Such excellent advice, which applies to all sorts of addictions... including device addiction... where people trying to quit being off social media never replace them with actual meaningful relationships. And in this case, a routine, as you mention.
Also, so true on the "afternoon slump" which people have bought as gospel. It's because you're not sleeping enough, and society had conditioned you to think that those 6 hours are enough, or that 11 PM party is "normal."

I had already tapered to half caf about two years ago because my sensitivity to caffeine was slowly increasing. Two cups of half caf drip coffee in the morning; something decaf in the afternoon and I was good.
I tapered from half calf to no caf over about ten days. It wasn't terrible. I had a few days of brain fog and tiredness, but it was over quickly. I am still drinking decaf and don't plan to give that up but I learned this morning that I can have too much decaf, so....moderation.

I'm the same the symptoms I have why I want too quit caffeine actually increase 10x when I am quitting. Anxiety low mood energy all shit on caffeine body feels on edge . When I quit it's volume turned up too 50
people think caffeine is a superpower but i think its actually the opposite. i feel superpowered that i can just do work whenever i want and feel calm about it. good luck in your journey. you have to go through a temporary period of hopelessness but it is temporary and it is worth it

I've never taken birth control cause I didn't want my hormones getting messed with. that didn't extend to caffeine though! lol
the caffeine pill in the morning was actually super beneficial for me at the time, and the routine of actually getting up stuck with me. but i was smoking a lot of weed during those years which makes me sleep in like crazy. the caffeine was compensating. but now that i am an occasional user i can easily wake up without caffeine, and im not randomly super tired all day

I am supersensitive to caffeine too. Before I had to taper off I was already a half caf drinker because just two cups of half caf made my heart and brain race. It was like I was drunk on caffeine.
I've been caffeine free for not quite two weeks (quit because of arrhythmias, so not much temptation to go back). This morning I had three cups of decaf and I actually think I had too much. 🫠 Which is hilarious. Too much decaf! But I could tell - my arrhythmias increased and I felt them more. Hours later and they've finally settled down. But it's a valuable lesson about even very small amounts of caffeine.

In the withdrawal phase you may have difficulty staying focused, and brain fog as well. Unfortunately you really gotta give yourself a few months to truly feel the full effects of being caffeine free. You can always taper down over the weeks if it’s difficult for you. Best of luck!

Say what you will but in my case there is an element of caffeine addiction cos every day since the last 17-18 days I try to NOT drink that black tea or decaf coffee however I still end up having it don’t matter if I sit down to enjoy it or if I gulp it down in one large gulp. I’m planning to quit caffeine altogether so I’m considering this one cup of black tea/decaf coffee tapering down. Up until a couple of days it was brutal. From 400-600mg of caffeine daily to measly I dunno how much caffeine could there be in a cup of black tea or decaf coffee …. it was bad, no point in ruminating over how I felt, now I feel better for sure

Nice job, I am at 9 months. Thankfully, I never had cravings to deal with.

During my second week I had pretty debilitating back pain for about 5 days. I lost a lot of sleep over it. No amount of pain reliever, stretching or repositioning my body made a difference, but it eventually dissipated. I don’t know if it was kidney or muscular. I’ve read a lot of similar experiences on here.

I used to take caffeine pills the same way. Set my alarm to wake up early to take the pill then fall back asleep until the pill kicked in and then would wake up "naturally" feeling energized. I thought I was so clever.
Except for a few "slips" I've been off caffeine for 12 months now.

If i may ask what is your diet like? Do you eat many carbs? because i feel they are contributing to my afternoon crashes

Yes, that definitely could have made everything much worse. Good luck to you. You will be feeling better before you know it. Better than before even.
