Teller insight

I was at a bank yesterday, picking up some coin rolls and the teller said she had additional rolls that she couldn’t sell because they had customers name and phone numbers. She said it was a shame too, because they have to pay to send them out to the feds.

I offered to save them money and purchase just the coins if they were willing to dump the coins into a bag instead of handing me the whole roll with the wrapper. That way they could discard the customers rappers while I take the coins and they save the money. Everybody wins.

She checked with the manager and they approved.
I asked how we could be helpful in our relationship as coin roll hunters and she said having some sort of schedule or calling ahead to let them know what we’re looking for would be helpful to the bank. That they can then set aside these roles that they would normally have to pay to ship out to the feds for us if we’re willing to accept them in nontraditional methods, like dumping the coins out.

Anyway, I imagine this is advice that would only be helpful to people who frequent their Bank enough to be known by the tellers. Be good.

Silver! Small but rewarding dollar/half hunt

Bank had $100 in small dollars, $20 in large dollars and $80 in halves (all CWR) so decided I’d try my luck. Small dollars gave me a 2002 D NIFC Sacagawea and 1995 Irish 20 pence, large dollars gave a gold plated 1978 dollar, and the halves had a 40% silver 1967.

Cents $4 in cents hunt results

I was able to acquire 8 Loomis rolls, $4 total of cents 😃They told me going forward I'm limited to $3 worth 🤦🏻

The results? I found four wheat cents, two Canadian, (the King and Queen in the same roll!), eleven 1982's, 63 coppers (quite low, only 15.5% in these rolls versus the average of 20.5%), and one 2009. 👍🏻

The most coppers I found in a single roll this hunt was 13, and the least coppers found in a single roll was a lowly three.

Thanks for looking! 🫡

Show & Tell I have been blessed with opportunity lately. Handling these old coins is half the excitement.

Another freind provided me with his set which contained a few rolls entirely if wheats and steel Pennies. Then a few buffalo nickels and some foreign coins. There is more to the collection that I didn’t take home today that I hopefully can share soon.

Nickels Best finds from my 2 box nickel hunt today

I got blessed with a lot of goodies today. 2 war nickels (one was an ender), another 1950 Philly, and a surprisingly 19 dimes between the two boxes. 10 in box one and 9 in the second box. Somebody must’ve had a bad day when rolling all these nickels, but hey I made a little money and i got some silver for face value. Happy hunting y’all

Dimes Is this dime worth anything???

I did my first CRH. I got $200 in dimes, which were bank rolled but seemed to have been gone through already as they weren't very tight. Anyway, I didn't find much, but I came across this dime and I've never seen anything like it before. Is this anything special? Is it worth anything? Is it an error coin? It looks to be raised, which I believe means it could be an error. I saw similar messed up looking dimes on Ebay for $100+. Let me know please! I just started CRH and am loving it so far! Even if this isn't anything special, I was still super excited when I found it.

Has anyone actually found a July 4th privy in a Denver box?

I just got 2 full boxes of all Independence Day quarters from Denver mint. All of them that I could see on ends were all Denver and I opened 1 and all were Denver. I’m wondering if anyone actually has anecdotal evidence to support that they are actually mixed in with virgin Denver rolls. Otherwise it seems like you could only get them from Philadelphia mint boxes.

Toss or sell?

Post image

Is it worth selling these off online as a bundle or tossing them back into the wild?

I don’t sell money, I’ve just been coin roll hunting this year. Would anyone purchase these?

I got them yesterday when I asked for “machine wrapped” quarters for the first time (specifically).

I’m willing to bet the teller had a good chuckle after.
I’m having a chuckle now, just wondering what to do with these.

I’d hate to open them because someone brought them to the bank unopened hoping the right person would get them, but I’m not that person.

But I don’t know the market because I don’t buy and sell, I just go to the bank and get coin roll and try my luck when I can.

But for those of you who do by and sell, is it worth putting a lot on eBay or something?

If so, what do you think someone would be willing to buy these for over face… if at all?

Is it worth it, or should I just toss them back into circulation?

Thanks in advance.

Do change machines count?

Woke up earlier than planned this morning and had some time to kill. I knew the weather was going to be nice so I took my dirty car to the car wash in town to spray it down and make it look presentable. $5 into the change machine, quarters drop out. I of course always check, especially with the 2026 privy quarters rolling around. The very last one in my hand I see the San Antonio missions back, flip it over, and there's the dub :)

Extra bonus... There was a quarter resting in the coin return in the spray bay as well, so I still had $5 of spendable quarters lol

1- 1991 S Proof Dime,
4- Silver Roosevelts, and
1- 1/10 Golden State Mint .999 Silver Coin

Very happy with the results! Never thought I’d find a .999 silver coin in a CWR. After seeing the dude find the gold coin in his quarters, I guess anything is possible!

Cents Nice 1912 penny ender today!

Post image

I grabbed two boxes of pennies today and one was all new 2023-P's, and the other was mixed. I ended up with this 1912, and a 1944 ender.

I also went by my local bank that I've stopped picking up boxes from because I was on a 10 box 2025 halvea streak. I drop off my unwanted pennies because they can't order any at this bank. I knew they had a bunch of coins for about 2 months that they can't get rid of because they were already searched. I'm heading out of town and told them I'd take whatever they didn't want out of state and dump it for them. Two boxes were nickels. I went through them anyway and ended up with 60 from 1940-1959, including a 1942 non-silver, 1946 s, 1953 s, 7 2024's, and 2 2009's.

Man I have gone through $2590 in quarters from all over the place in the last few months. Mind you I’m recycling the same $250 and putting change back when I find silver but this is why we do it.

Cents Dear me. Been a while since I’ve hunted pennys. And I’ve stumbled onto a collection. I’ve only hunted five bucks before I had to come into work. And I’ve already got like 150 wheats and an Indian head. Post more tomorrow.
