Today i experienced a reaction to a dog in a restaurant so i went outside with inhaler and settled the bill, without finishing meal. I requested the owner call me. When he did i calmly explained that it was understandable they'd caved to dog culture but i had a reaction and woukdnt be returning. I said i was sorry as i loved their food and it was a great place and wished him luck.

He just called to say he was fed up with badly begaved dogs and that my call had given him the push he needee to have a dog free policy and offered me a free lunch. I declined the free lunch and congratulated him on seeing sense.

I’m just wondering if anyone knows. I’m pretty scared of bigger dogs. Especially off leash ones that run toward me and are barking. They act offended when I’m scared? Like wtf do they expect when they have 2 big dogs that outnumber and outweigh me? Like ya I’m scared.

IMO: put the dog down. chances are 1% it will go to another home, 99% it will end up in the shelter for my nutter mother to pick up and hoard.

Euthanasia is the best option. I also think this way about young dogs.

I honestly think it's absolutely disgusting how normalized feeding animals human food has become. We are scarce on resources already, and thousands-if not millions-of people go to sleep hungry each night. Famine is prevalent across the world today, especially in war-torn countries. It makes me so angry to see dogs having gourmet, restaurant-level seafood boils and steak cooked for them with spices, herbs, and sauces, while my human brethren still passes away due to famine almost daily.

Overconsumption is a huge issue which is affecting our environment and damaging our planet. Agriculture and factory farming should be reduced-but we have human mouths to feed, and with our population growing every decade, we must ensure there is enough meat production to sustain most people. Prices are rising, and methane released into the air by cattle is often too much to handle for our atmosphere. I think you guys are getting where I'm going with this-we do NOT need to have entire industries specializing in gourmet ground beef, turkey, chicken, etc. for dogs. Dogs literally consume fecal matter, rotting corpses, roadkill, vomit, and even dirty diapers and plastic. They are scavengers, damnit! They do not need nor deserve to have our resources wasted on sustaining them when they are just fine having leftovers too.

I don't understand why human beings must compete with useless beasts for resources. It's so dystopian and disgusting.

Whenever I am meeting new people or trying to make new friends. As soon as they mention owning a dog, I immediately get the ick. If they show me a picture of their dog, I literally feel like I need to scowl and show disgust, and I think they feel it too, but they don't say anything. So I just fake a smile, and I'm like, "Oh yeah, cool" when in reality, all I want to do is walk away from them. Why is it that these nutters always think that I will like their disgusting mutt and fawn over it like it's my deity. I don't do that with my pets unless someone mentions that they have the same pet that I have. It's so fucked up and pathetic and it makes no sense at all. Sorry about the long tangent, I am just so sick and tired of these shitheads (literally) always thinking that I will go gaga over their shitbeasts.

So as you all know, my neighbors that recently moved in have talked their way in with 2 small EmOtIoNAl SuPpORt dogs. Ughghhh they yapp all day when their owners are gone and they are killing the nice lawns here. I talked to our other neighbor today who lives right next door to them. And they drive her nuts!! She hates the the smell on their shared lawn and the constant barking!! Not to mention the dog turds and the fact that they come on to her porch and jump up on her. She's gonna complain to the landlord! But guys, she's also SICK AND TIRED of seeing dogs in spaces like grocery and clothing stores where they don't belong!!! The tides are turning!! Finally!!

I want to give some hope to anyone that may be living with dogs they don't want to be, have partners that want/have dogs, or are worried about being in a situation where they may have to be around people they love that have dogs. Hardcore dog lovers can change their minds. As hard as it is to believe. It's possible. It might be a rare occurrence, and this a personal account so maybe take this with a grain of salt but:

I'm 28 and up until I was in my early 20s, I was a hardcore dog lover. In every sense of the word. We had a family dog and I let the dog sleep in my bed, lick my face, even fed it off the same utensils as me. EUGH. I know. Nasty. I wanted a future where I had a bunch of dogs too. I wanted a huge pack like Ceasar Millan totes around. I saw no issue with dogs in public places like stores, buses, or even restaurants. The more dogs the merrier!! I even went as far as saying dogs lives were equal to that of a human's, if not more important. So yes, I was in deep.

But my attitude towards dogs began to shift in my early 20s. It wasn't an exact event that happened. I wasn't attacked by a dog or anything (though I have had family members attacked). I began to realize how...unclean dogs were. It started with me saying I would just want a low-shedding dog like a poodle or maltese. But then I realized that dog hair wasn't the only thing unclean about a dog. Far from it. Their mouths, their smell, their paws stepping in everything. Dragging their bare butts across the floor...

