Irish Player Update Good pre season news for some of the young players (McDonnell, Romeo, Devaney), weird one for some of the experienced ones (Parrott, Bazunu, Will Ferry)
The good news is that Grady McDonnell & Jacob Devaney both made their senior debuts for Forrest & United respectively yesterday & by the sounds of things were very impressive to each fan base. Romeo Akachukwu as well played for Southampton last night & scored the final goal of the game. Albeit it was against Eastleigh but you can only beat what's in front of you
The weird news is that a lot of lads are getting left out in anticipation of transfers. Southamptons gaffers said Bazunu along with Ramsdale isn't gonna play till he gets a move, Troy Parrott hasn't got a game in pre season for AZ yet for likely same reasons, and Will Ferrys likewise.
Still plenty of clubs to come back so there's probably more kids & more seniors that will get similar fortunes but hopefully the lads that are on the move get sorted soon so that they're not playing catch up come September.

World Cup 2026 PSA: WC final coverage as Gaeilge on the Player/the News Channel
If you've had your fill of Maloney (yeh I no, but anyways) and want an alternative experience (and practice your cúpla focail) give it a twisht. You'll be surprised what you pick up and remember once you tune your ear into it.
There's always great craic in the Gaeilge Comms, they're a lot more...blunter...with their opinions because they tend to be less examined than RTÉ.
Bain taitneamh as an cluiche!

Transfer Completed Atherton ➡️ Ipswich & Aljabir ➡️ Benfica
Two big youth transfers in the last 24 hours:
Chris Atherton (17, Winger) moves from Chelsea to Ipswich in search of a quicker route to mens football. Atherton recently transfered from Northern Ireland to declare for us.
Sheikhan Aljabir (16, Winger) moves from Shelbourne to Benfica on a 3 year deal after impressing on trial. The Ireland U16 international will be joining one of the best academies in the world, emulating the route that Jaden Umeh took nearly 2 years ago.
Two top talents with very bright futures for 🇮🇪

💩 Shitpost The 2002 Saipan Incident's Real Villain, not Mick, not Roy but....
The Media?
I’ve been down the Saipan rabbit hole for days out of genuine curiosity, and the more I read, the more I think the media were the real shit-stirrers.
Keane’s beef seemed to be mainly with the FAI and the piss-poor preparation, not McCarthy personally. Then the interview gets rushed into print, McCarthy conveniently gets handed a copy, and suddenly it becomes Roy v Mick instead of Roy v the FAI.
The whole thing became incredibly polarised: you were either behind Roy or behind Mick. But has anyone ever seriously questioned the media’s role or their intentions in escalating it?
Bonus question: why was the Genesis Report never published? All I can find is 'legal reasons' but yeah...

World Cup 2026 Lessons for us in Englands failure
Right lads, just an opinion so be nice.
Having watched both semi finals it's clear to me that Englands problem is the nature of their domestic game and football culture.
The EPL is so attritional and aggressive. Get the ball to the other end as quickly as possible and try and control the chaos.
Spain and the better nations play much more patient football..comfort in possession and a willingness to massage openings are far more prominent.
At 1-0 England don't know how to take the sting out. They wouldn't be comfortable just recycling possession so they tried to 300 it.
Interestingly... Argentina didn't turf balls in box they worked openings. (Yes they made crosses but it was always cerebral).
In Fabio Cappelos first game England were boood at half time because the midfield and backs were holding on to the ball.
I think we suffer this too. We don't have a culture of players who comfortably can keep hold of possession and string passes simply to set tempo. Our culture is largely influenced by our proximity to the English game.
It's why our grass roots coaching needs to change. We need to instil a new culture. Lots of young Continental players play in England but have a foundation of something less headless.

Irish Player Update Luke McNally is back in training!
Think he returned to training a while back but 1st time I've seen a pic/video of him.
Poor lad picked up an ACL in February 2025
The 26 year old defender wasn't far off an Ireland call up when he got injured. He was playing very well at Bristol and chipping in with goals via set pieces which he's done everywhere he's played regularly.
He has 87 Championship appearances to his name along with 5 goals and 2 assists, and was shortlisted twice for Bristol's player of the month award in the months leading up to his injury.
Anyway, delighted to see him back and hopefully the best is yet to come
