Hi all,
I used a couple of posts to help me plan my own golden visa application and I thought I'd give back to the community and share some extra knowledge.
I am in the property investor category and was eligible for a 10 year visa.
4th of May 2026: Lodged the application through Golden Cube with all supporting documents. I received the pre-approval on the same day but was outside the UAE, so it came with a link to a form I was supposed to fill out and submit once I was back in the UAE. Fair dinkum. WARNING: I wish someone had told me this. I am a dual citizen German and Australian. Doing things prim and proper, I sent them a copy of both. This would cause issues later on. I'll explain below.
13th of July 2026: Back in the UAE and I entered on the German passport. Why? Not sure, I was tired and I grabbed whichever was on top in my bag. WARNING: if you are a dual citizen you will want to think this through. Keep reading. I filled out the Golden Cube form to continue the golden visa process. at 6am. By 10.52am I received the email from Golden Cube that my golden visa had been pre-approved and that I needed to do my medical at Al Baraha Smart Medical Center. It also said that I need to cancel my current UAE visa but I had none as I was just on a visitor visa. Fast forward to 1.30pm and I'm at the medical center. They took my bloods and did a chest X-ray. I was back in an Uber at 1.54pm. Unbelievably fast and efficient. I received the medical results via email by 3.53pm. Went to sleep at 4pm due to jet lag and a 3am work call I couldn't get out of.
14th of July 2026: I woke up to see a few emails received at 4.16pm the previous day (minutes after the medical certificate coming through). My visa had been approved and the e-visa was attached. At 4.32pm on Monday I received the Golden Cube email with the emirates ID application which required me to go to any ICP Customer Happiness Centre to get my biometrics done. At 4.50pm on Monday I also received the email that was eligible to sponsor my family. Anyhow back to 21st of July 2026 - 10.43am I receive an email with my private health insurance details. I had ordered this through Golden Cube. I am at ICP around 8.30am and am in and out the door in about 10 minutes. My Emirates ID was approved before 9am. It was printed by 3pm and handed over to Zajel for Delivery to Golden Cube at 7.41pm. I tracked the delivery online, you get the tracking number on the ICP website where you track your EID.
16th of July 2026: I received the whatsapp message from Golden Cube that my EID had been received. This was around 10am. The whole process is finished. Great

I picked up my EID around 11.30am and make my way to RTA to convert my driver's license. This is where things got painful. The rules for exchanging your driver's license are random. If I had a German driver's license (which I technically do but lost the card a few years ago and I haven't been back to Germany in 14 years to arrange a replacement) then my citizenship would be irrelevant and I could change it to a UAE license. However, I have a Queensland drivers license and wanted to exchange that. RTA lady says no can do - Australian licenses can only be exchange by Australian nationals. I am confused and show her both passports. My pleading that I am a dual citizen falls and deaf ears. Go an change your EID. I was at RTA at Al Khafif and just went over to the Al Yalayis counter (typing centre) to get it changed. After a short wait a gentleman changed my citizenship on the EID to Australian after me sending him copies of both passports via whatsapp. AED 220 for the pleasure. I didn't get a new Emirates ID card. So my card still says Nationality: German. My electronic profile and card on the ICP app changed over to Australian. You can't be both in their system. Bizarro. The change only came through late in the day.
17th of July 2026: 8.45am The lady at RTA asks for my EID and says I cannot exchange my license since it is Australian and I am German. I highlight that I changed it yesterday and that online it says Australian. She repeats that my card says German. I repeat that it was changed and that the Mohammed (legendary guy) from Al Yalayis said she could process it now. She rolls her eyes and goes through the motions. I walk out with my new Emirati license 30 minutes later.
19th of July 2026: I'm flying back home Brisbane. I use the Australian passport which my EID is tied to at the smart gate. No go. I use the German passport which I entered on at the smart gate. No go. I am asked to go to manual processing. The guy at manual processing types frantically into his computer and after a few minutes asks me why I changed my citizenship on my EID. Oh boy... I tell him about the drivers license and he asks me why the RTA lady didn't want to convert my license when I have an Australian passport. I wish I knew.
Overall Golden Cube was good. Very good actually. Four days is pretty fast by any standard. If you're a dual citizen then less is more, pick one, don't tell them about the other and stick to it but make sure you hold the drivers license of that country because you won't be able to convert it otherwise.
I hope this helps some people.
