Got the idea from Pinterest and put my own little spin on it.

It’s taken a few months, but as of last week I finally finished this monster of a project.

It’s a combination of hand and machine sewn, though mostly done painstakingly by hand. It’s made primarily out of a heavy wool blanket, but features duck linings in the pockets and in the faux fur hood attachment. The faux fur trim around the hood is removable if desired. The pockets feature drawstring toggle closures with buffalo horn buttons.

It was a blast to make, but man am I glad it’s finished. I worked with a Missouri River pattern for the base, but made a lot of customizations and winged a few ideas for it along the way.

Useing different acorns some cooper wier and glue. This little fella can predict the weather some what as the humidity causes the pedals to close or open. Anyway it was fun to build

My daughter is getting married in October, and I'm hosting a rehearsal-adjacent brunch at our home. I'd love to add some handmade, personal touches to make it feel extra special for her.

For all you talented crafters, what are some of your favorite DIY ideas? Decorations, centerpieces, signs, favors...I'm open to anything that's beautiful and doable. I'd love to hear what you've made for weddings or other special family gatherings!

Work in progress… but I feel proud of my background so far! Trying to achieve a “street art” style. Really interested in mixed media, and perhaps even plaster to blend and take this to the next level. Recommendations are welcome! I need some advice for some birthday gift ideas for my wife. She loves to craft in her spare time. She likes to canvas paint lately, but has always loved decorating wine/liquor bottles. Works a lot with clay! She's into natural landscape/naturistic vibes in most of her work. She is also wanting to get into some small resin projects! And of course, loves coloring books as well.

I'm looking for any ideas on some of y'all's favorite craft ideas, projects, books or even tools that help make your life easier when working on certain crafts!

How much should I charge someone for making something for them? I make a lot of stuff for family and I always feel bad giving them a price even when they offer to pay me. But at the same time it takes me a lot of time and material costs. I had a family member ask me to make her 3 shirts with a front pocket design, both sleeves, and the back done. She supplied the vinyl and the design was simple but in total it probably took me 4-5 hours to design, cut, weed, and iron everything. If I’m going off even just $10 an hour that’s $50 is that too much to ask for? Too little? Help!

Maybe this is an unpopular take, but the pressure to turn every hobby into a side hustle is making crafting less fun for me.

I freelance in the Midwest and I know the lean-week scramble. When money gets weird my brain flips into spreadsheet mode: track time, squeeze value, avoid wasting materials, only start things that will be "useful." I even catch myself treating projects like some idle farming game, always trying to maximize output and minimize downtime—the same part of my brain that gets hooked on reward loops in apps like Mistplay.

And yet, the things that actually help my stress have zero monetizing potential and no end goal. Hand-stitching a lopsided felt patch for a jacket. Using scrap yarn to make a tiny, ugly pom-pom garland for no reason. Making collages out of junk mail because ripping paper is oddly cathartic. None of it is Instagram worthy. That is exactly the point.

I get why people sell their stuff, and I respect that. I just wish we talked more about making things on purpose that are not productive, like a mental palate cleanser.

My rule lately: if I catch myself thinking about pricing it, photographing it, or justifying the materials, I put it down and pick something that is allowed to be dumb and imperfect.

Anyone else trying to keep crafting separate from hustle brain? What do you make when you want pure play, not a product?
