I’ve had Cheeto for 3 years now, and when I first got her she was a precious little angel, but recently she has become a menace. There has been nothing too crazy, just a bit more food aggressive (which I’m to blame, as I couldn’t bring her to college so she hasn’t been handled as frequently as she used to be), but my brothers just messaged me last night saying she escaped and woke my brother up by biting him in the face! She literally ate a week and a half ago, so I’m trying to understand why she would do that.

This is the first time she’s ever escaped (brother didn’t fully clasp the lid of the tank), and it sounds like she went straight towards the bed in that room, all the way to the top, and struck at my brothers chin. Literally the only explanations I can think of are either he turned in his sleep and startled her, or she is out for human blood 😂

I feel like any time I hear about a corn escaping they just hide, normally going away from people, rather than straight to them. Has anyone else had a similar experience or is my girl just a bit evil?

I admittedly do not take Butters out enough, but I decided to yesterday and he has gotten so big! Next Monday will be one year since getting him and I love him so much!

I still have the old 40 gallon enclosure he started out in (He's in a PVC 4'x2'x2' now) and I'm getting it ready for a male western hognose snake. I love these little noodles so much, the dream is to have a snake room one day.

My corn snake all has gotten into a “everything is food” phase randomly and was wondering if anyone had tips so my fingers don’t get eaten every time I handle her without gloves.

This is my brand new baby corn, Primrose, I got her about a week ago and I'm a bit worried that im fucking everything up, so I'm just wondering if anyone has some wisdom to share for me.

Some notes of the things im worried about:

• I know her enclosure is way too big, she's a month old and about a foot long, but I didn't have a small enclosure able to house her ready to be made in any reasonable time. The enclosure was intended for an adult snake, but I sort of impulse bought her because I saw a beautiful baby on morph market. It's got UV-B, radiant heat panel, a heat lamp, as many hiding spots as i could get, and the temperatures are consistent, 90 on the basking rock, 82-85 on the warm side, 72-75 on the cold side. I put a bin in the center of it for hiding space and a place to feed her with paper towels.
• She's been in there since day 1, and I had only handled her once on day 2 because I was worried she'd get stuck behind the backdrop so I had to seal it up.
• She hasn't eaten for me yet, though that's not entirely surprising given that I was disturbing her a little the first day or two. I've heard they can last a few weeks without eating with no problems, but I'm still worried. I've been trying to feed her frozen thawed pinkies, they're the right size for her but she seems uninterested. I last tried last weekend (day 4), and I plan to try again this weekend.
• I've been looking into her enclosure from outside fairly frequently, not opening or disturbing the enclosure at all, just looking. Would that be a problem? I have her in a closet so I can just shut the door if she needs total isolation. I only ever really see her out whenever I come home from work and take a quick look into it.
• The water dish has very well filtered tap water in it, but I vaguely remember seeing they need distilled water? I sort of doubt that one but if it's true, correct me.

Overall I am fairly confident I'm doing everything right, but I still have plenty of worries, if anyone has anything to say please let me hear it!!

How long after you first fed your corn snake did it take for them to come out of hiding? for context i fed my girly saturday 07/18 and its been 4 days of her hiding/digesting. i know you’re supposed to wait 3-4 days before handling but im just getting slightly concerned.

I got a 2 year old corn snake on Friday and for the first couple days I had been able to see her in her hides. I now haven’t seen her at all for about 3 days and it’s worrying me. I don’t want to search for her since she’ll probably get more stressed out. Am I just being the typical first time corn snake owner for worrying and this is actually just normal?

Also, I’m going to try and feed her this Friday, if she doesn’t come out for food, shall I just leave the mouse in there?

(Reupload because i accidentally made this on my friends account) Though I hate to admit it, I can not properly take care of my corn snake and would like for it to find a good home. The catch is, I haven't talked to my mom about it and I'm scared for her reaction. The process of getting my corn snake, the tank, and all the accessories costed a lot of money, so I want my mom to be able to get her money back. Is there any way to make that possible?

Well, it finally happened—my 6-month-old corn snake bit my finger! (Tell my family I love them)

It happened while I was handling her and inspecting the tip of her tail because I thought I saw a strange spot (it turned out there wasn't anything there). I guess she thought I was trying to eat her from that end!

Honestly, I didn't feel a thing. In fact, I was surprised to see a drop of blood a few minutes later.

I kept handling her for a little while afterward because I didn't want her to associate biting with "being left alone." (Although I'm not sure if snakes really learn that way.)

Do you think this is something that could turn into a habit, or was it most likely just a one-off because I was forcing her into an awkward position to check her tail?

For context, she always tries to get away when I first reach into the enclosure, but once she's in my hands she calms down very quickly, and I've never had any issues handling her before.

My boy has just shed his skin, he does have a touch of scale rot so I took the skin out, gave him a bath and I've just put him back in when I noticed this

My 7-year-old female corn snake is breathing heavy. When I checked on her. She laid eggs on July 10th, had her post lay shed, and has had two meals.