The final nail in the coffin was the major shift in dog culture over the past few years. When I was younger, I remember only seeing actually service dogs in stores. Well behaved and a rare sight. Now they are everywhere. Everyone is bringing their dogs everywhere and they aren't training them. Which brings me to my final point on dog culture. People dog treat dogs like dogs anymore. It is so normalized to treat them like humans. It genuinely disturbs me. I remember taking the family dog into the vet once with my dad and the vet refered to me as the dog's sibling. It made me cringe to my core.

Nowdays, I cannot stand dogs. I will tolerate them at family and friends houses to be courteous but that is it. I don't pet them or fawn over them. At most they'll get a small pat on the head but then it's straight to the sink to wash my hands.

So yeah. It is possible for a dog lover to turn into a dog free person.

There should be an official board that oversees the training and certification of service animals. Not like any other dog training academy either, I mean the same type of board that would oversee nurses and doctors. I DO NOT mean to say that dogs are the same as human medical staff but they should be held to a similar standard if they are to be treated as living medical equipment as their handlers claim them to be.

None of this "I trained them myself and bought a vest online." I feel like somewhere in the future, unregulated service animals is something people will look back at and say "We seriously allowed that?!"

Because I'm in this sub, I always get recommended posts from dog groups. I've noticed consistent types of posts, which I think really encapsulate the experience of dog ownership.

1. Asking "Is this aggressive?" with a video of a borderline feral dog thrashing, biting (usually referred to as "nibbling") or lunging at children, other pets, or fellow dogs, followed by tons of comments letting the owner know the dog is just "being playful" or "saying hi!"

2. Lamenting all the hardship a dog is causing them (astronomical vet bills, destroyed belongings and homes, inability to leave the house because of a dog's anxiety or needs) and asking what they should do, followed by a chorus of nutters telling them they either need to A. just get the dog more training or B. stick the dog in a crate all day. (What's the point of even having a dog then?) But under NO CIRCUMSTANCES can you rehome the dog, no matter how much it's destroying your life, or you're evil!

3. Freaking out about something the dog got into or ate and wondering if they should take them to the vet.

4. Posting a video of or describing something gross the dog does (licking their genitals, humping everything insight) and asking "Does anyone else's doggo do this? So silly!!!"

All in all, the more I hear from dog owners, the more I think dog ownership sounds miserable and that they've deluded themselves into thinking they're carrying out some divine purpose when in reality, they're shackled to an animal that's destroying their life and making them miss out on a life of freedom, cleanliness, fulfilling human relationships, and bliss.

Over the years, I have seen so many videos of service dog owners "schooling Karens", and I've noticed some extremely common themes from all of those videos. For one.... The "Karen" in question is almost always reasonable, as these videos usually occur in food establishments where these dog owners are abusing the ADA laws to the absolute max.

Its extremely obvious that these "service dog" owners get a dopamine rise out of bringing their dogs to the most inappropriate places possible, and then going "erm actually 🤓👆 its technically legal so your technically a horrible person, so HAH". They think your disagreement with ADA laws is like a catch22 for your moral being.

Also, if the camera didn't show owners face every once and a while, you would think its the same person in every video. The cadence of their voice, the condescending tone, the fact you can tell they base their entire personality around their "trauma", they are literally all the same person.

Why is this? Because a service dog is like a dream come true for that specific sub-type of human.

1. With a service dog, their "trauma" gets to be special and unique now.
2. Already existing victimhood mentality now becomes a visual spectacle
3. Receive Attention from strangers constantly, which they can pretend they don't want so they get some twisted illusion of feeling like a celebrity and having moral superiority.

It feels like a cult, like their entire identity revolves around being a victim service dog owner and parroting their hygeine-compromising laws that they memorized and see as the cults moral scripture.

I think there is still a very thin use for service dogs, technology for blindness has come so far, but there are still advantages of seeing eye dogs that technology simply cant replicate yet. I also think an for example an 80 year old man that has used service dogs his entire life, deserves to live out the rest of his life the way he has always known it.

That being said, These laws are so clearly in need of a major overhaul, but with dog culture so overwhelmingly prevalent, I think we will see dogs granted voting rights before we see a helpful update to ADA service dog requirements.

Its been warm in the UK with very little rain this summer.

