10,000 Clubreddit Members (and call for Mods)

Hey gang! I just got an alert that we eclipsed 10,000 members in our corner of the Internet.

When I joined the mod team, we had around 3,000 (if I recall correctly).

Moderating everything isn’t all that hard, you lot are pretty good at staying civil and mature. There are a few exceptions, but I have never felt I needed to log in. Keeping the styling and information up-to-date, though, is challenging to find the time.

So, I’d like to bring in a few mods to help make our community more engaging and appealing. Let’s get as many people in the Clubreddit as we do Audi Field.

I’m happy to keep footing the AWS bill, and open up the GitHub to a few folks that are interested in helping automate the maintenance and moderation of the the content. For example, you probably noticed that the Match Thread bot failed for the opener - that’s because the Stanza calendar died. I don’t have time to fix that before the next match.

So, if you’re interested in moderating some content; graphic design, and/or Internet automation - reach out!

Bonus if you have a GitHub, or subreddit that you currently moderate. When I auditioned for the mod gig, I created a personal subreddit to play with the design tools and figured out how to interact with the Reddit API.

Vamos!

Excited that we have a healthy squad going in. The beauty of not having any players playing in the World Cup lol.

DC United should just partner with Annapolis Blues FC for MLSNP.

If it was up to me, there would already be a DCU2 playing at Segra Field. Going to Baltimore makes no sense, a city that has their own pro sports, I’m sure they would prefer their own pro team (whether MLS or USL).

Annapolis Blues FC already has the fanbase and local flavor in former DC United FO member, Michael Hitchcock, Kyle Beckerman and Alex Yi. Take them out of USL2 and take them to MLSNP. I wonder if there is even potential for maybe just a partnership where Annapolis Blues FC is still independent but we can develop talent there; that way they can still play in USOC.

This quote from Levien about MLSNP always killed me:

“Some of the teams have done it more for development purposes,” Levien said of the MLS Next Pro platform. “We think there’s a great development opportunity in terms of developing talent and exposing talent to the game. BUT ON THE COMMERCIAL SIDE, we think it’s really significan.”

*Alex Yi currently is an assistant coach at Ventura County, maybe he’ll want to come home and help with MLSNP team. Not to mention Beckerman coached at NCAA level.

Meet the Team Day

The team really scheduled Meet the Team Day for Aug. 2 to cover the whole time of the Spirit match at Audi Field? Less than 24 hours after people traveled into town for the Nashville match?

And you have to pay a $5 donation just to RSVP?

These decisions just make no sense to me.

Quick Review: Servania vs Peltola

With Andre Dozzell coming in, one of our two CMs is probably about to lose minutes. So which one is the better fit for how we actually play? I ran their numbers across the season (per 90) and tried to keep my own bias out of it.

The lazy argument “Ah Peltola scores, Servania doesn’t” (1–0 on goals) is basically noise: their underlying xG is nearly identical (0.034 vs 0.037). That one Peltola goal is a clean finish’s worth of variance, not a repeatable gap. If anything, Servania is the more shot-happy of the two: more shots (1.05 vs 0.89), way more shots on target (0.38 vs 0.07), and 2x the box touches (0.75 vs 0.34). So the “he doesn’t contribute to the attack” take doesn’t hold up.

The real statistical case for Peltola is the boring stuff and it’s about our style. We’re a direct, long-ball team, and that’s exactly where Peltola separates:

Long balls: 1.70 vs 0.83 per 90
Passes into final third: 7.0 vs 4.4
Chances created: 0.95 vs 0.60
Recoveries: 6.1 vs 3.8
Duel win %: 61% vs 52%
Aerials duel win: 44% vs 27%

He progresses the ball better, defends better, and wins it back more. For a team that lives on direct progression, he’s the cleaner fit. His higher FotMob average (7.3 vs 6.8) reflects that.

Limitations of the review: none of this measures off-ball movement because I don’t have positional XY data.

Is Servania doomed to be a forever rotational player? Not really. Servania’s higher shot/box-touch numbers hint at a more advanced profile than a deep CM. We saw a glimpse of it in the second half at NYCFC when he pushed higher. With Dozzell taking the deeper CM role, the interesting question isn’t Peltola or Servania it’s whether Servania’s future is actually as a #10 more than a pure deep CM rotational player.

I also like the idea of a 4-2-2-2 with Munteanu and Baribo up top.

Lemme know any recommendations or ideas.

Audi Field Access during Summer 2026 Red Line Major Construction Shutdown

Thinking about going to the 07/25 D.C. United and 07/26 Washington Spirit game at Audi Field and wondering how to best approach getting there since my station is one of the stations that is closed/partially closed between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights on the Red Line.

Hey yall I’m pretty big United fan who goes games every 4 months ish. I have an older sister whose company gave her 4 tickets for the Heniken rooftop for the LAFC game. I came here to ask what should I expect and if it’s worth the jump if I wanted to go in the future. I usually sit in the 115-119 if you’re wondering thanks!

Montreal Trip - Experiences?

Debating taking a long weekend to visit Montreal next month when we play up there. Curious if anyone has experiences good or bad with the game day atmosphere, stadium etc, and whether it's worth it. Haven't been to Montreal ever and have only heard good things so assume that part of the trip will be fun, but is it worth booking around the game?

Check out the team's YouTube content if you haven't already

This season has been pretty fun with the type of YouTube/social media content that's been uploaded. It's just basic questions being asked while the players are going to/from training but it let's you get a taste of the guys' personalities. And as expected, Farr and Antley are the most charismatic guys on the squad.

Best match to see live this season?

I picked an EPL team (Brighton) a few years ago to follow and fell in love with the sport. I have watched misc DC United matches but this year I’ve gotten more into it.

I’m from and live in MD and would love to take some friends to a live match. They aren’t specifically soccer fans but I’ve gotten them into the World Cup and they enjoy sports in general. I’ve always considered myself a United fan even though I know VA has a team next door too.

Out of the remaining matches, which 1-3 do you think would be most fun to see? I’m open to any reasoning - stars to watch (wish we could see Messi play), competitive matchups, etc.

Who’s attending or planning to attend this match ? Any ideas on how the atmosphere might be ? Hopefully people won’t be drunk off of the World Cup and attend the match !

Season Ticket Renewals are dropping (Prices kept flat)

Same thing as this year with a premier plan and a standard plan. Prices are mostly flat on a per game basis, but the total is up because they are bundling the spring season with 2027-28.
