He doesn't seem to have a single scene where he doesn't act heroically, suave or alpha.
Every team member has their trauma and weak spots, his being that he was "wronged" by someone else and turned it into a strength.
He's bascially infallible, his only flaw being that sometimes, he acts hot-headed. Charmingly, of course, because he cares so much.
Adds this element of predictability of every scene he's in.

Was looking for a place to vent this as I'm rewatching the series and maybe be pointed to some things I'm overlooking. Cheers!

I've been binge-watching Criminal Minds for the first time, and a question came to mind: is godparenthood not a big deal in America, or in the CM universe?

For example, Spencer is Henry's godfather, but in Evolution, at Will's funeral, it seems like they haven't talked for a long time. Also, Garcia baptised Morgan's child, but when Morgan makes a guest appearance to talk to Garcia after he had left, Penelope says something along the lines of "he has grown so much", which makes it look like she hasn't kept up with her godchild.

I'm from Greece, where most people are Orthodox Christians. Godparents usually keep in touch with the children they baptised. We even have special traditions, such as the requirement that godparents gift a candle and shoes to their godchildren every Easter.

So, is this the typical relationship people have with their godchildren in America? Is it a cultural difference among Catholics and Orthodox? Or is it just the writers not caring about this tiny detail?

Criminal minds has been on for a minute and is there an episode that was so sad but it was also so great to watch.

For those in this sub who watched the show as it aired- what was it like when Paget and AJ got fired? I know in a ton of shows I watch whenever a character is written off because the actor got fired it’s never fun

[minor spoilers, discussion of characters who come and go, season 8 and below]

hi all! i'm just wondering if anyone else has this grievance with the show - in the first few seasons, it felt like the writing tried to ensure each character had a special area of expertise within profiling or specific job on the team that allowed them all to feel valuable in their own way. i'm thinking of morgan with obsessional crimes and bombs, emily as a translator with a global perspective, jj as a press/media liaison, and, admittedly later on, blake with linguistic analysis (which is also partly why i think she was so well received for a post-emily addition). i think reid also always took the lead on geographic profiles and elle may have had more lines with sex crime cases as she had a history working in those. these were all really interesting ways to highlight different characters from episode to episode and also provided reasons for them to have lines that explain to the audience what's going on when they are explaining their analysis to their fellow profilers - in the latter half, it just feels very repetitive, with everyone educating each other on general things they all already know. i get that some of that is inevitable as the show continues and there are certain facts they have to establish at the beginning of each case, but leaning harder into specializations as time went on actually would've been all the more valuable for this, right?

honestly even just having a rookie like seaver on for a season, they should've seized the opportunity to do more mentor-quizzing-newbie lines (though they did do some of seaver asking questions, which was nice) and done at least one additional case that benefitted from her history (maybe a family annihilator case that let her connect with a young girl like her, maybe an episode where her dad reveals he hid more bodies and they travel to interview him, something! that alone would've been a perfect goodbye episode for her too, it writes itself, with her maybe deciding that she doesn't need to spend her life atoning for her father's sins, with her feeling better about her misplaced guilt by having helped provide closure to some of the victims' families, with her having confronted her father and being able to start moving past this ghost in her life, etc, and all of that would've been better than just writing her off in a single line - this even coming from someone who didn't particularly care for her). (and now i'm really getting sidetracked but i recognize that she was probably written off like that for ratings/audience backlash reasons, but i still think that she deserved a goodbye, again, as someone who did not even like the character much)

i just mourn the way every character starts to fit the same role and begins to have lines that could be interchangeable among members of the team, especially jj - she was such an interesting character as a separate but essential part of the bau and i wish that even if she did return as a profiler rather than media liaison, they still gave her some specific area of focus perhaps having to do with the press (how unsubs present their public image, perhaps?). she just feels like her characterization disappears in her return :( give them back their niches!!

I can't remember if it's criminal minds or another show but I remember they go to a rural town for a case. All I remember is they are trying to solve a murder and everyone is being difficult about it, mostly the cops, and getting in their way. They realize that the cops are dirty and there a gunfight at the end of the episode when they find out the cops are responsible and trying to cover it up

Losing Maeve really took a toll on Reid. I like how the conversation between Rossi and Reid went. It’s just perfect that out of the rest of the team, they chose Rossi to talk to Reid about his grief.

I also love the moment Reid and Maeve shared at the end of the episode. It felt surreal.

What do you guys think? Should they have given more episodes to Maeve and Reid?

Just finished rewatching Season 1, Episode 2, and I forgot how unsettling this episode was. The unsub was creepy in a completely different way than the pilot, and I thought the psychological aspect of the case was really well done.

A few things that stood out to me:

• I’m already loving the dynamic between the team, even though they’re still getting to know each other.
• Reid continues to impress me with the random facts he pulls out at exactly the right time.
• Gideon has such a unique way of understanding people. It’s fascinating to watch how he pieces everything together.
• The early seasons have a different atmosphere that I’m really enjoying on this rewatch.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the characters continue to grow as the series goes on.

Please no spoilers beyond Season 1, Episode 2! I’m taking this rewatch one episode at a time.

I miss when they was on the show i don’t even watch the new criminal minds because they not on there

Season 8 ep 24 the replicator , I can’t help but feel there’s a cut scene that shows how the team got out of the room , it cuts to the unsub going back in the room and Rossi is behind him door shuts and house blows up . We never see how the team gets out . If it was as easy as someone else opening the door why didn’t call for help ? All those agents outside ?

I’m doing a full rewatch and just finished Season 1, Episode 1 (“Extreme Aggressor”).

A few things that stood out to me this time around:

• Gideon immediately steals every scene he’s in. You can tell why everyone respected him.
• It’s interesting seeing the team before they really become a family.
• Reid already has so many little quirks that make him such a great character.
• I forgot how much profiling they actually explain in the early episodes.

It’s been years since I watched from the beginning, and I’m excited to see how everyone’s relationships evolve again.