I went for a run this evening and there was various piss stains all over the pavement

I noticed in hotter countries (Italy) dog walkers wash the piss off the pavements using a bottle of water

Could the UK lot take note please :)

It’s ridiculous that I’m responsible for maintaining it while they come and urinate and defecate all over it nonstop every day 24 hours a day. The grass cannot take it. I have built-in sprinklers I water regularly and it’s not enough. There are visible yellow patches now that were not there a week ago, where the grass is literally burning from dog urine. Every time the sprinklers are on it reeks it so bad. It smells exactly how you would imagine. Disgusting dog smell mixed with feces and urine. It’s repugnant.

I just don’t understand why dog owners have to come to other people’s properties like why can’t they do this crap, no pun intended, where they live?

I did, however, put up a fence blocking them from accessing the grass on the house side. Zero yellow spots. Grass is relatively healthy even though right now we are in the midst of a heat wave and drought.

Gee wonder why?

I hate dogs, and I hate those dog disease that the world is afflicted with.

I also hate how these people use these animals to feed their sick antisocial and narcissistic tendencies of having power over complete strangers with feces and urine

So I came upon a next-door thread where someone wanted to rehome a 10 year old pitbull and there were at least 8 replies - "you are a terrible person" , "did your mom rehome you when you were 10", "pets are for life", "disgusting", "the dog is going to be so sad"...etc. All of them were shaming the guy. I don't reply there because my actual name is shown and these people are crazy, but I have all these thoughts I would love to say.

1. Where was this insight when some of you were taking the dog from its biological mother and first human family?

2. This is directly contributing to reasons why people just drop them off on the side of the street.

3. The dog will not be sad, maybe for a day or two until it has secured a few meals from its new owner (I once had to give up a dog to my cousin and a couple weeks later the dog was so happy and content there)

4. Even 10 year old human children are better off living somewhere else if their current home can no longer care for them. I have a great aunt with 21 children, most of whom she couldn't afford to raise so she basically rehomed them and all of them (now older adults) agreed it was the best thing to have happened to them, and these are humans. The dog will be fine.

5. These people are privileged and are speaking from a position of privilege. When we had to rehome our dog, different time and different country, there was literally no other option unless we wanted to die homeless on the street with it.

6. Finally and with emphasis, dogs are not people. They will never have to pay bills, retire, go to college, raise children, get fired, maintain jobs. Circumstances can change where you can no longer continue being a pet owner and the human with all its needs and responsibilities comes first. When we don't support people society is impacted. Moving your dog to another home that can better support it is a win for everyone.

I despite dogs. I don't want to go near them or smell them.

What would you suggest when someone with a dog invites you over to their place?

--Ask for the dog to be outside and hope that they don't trick you by bringing the dog in at some point? And endure the smell, even if the dog isn't in there?

--Tell them you're allergic (which doesn't work well these days since so many dogs are supposedly hypoallergenic).

--Tell them the truth, that you don't like dogs or want to be around them (and risk being targeted and gossiped about among your other friends, family, and neighbors)?

--Or just go and suck it up?

I just got an invite to dinner and not sure what to do or say. It seems like all the options are bad.

There is a local home improvement company that is running an ad that shows two separate clips of a dog staring at the new bath bench installed in a new bath/shower addition. What does a dog have to do with this, at all? That has to be one of the dumbest ads I've seen in a long time.

After years of living next door to 3 mutts that the owners never walked and kept in a dungeon of filth and living in a city crawling with dogs (Novi Sad, Serbia); I Just moved into a condo in Bangkok, Thailand. No barking demons to torment anyone here (see attached):

Anyhow, there are no dogs or pets allowed in this entire structure period! It's strictly enforced for reasons of contamination and noise. Too bad I couldn't post the pics.

Foreign nutters are trying to get their way of course. But here it's just not cool to burden people with a filthy mutt. Dogs are forbidden from all parks, nature reserves, beaches etc. and It's brilliant!

They do have designated dog parks here and there and idiots bring their little dogs to malls in strollers (for attention as we all know) but it's pretty hard to be a dog owner here!

Today, I got bit. The dog ran and I was stupid and approached it from behind and tried grabbing it to stop it. It was scared or whatever. So it whipped around and sunk it's teeth into me. Everyone said it was my fault. I don't understand how it's my fault that a dog bit me. It's not a super deep bite, it was a smaller dog. But it still broke skin. Absolutely no repercussions are coming to the dog. What the hell kinda world is this?

I get it, vegans are annoying. I say this as a plant-based eater for over a decade. I've fallen out with many (especially new) vegans over their constant judgement others and they are almost cult-like behaviour. Similar behaviour as dog owners.

But I'm trying to book a B&B at a seaside town in the UK where they'll be something for breakfast and as a bonus, maybe including an evening meal that won't be a dry piece of toast. I also don't want to stay in a room where the night before three slobbering beasts may have licked and pissed on everything. It's not a massive diva-list, just some easy preferences of a customer.

