Arguably one of the most Iconic D&D icons, the lich is a creature that has suffused the fantasy genre. Be it the whimsical world of Adventure Time or even the anime worlds of series like Overlord, the lich is a uniquely D&D creature that is loved the world over.

Did you know, the word lich was just a generic word meaning a dead person, and while the word was used a few times before D&D, the whole fantasy of it being this immortal being that comes back, and the phylactery were created in D&D?

I'm not a gatekeeper though. I appreciate all liches from every walk of life, and I'd love to hear your lich takes and stories.

Have you used any creative phylacteries? Have you made your own lich with unique details? Have you had to come up with what the lichdom ritual's actual details were?

There's so much depth into this one creature that they are enough to spur on multiple adventures alone! I'd like to just take some time to appreciate the lich and hear everyone's lichy stories.

I flagged this as 5e, and the sub is D&D monsters, but I'd love to hear any stories. I in particular love the MTG liches and continually try to find a good excuse to use them in my worlds.

I’m about to start a dark fantasy/horror campaign that is an amalgamation of Drakkenhein, Ravenloft, and Steinhardts. To kick off the campaign, my group of seven players (I know I know) and I are gonna be in person for a weekend. I was wanting the first “boss battle” to occur this weekend when they are around level 3-4. My question to yall is, what’s your favorite monster that I should write into this campaign??

For a little background on the campaign, these players are from the last town on the continent, as monsters took over 200 years ago when the sun went dark. There is no known humanity beyond the town they are from (but obviously there is duh). The bbeg for this one is a vampire that was the first monster, the result of life extending procedure gone wrong. W that, hopefully yall have enough to give me a cool mini boss yall think would be fun, or just your favorite low level! Thank you!

So I'm planning on running an situation/encounter where my players encounter an elder oblex that operates a library. Both traditional books, but also records of memories it's consumed. I'm wondering, is it too much of a stretch to say it could use magic obtained from the minds it drained? If so, what restrictions?

I'm assuming since lore suggests it likes intelligent creatures, wizard spells would be fine. Bard magic is possible, since it can learn musical instrument proficiency. But things like paladin, cleric, druid and warlock would be "off limits", as they come from an outside source.

I would assign it could use magic it would likely be limited in scope/level, due to a lack of access and practice.

Would the Rune Bear from Elden Ring make for a good homebrew monster?

We did it. We reached the end. Yeah sure, there's higher than CR 20, but really, is there? Who is out there using CR 25 monsters besides the few of us running level 20 campaigns. I personally say it's not D&D if you aren't fighting god in the end, but that doesn't mean I don't understand that the majority of people never will outside of and end of campaign fight.

We did it reddit, we reached 20. I do plan on continuing, but I don't have high hopes for heavy activity.

Hello, I was practicing drawing using existing hombrew monsters, but sadly lost my phone that had the reference image on it, and I was wondering if anyone recognized this monster! I can't remember its name so I can't search it, but I'm pretty sure it was a psionic aberration.

If anyone knows what its called or has the original image saved, that would be huge!!
