Hey neighbors! Not sure if you noticed all the posts of folks looking for friends - be it because they picked up a new hobby, just moved here, or never quite found their people - but we sure did, and we decided that we wanted to do something about it. It’s probably the most open secret at this point, but we created a Discord!
Dayton is full of really uniquely cool people, but any local knows that it can be kind of hard to actually find folks to hang out with that share similar interests unless you’re already part of a friend group. We wanted to make it easier for those in the Greater Dayton area - be it newcomers, lifelong locals, introverts, extroverts, whoever - to plug in and find their people.
Think of it as a hyper-local social network, but with zero ads or algorithms and full of people who actually live near you that want to meet-up and make friends too!
This thing basically started running itself the minute people joined. We’ve already got:
And folks keep building new stuff every week. The community there is already kind, welcoming, goofy, and honestly - it’s endearing to watch people become friends online and slowly become offline friends too.
Hop in, say hi (or lurk, we won’t judge), join a meetup, make your own, whatever feels comfortable. No pressure. We’re just a group of neighbors trying to make Dayton a little more connected.
Hope to see you in there, neighbors! ❤️ https://discord.gg/Nnpancdjnu

Hello!
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this neighborhood and how safe it is/if there is anything I should be worried about?
I just got a place in this area and I am super excited, just being overly cautious!
Thank you for your time and your help.

So, I bought a house recently, and as part of the sale the electrical panels needed updated (2 old panels that were definite fire hazards).
TLDR: The work failed the city inspection, but Apex is refusing to complete the work appropriately without more money.
Below is my google review.
I purchased a house this spring, as part of the condition of sale the 2 outdated electrical panels needed replaced and gfci outlets put near water sources. Then during appraisal it was found the outside line coming in needed updated due to deterioration. My electrician quoted 4k, but the listing agent contracted Apex Pros instead. The work was done April 28 & May 4, my closing was May 6th. (I requested constantly the results of the city inspection for my records but didn't receive that until much later, but that's a separate issue). The permit for the work was supposedly in Apex's system on May 21, 2026 but the city didn't receive the submission until June 1. The inspection was on June 3, 2026.
The panel work and outside line all failed on 7 points.
They didn't label the panels, they didn't ground the electrical work, they didn't include an external emergency disconnection, they attached too small a wire to too large a breaker (10 amp to 40/50 breakers).
I waited 1 week for someone to reach out to me to schedule remediation. After 1 week of no contact, I called several times to reach a supervisor about the issue. I reached out to customer service, customer advocate, requested a supervisor. Finally on 6/12 I was told by the customer advocate that management had determined they only "failed" the emergency disconnect. And scheduled someone to come out on 6/15. I made sure they had my contact information from all the reachouts I had made. 6/15 no call but the same technician who did the initial work came at 10:24am (8-1 timeframe) and only replaced the outside connection to include an emergency disconnect. Still no labeling of panels or correction of other fail points. Finished around 3:30pm and left.
6/16 - finally got a response to my request for a supervisor and scheduled for one on 6/17
6/17 - The Quality Control Manager came out and documented the work. Assured me the work would be fixed as my request is that the house be safe! Currently if I were to use the stove and washing machine at the same time I could trip a breaker.
Originally the same technician was to come out on 6/22 with a supervisor but due to weather we had to reschedule to 6/23.
6/23 - no call to me they showed up at 12:45pm (8-1 window)
They again changed the external line. During their time here, the technician was verbally down playing what needed done, "Oh just change this and some minor things. I don't know why we need to do this" Questioning the reasoning behind the quality control manager's requests. I gave him the QM's phone number so he could call and get clarification. They finished/left around 4:45pm, but had not completed the grounding work. He did finally label most of the panels (but not all the connections) and he never did locate which breaker my kitchen ceiling fan was on. I did not receive a list of things they were to do to my property. I was hoping to receive one and even reached out requesting one, so I could ensure the technician did everything. They were scheduled to return on 6/26 to complete the grounding of my electrical system. I received an email this morning(6/26) at 7:51 am stating that they had reached out to the seller for payment for the additional work they needed to do to remediate the failed work they had done, but that they couldn't reach her. So they were pulling the permit and ceasing the work. In essence refusing to move forward with the remaining action items which included grounding the electrical. So they want to charge extra to complete the work they initially did that failed the city inspection and left me with an unsafe house. I will NEVER recommend this company for work. Additionally they charged for 4 GFCI outlets but only installed 3.
7/22/26 In addition: I recently had a new AC unit installed as my old one died. When the technician (from a different company of course) came to turn off the AC, the breaker marked AIR did not turn off the unit. He had to figure out which one was the correct breaker and then label it as it was unlabeled.
Then recently in response to my BBB complaint they showed a picture of the "inspection report" with hand written "fixed" next to each item to prove it was done, except for the outside grounding rod. Except one of the items they labeled as completed was a hot cold bonding, which is located inside my house in a utility closet, and they NEVER entered that area. They only worked outside at the incoming line and spent a tiny amount of time at one of the panels, I assume to label it incorrectly. So I responded that how did they complete that item as they never entered the utility closet, as I was present during the work.
Unethical, poor work, leaving trash on my roof. Also in the end, charging the seller of the house DOUBLE what my electrician would have charged. I'm in constant contact with the seller and she is so upset. We're trying to work through the realtors to get everything resolved.

