The Order of Nine Angles (O9A - ONA) is a satanic organization that originated in the United Kingdom and, over time, evolved into a decentralized network composed of small groups known as nexions. Its objective is to subvert society through infiltration, manipulation, and the promotion of increasingly extreme acts. Over the years, various cases in several countries have been linked to organizations derived from O9A, demonstrating that its reach is not limited to a single location and that the internet has become one of its primary tools for expansion.

One of these nexions was and is 764, an apparently satanic virtual network that emerged on Discord and was initially created by minors. Its members seek vulnerable victims in video games like Minecraft and Roblox, then recruit them onto private servers where they are manipulated, extorted, and forced to perform increasingly disturbing acts. Many victims ended up becoming recruiters themselves, repeating the same cycle of manipulation they had suffered. Over time, 764 decentralized and gave rise to new groups.

And so Spawnism emerged, a movement inspired by the Roblox video game Forsaken. What began as something innocent born from that online game ended up being exploited by individuals seeking to manipulate minors. Various investigations and reports indicate that communities linked to 764 infiltrated several Spawnism groups to replicate the same nefarious recruitment and control mechanisms. These three stories ceased to be isolated cases and became part of the same evolution, a network of interconnected nefarious groups that adapted to the internet.

In January 1979, a man named Robert Nicholas Williams was killed at the Ford Michigan Casting Center by a one-ton parts-retrieval robot built by Litton Industries. He climbed into a storage rack to retrieve parts faster the machine wasn’t supposed to be operating at the time. It was. He became, as far as the historical record shows, the first human being killed by a robot in an industrial setting in the United States.

Most people have never heard his name.
I recently produced a documentary episode telling his story. I’m not a trained filmmaker or journalist I come from 12 years in industrial robotics, working with the actual machines that descended from systems like the one that killed him. That background is exactly why this story grabbed me. I understand the machines. I understand the plants. I understand how quietly these systems entered American manufacturing and how little most workers were told about the risk.

I genuinely want insight from people who care about documentary filmmaking as a craft, because I take the responsibility of telling a real person’s story seriously.
Some questions I’m sitting with:
How do you handle gaps in the historical record responsibly? Robert Williams’ case has surprisingly thin public documentation for something so significant court records, contemporary news coverage, and OSHA-era safety filings exist, but there isn’t a rich verbal history. How do documentarians ethically fill narrative gaps without fabricating specifics that weren’t recorded?
How do you balance narrative pacing with historical accuracy? I want the piece to be emotionally resonant, not just a recitation of facts, but I never want dramatization to cross into misrepresentation.

For those who’ve covered workplace death, industrial accidents, or labor history how do you approach the family and community angle respectfully when the people involved may no longer be reachable or willing to speak on record decades later?
And more broadly what documentaries do you think handled a similar challenge really well? A single, mostly-forgotten death that represents something much bigger about technology, labor, and industry? I’d love recommendations to study.
Robert Williams’ death happened at the exact moment American manufacturing began quietly automating in ways that would reshape entire cities, including the one I’m from. Detroit. I think his story deserves more than a footnote, and I want to do it justice.
Open to any thoughts, critiques, or reading recommendations from people who do this seriously.
