Been on the road for almost 8 years, recently turned 34, and feel like it's time to take it slower to put down some roots, make long-term friends, and hopefully find someone to start a family with.

P.S.: I'm a German citizen but don't ever want to return to my home country - I'm visiting family & friends every summer for a month, plus Christmas, and that is all the Germany I need in my life haha

Does anyone know any insurance companies that in your experience have pre authorised with the hospital or clinic. Therefore meaning you didn’t need to pay up front and be re imbursed yourself? Saw a friend get injured yesterday and made me realise how quickly costs can mount up.

By definition, nomads leverage digital technology in order to bring all types of assets with them: culture, relationships, work tools, etcetera.

Everything that's possibly digitalisable and virtualisable is digitalised by us, simply because that reduces immensely baggage size & weight, and sometimes the risks of losing it, with a significant impact on our quality of life.

After some years in this lifestyle though, i found i needed to devote some time to analog activities. I won't expand on the reason or what does an "analog activity" mean, confident that many can understand what i mean.

Examples could be knitting, pottery, analog pictures, woodwork, juggling or even ... (not sure how that can be done) any paper book? As i wrote, such activities are expensive for nomads as carrying the gear costs a lot in opportunity cost for equivalent digital devices.

If a nomad decides to carry some analog tools, that means the activity is somehow important and rewarding, but maybe we are not that knowledgeable about what can be done with what we can carry along.

So i grew curious, what are your valuable analog companions, if any?

I say "allows pickup" because I'm not familiar with this process but I see many companies offer scanned mail services. I don't need anything to be opened or scanned, just intercepted so it's not sent to my house. It can't be a PO box. I don't even need it for long as it's for literally one piece of mail that I'm expecting. I'm in the US, Ohio if it matters.

I’ve spent lots of time in Thailand and Vietnam and never have issues with food. But in Malaysia, not so much. Anyone else?

Our current scenario is simple on paper and messy in practice: an employee pays out of pocket in EUR, another in SGD, and the parent entity reports in USD. Receipts arrive in different languages, finance has to validate policy and tax, then payment goes out through a mix of local rails and international transfers.

For remote teams, what setup actually shortened the time from submission to money in the employee's account? Did you keep reimbursements inside the expense platform or export them to payroll or AP?

I am looking for the tradeoffs around exchange rates, local payout speed, audit trail, and failed payments. Please include the countries you operate in, because a solution that works in one market can fall apart in another.

I'm planning my next trip RTW as a digital nomad.

I don't know if I should stay in hostels or in AirBnBs.

The pros for hostels:

• You meet people.
• You can have fun.
• You rarely feel alone (at least based on my previous trip.)

The pros for AirBnBs:

• With the monthly discounts, prices are the same as hostels.
• You live in better conditions.

When I say hostels, I'm not really thinking about living with 8, 16, 24 other people in the room. I'm 35. It was fun at 25, not so much now. I'm thinking private rooms where I can both work and meet people in the shared spaces.

I get away with so much working from home. Yes, some weeks I do 40 or 40+, but most of the year I am averaging close to half of that and am still employed while I am competing with coworkers who are required to be in office M-R.

How many of you full timers also output similarly?

Need some suggestions from the community. A bit about me

40M single guy living in the US for the past 12 years, looking to move out and experience different countries. Not a US citizen, nor do I have a strong passport. What I do have is a consulting job paying 6 figures, and the ability to work from anywhere (well, most places anyways. No China, Russia or other war ravaged countries). I have about 500k in liquid assets, and no debt or dependents.

Open to moving anywhere on the nomad visa where it's not too hot or crowded and I can live comfortably on my income without touching my savings. I'm not much of a party guy but I do like being surrounded by friendly locals, water, and greenery, rather than concrete.

Ideally, I would first move to a place where I can set up base (low taxes, maybe get PR soon unlike the US), and then travel to different countries. What countries should I be looking at?

This is maybe useful for people thinking about going this route, so I'll try to give the real version rather than the clean summary.

Four months in Southeast Asia with no active bank account, everything paid through a crypto debit card for merchant purchases and P2P for cash situations, with a few direct wallet-to-wallet payments at places that accepted crypto natively. Not perfect. I want to be upfront about that because most posts about this make it sound cleaner than it is.

The P2P side was the harder problem, not the card. In countries where P2P liquidity is thin you're either paying a bad rate or stuck, and there were two stretches where I spent an evening sorting out cash access that should have taken ten minutes. Thailand and Vietnam had enough liquidity that it was fine, Bali was manageable, a few other stops were genuinely annoying.

The card side worked better than I expected for a first run through it. Probably 70% of what I paid for went through the card, restaurants, accommodation, transport, groceries in cities. Got declined at maybe 8-10% of places I tried, usually smaller local shops or markets rather than anything with a modern POS setup. Once you learn the pattern of where it works and where it doesn't you can plan around it, but that mental overhead is real and worth knowing going in.

What I didn't anticipate was the fee accumulation across four months. The top up fee seemed fine in isolation and got annoying in total. If I was doing it again I'd spend more time comparing cards before leaving rather than grabbing one that seemed popular in threads.

Have 20k banked up and want to go digital nomad for a while. Would preferably be somewhere I can do without a car and strong internet connection for sporadic work. Sell me on your best places