Moving back to the area and haven’t lived here in over eleven years. Need recommendations for physicians networks that have both doctors for personal care physicians and ob/gyn.
This is a MUST: my ob-gyn must be pro-choice and believe in the use of birth control. I have searched on this subreddit and was astounded to hear horror stories of women experiencing birth control shaming from their OBs.
Thank you in advance!!!

i need a great lawyer for a custody case. please share your recommendations with me. thanks!
I am new to the area and am looking for a good place to regularly golf. I have usually just gone to municipal courses so I am wondering what are the best ones close to me! I am downtown but I don’t mind driving 15-20 mins. I am also open to some private courses if they aren’t crazy expensive. I have played Meadowbrook in trotwood and cassel hills in Vandalia and like them both. Let me know your best suggestions! TIA

Hello all
I am trying to find out if there’s some kind of schedule or order of events for Palefest at Land of Illusion this weekend. I bought tickets solely to meet Bootsy Collins and while I will probably go both days just for fun, I am a mega fan of his and need to know when the meet and greet is. All the websites are useless. Can anybody help this Funkateer?
Many thanks in advance and may the Funk be with you.

Hi. I am wondering if anyone has experience with DriveSmart online schedules for behind-the-wheel lessons. I saw on the website said that drives rides are being added every day, but when I tried registered for classes in both July and August, all I could see was classes are already full or not available. I did try reaching out to the service center through emails and phone numbers, but nothing worked. I am quite confused about their schedules. Does anyone know when they usually put the available dates up?
Anybody else having an AES outage in the Fairborn/Beavercreek area? Also apparnetly happened a couple days ago.

My wife is currently looking for part time work in the area. Here’s the catch - she has a disability (Ehlers Danlos) that doesn’t allow her to be on her feet for long and also doesn’t allow strenuous activity, honestly she would qualify for disability, but due to being out of the workforce for a long time (stay at home mother, and then EDS got worse). I don’t want her to have to work, due to how bad her body is at times, we are just barely surviving being one income with 2 kids and since the price of everything continues to go up. So if anyone has any leads to any remote positions, or part time onsite non-physical work, please share.
Her background is in customer service.

I’m a young woman looking for a mechanic that will not take advantage of that fact. I don’t know everything about cars but I know a con artist when I see one. Who are the HONEST mechanics in Dayton? Bonus points if their service fee is included/goes towards the repairs.

Hello everyone!
Me and my roommate are thinking of living at Centerfield Flats for a year or two starting August. I wanted to ask current residents or people who is familiar with the apartment/neighborhood about things they like or dislike with it! Any accidents like flooding, car thefts, etc.? Are the neighbors friendly? Is there a pest problem?
I was also worried about the noise issue since it is literally right across the baseball field lol.
Also, if there are any activities, coffee shops, restaurants, places to checkout around downtown (i don’t have a car) that y’all recommend checking out, please let me know! I’m new to Dayton.
Any advice or feedback is much appreciated!
Thank you all in advance! :)

Does anyone happen to know of any good, Dayton or Cinci area therapists that specialize in helping men? I’m possibly looking for a new one, but I’m curious if this is something that exists in this area.

The weather for the coming weekend looks fantastic (especially on historic trends).
Consider checking out the Dayton Celtic Festival -- Riverscape Metro Park and surrounds. Free street fair. Lots of stages/music. Food trucks. Fun people. Cute dogs. Et Cetera! Et Cetera! Et Cetera!
Not staff, just an annual attendee.
https://daytoncelticfestival.com/
.
As for the "historic" note, the main stage has managed to be briefly shut down for storms at some point in over half of the years. It is sort of tradition.
But NEVER at festival closing. Celts see things through.

I keep seeing them running around in the area, but does anybody know where you can rent one? And how's your experience driving those? Are they usually clean and free from any maintenance issue?
My old friend used to have a Car2Go membership (before they went out of business), and he seemed to like it and car sharing in general. Not sure if Zip Car is the only car sharing service around here, but let me know if you have any other recommendation. I'm thinking about lending my car to a family member out of state, because my current gig is expected to be mostly remote for the next year or two.
I don't really go out or socialize that much, so walking to grocery store and taking RTA bus should cover most of my daily needs. I just want to be able to rent a car after normal business hours just in case. Most car rental places here close early (4 or 5pm), but with Zip Car I won't have that problem. Just wanted some insights from those who utilize it.

We found darnell outside a little over a month ago. He is a beautiful affectionate little boy. He does great with all my cats. We are looking for someone with other cats that can handle all the fluff. We are in dayton kind of close to the va. Message me for more information

Does anyone know what’s going on over there? I thought it was maybe an accident, we were driving under the bridge and saw two ambulances, and a firetruck all with their lights on. And saw more emergency vehicles heading that way as I continued on. Hope everyone is okay!
Edit: Technically it’s an overpass and not a bridge, didn’t want to confuse anyone!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good stylist who does kids cuts? Kind of scared to just go to Cookie Cutters, unless someone has a specific stylist to recommend. TIA!

We are a two-mom family with a 3 year old. It’s hard for me to find any kind of outing that I know would be a safe-space for our little family. Wasn’t sure if there was a local group or anything that anyone knows about! As a SAHM, having basically 0 friends is starting to catch up to me. Lol.

He has an exhibit called "Chuds and Duds," which is a collection of 16 pieces of his unique pieces of bedpan art, which in this case highlight the worst among us.

Edited: Thanks for all of the responses. If nothing else I have a bunch of new places to try. I think we're going to Bravo by the Dayton Mall (for eggplant parmesan).
Just like the title says. Want to take a dear Muslim friend for a birthday meal. South of town preferable.
