat, preferably referencing marriage/engagement/love.

Do you have any recommendations, or songs you've seen others use that fall into this category?

Some close examples would be Nothing Can Change This Love by Sam Cooke, Signed Sealed Delivered by Stevie Wonder, I Do I Do I Do by ABBA.

2nd marriage for us both. My nails looked like shit but he absolutely NAILED the ring. Can't wait for my 2nd chance at forever.

We're both coming into this with lessons learned and have already worked through hard stuff (blending a family)

He proposed before a Billy Strings concert on Sat and it was perfection. Don't have a super great pic to capture the filigree scroll work but the mounting and stone are 100% me.

Ring Advice Whats the closest youve ever come to losing your engagement ring after getting engaged?

I took my ring off while cleaning my apartment and completely forgot where I put it. About 20 minutes later I looked down at my hand and realized it was gone. I ended up finding it on the bathroom counter, but those few minutes had me checking everywhere. What's the closest youve ever come to losing your engagement ring?

Wedding Planning Timeline help both for the morning of and for the photographers!

Hey all!
My photographer company has a built-in hub to plan for shot lists, time of each event, etc.

My wedding starts at 5pm on a Friday with the ceremony being 15-30 minutes long (will probably shoot for 30 minutes in case I'm late or something happens).

Then from 5:30-6:30 will be a less than 5 min travel to and from a park where we will do photos during cocktail hour

From 6:30pm to 11pm is the reception including dinner, toats, dancing, etc.

My question is more for the getting ready/pre-ceremony photo timeline...

I want photos of: bride and bridal party getting ready, MOB helping bride with final touches, etc.
Groom and groomsmen getting ready, FOG helping groom with final touches, etc.

BUT before the ceremony, I'm doing a first look with my dad which mean there will be tears and my makeup will get a bit messed up. Meaning I will need some retouching before walking down the aisle.

What timeline should I give for all of that to the photographers (we have two, one will be taking my get ready photos, one will be taking grooms get ready photos, both with be taking first look with my dad)?

He booked us a bnb that we had stayed at back in October 2024. It’s an old Airstream RV with a private patio and hot tub and we absolutely love it for that, but it was also where everything truly, finally fell into place for us after we’d been broken up and trying to find our way back to each other. He took me out to dinner and timed it so we got back at sunset. There were a couple bouquets of roses and a bottle of wine sitting out and white rose petals scattered all around. He read me a letter and then asked me :) AND he booked photographer so we’ll get pics back in about a week🥹❤️ He nailed it!!!

Hello everyone!

Oh im so so so happy. I am finally engaged! 🙌 I am in love with my ring! However, I am not sure what kind of band I should go with? Can you you post your own rings especially if you havs a marquise, so I can get inspired ✨️ thank you!

My ring is: 2.67 ct. Lab grown 14k white gold band.

Idk the rest of the details 😅 i didn't bother asking because im in love with it so I dont really care.

Only down fall I can think of is that I wish the pointy prongs were V-shaped, but it's okay.

Help with using dogs for engagement

We have 2 dogs and they will be a surprise at the location waiting for us. I’m having a hard time thinking of how to use them.

Ideas I have are getting them tuxedo outfits to look dainty. Or having them run up to us, with ring on their body and I kneel down to pet them, then propose. Or having them wear shirts that say “marry me” “say yes” or similar.

I can provide details on the location and other things as well if anyone has recommendations on best dog use.

It’s the only surprise I really have going for me so I want it to be special! The proposal is something she knows is coming, just not when or where. But the dogs are. A must for her. Having the dogs not with us and suddenly appear on our day out will give me the best surprise element. Once that happens she’ll know it’s coming.

Ring issues- advice needed

Post image
43 Upvotes

Recently engaged and we have had so many issues with our ring. I just want advice on what you guys would do and any experiences with similar rings!

So we got enaged in May. The ring needed to be sized up a bit like 0.25 a size. The jeweller sized my finger wrong increased the ring 1.5 sizes. So it then had to be sized back down. Got the ring back and about 10 days later a diamond fell out. So I sent it away again. Got it back with a Crack in the gold. We took it back to where it was purchased and they decided to give me a brand new ring (same design). Now we have lost another diamond after less then a week.

It does have a halo and many small diamonds but I feel like it is just very poorly made. They have offered us a whole new ring and design. Should we just get a solitary diamond? Will this just continue to happen with the halo?

Here is a picture of the new rings that was not sized or anything prior to any issues. (1.25 carat total. Center diamond is 0.75carat and 0.5 carat for halo in 14k white gold)

Can post the missing stones and Crack as well in comments.