So I go into their policies and too many are "furry friends welcome and encouraged" but their menu has says something like (ve) = vegan but the only thing on there is a side of mushrooms and not even the fries can be made vegan. Also, can you give them weeks of advance notice.

I did actually find a specific "vegan B&B" but living with them they have "a very anxious rescue dog". Well done on rescuing a dog I guess, but don't bring it in to a place of business where people are eating and sleeping. In fact. One of the reviews said that they had a prem-baby so had to be fed a special formula which included dairy, but the B&B made the (vegan) parents feed the baby in their car due to their zero-tolerance animal product policy. But the very anxious dogs guests are expected to tiptoe around. How does your list of priorities on doing no harm put a dog before a baby that needs medicine? Almost as annoying, this reviewer still gave them a 4 star review.

I will choose a pet free guesthouse over one that's not great dietary restrictions because there's always somewhere to eat and plenty of things are "accidentally vegan" anyway without being specifically catered for. But the needs of a dog seem to come before the needs of humans for some businesses, thus "Dogs welcome. Vegans tolerated".

I see no point in even having one in the first place, most people with dogs do not have them work so they're not doing anything and dogs don't produce anything useful or anything you can sell so you're just (I hate to phrase it this way because it sounds cold but it's true) essentially throwing away money feeding it and getting nothing in return i think part of this is just pets in general but especially with dogs.

Saw a post earlier talking about how OP threw a birthday party for their dog and invited a lot of people, but only one person showed up and their dog was 'devastated' (said dog doesn't even know what a birthday is). Surprisingly, quite a few comments were pointing out how weird and stupid this is, and all of the comments that actually agreed with OP were being downvoted to oblivion. I even saw a lot of people talking about how disgusting it is that people compare/prefer dogs to human children, and how weird and lame terms are like 'doggo' and 'pupper'. I usually don't see pushback like this, but I'm pleased.

In my previous home where I lived the neighbour had a dog that was so aggressive and just wanted to maul you if it wasn’t for the small gate shielding you. The dog was so aggressive that when u arrive home or go outside, it will bark and try to climb the fence to get to you.

Sometimes delivery workers mistakenly leave my stuff at the neighbour’s house and when I go to pick it up, I get so frightened with how aggressive this dog is. It barks so loudly and aggressively that the sound pierces through your ears.

It barks all day and every day. You can’t even enjoy being in your backyard or using your trampoline without the dog sensing you are nearby and aggressively barking.

Earlier today I was able to actually barbecue in my backyard…

My neighbors behind me have at least half a dozen barking demons that will never shut the fuck up if someone just so happens to enter the backyard.

I was prepared this time. I brought out my loud speaker and a baseball bat with a steel barrel.

I played barking noises on full blast on my speaker and if these god damn chihuahuas made a fucking peep I hit that steel drum every time.

Eventually my neighbors got the point… I’m glad I took back my freedom to grill tilapia and mixed vegetables in my backyard… fuckers

i don’t understand why so many people only seem to value animals based on what they can do for humans. whenever someone says they don’t like another common pet the reasons are almost always “they don’t want ME” “they don’t let ME pet them” “they don’t give ME enough affection.” it’s very rarely about the animal itself. they show affection, they do, they just don’t like you.

i’ve experienced the same thing with my own pets. whenever i tell people i have mice or birds, the response is usually “what’s the point?” as if an animal only has value if it entertains YOU, obeys YOU, or gives YOU constant attention, which btw my bird is extremely affectionate. if you think birds are only kept in cages, that’s very telling.

then there are all the tiktoks asking people to share “funny ways your hamster died” with thousands of comments laughing about small pets dying, yet those same people would be horrified if someone joked the same way about a dog. like why is empathy reserved for one species?

and what confuses me even more is how this attitude often extends to other people. i constantly see people insisting they should be able to bring their dogs everywhere, even places where they simply don’t need to be, like supermarkets. they brush off allergies, phobias, sanitation concerns, and simply the fact that not everyone wants to be around dogs. it’s treated as everyone else’s problem to accommodate, but it’s become completely socially acceptable to say you don’t want children in public spaces, on planes, or in restaurants… whatever. but if someone says they don’t want dogs in those same places they’re treated like they’re heartless. i don’t understand why one preference is normalised while the other is considered offensive and apparently makes us bad people.
i genuinely don’t get why dogs seem to receive so much empathy while other animals and even other people’s comfort are often treated as nonexistent.