She had a rat on July 20th. That might have been a little bit too big for her, but she took it down instantly and without a problem despite getting a little bit of substrate in her mouth but not much at all.

I may just be acting paranoid, but I would like to know if I should bring her to the vet.

Hey, I'm planning to get my first snake in September, planning on taking in a rescue or a rehome.

I've basically finished planning my terrarium and it would be great to hear your thoughts. First my government mandates 0.9m² (~10ft²) and 60cm (~2ft) height, for corn snakes. The rest of the law reads more like suggestions though.

I wanna get a 150x60x60 (5x2x2) pvc terrarium with sliding glass, low vents on the left and higher vents on the right. Right side Arcadia 6% UVB light, 50 watt halogen heat lamp, and 1 metre led from left side until it meets up with the other lights.

I'm not sure about the thermostat but i found the KETOTEK KT5000, its cheaper but has a timer output for lights, and a dimmable heating output, which is nice for that money, but I also heard that they're pretty new and not yet tested as well. As well as two thermometers.

Then i plan 5cm (2 inch) substrate 80/20 earth and sand and a leaf litter layer on top. Of course many wood pieces and fake plants, for activity.

And lastly 3 hides, warm, cool and humid.

The law also recommends/maybe requires a cool period of a couple of months, and i don't know how I would be able to do that. The room doesn't really get hot though, cause there's barely direct sunshine.

What are your thoughts on this setup I'm particularly interested in experiences with this particular thermostat and how you handle winter periods if at all.

There is a reptile expo coming up ear me at the end of this month. Originally I wanted to get a ball python, but being that I have never directly owned a snake of my own I am going to lean towards corn snakes for my first. I have taken care of snakes in the past, and I am an avid animal lover, actually in school for vet technology rn.
But with that being said what should I watch for at the expo? I’m trying to research the vendors coming, and the expo does live vet checks on anything that is bought before going home.
As of right now I don’t have any supplies but I planned on getting as much as I can from the expo. Is there anything I should get before hand? Should my tank be up and ready before then? If so how long.
Any and all advice are welcomed please!!

Hi! I recently got this corn snake, and it was sold to me as an Albino Snow.

However, after comparing it with other Snow corn snakes, I'm not sure if that's actually correct.

Could anyone help identify the morph based on these photos?

I'm also wondering if there's any chance it could be a Red Factor Snow rather than a normal Snow. If so, what features make you think that?

Hi, I’ve posted a few times regarding my corn snake Satsuki. However, I have updated information from the rehoming centre I got her from and wanted to clarify that the instructions they have given me are correct.
I re-homed her on the 15th of this month and immediately noticed that she looked slightly blue when putting her into the enclosure I’ve set up for her.

I immediately amped up the humidity and it’s sitting at 70-80%.

She hasn’t moved from the humid hide since the day I brought her home, apart from one day when I had to give her hide a mist and she decided to drink from the water bowl I placed down for her.

I decided to email the rehoming centre asking if her vet documents were correct as they stated that she last shed in JANUARY and no reports of one since. There are multiple records of giving her baths. Some with a ‘repti-soak’ solution and some without.
A lot of missed feeds during this time but they have since told me that she just took a while to shed.
(I have attached the vet documents)

They have told me she shed on the 16th of June and apologised that it wasn’t recorded in the vet diary.
They advised that I bathe her the same as they have done.
I feel as though this could be awful advice considering how stressed she will be with the re-home AND shed all happening at once for her.
I think me bathing her would make it even more stressful for her. Is there any advice for me on this?

Is it normal for her to be shedding again a month after her last one? Also, should I bother offering her food? Or is there no point until she has shed?

I saw him at a petstore and i was just curious! Not the best pic, but u can see his head was a gray color and it was gray down to his neck and then suddenly it turned into a normal morph (def was normal) but then the gray head was so cool!! Does anyone know?

I live in a VERY old house, we do not have central cooling nor do we put AC units in the shared spaces because the house is so old all the rooms are huge and it does nothing but bring the electric bill way up. It is currently 103° outside.

My corn snake enclosure is in the living room. I've turned his heat lamp off for two days now and his thermometer is still reading 80° across the tank. Hell, even my pacman frogs thermometer is reading 80° in my own room after turning off his heat source to try and cool it down for nighttime temps and his humidity is reading 70-75 as well even with a mesh top (which is good for him actually humidity wise).

I recently replaced my snakes Reptisoil substrate and because it was so fresh it brought his humidity up to around 75-80ish also. 😭

I do not want him to get over heated or contract scale rot!!

What can I do to bring his temp and humidity down?

His tank has a closed top because he came from someone in a colder area and I used to live in a place with central cooling so I've been using that, not a mesh top. Now, it's just too hot and apparently humid where I live now.

So I am thinking of buying a mesh top for him on Friday when I get paid to help with humidity.

But, for temps, how can I bring it down for him especially at nighttime? Will a mesh top help with the humidity and temp as well, like I need it to?? Probably a lower wattage bulb maybe?

Hi, I’m looking for some guidance about why this happened and what I can change/lookout for next time. I purchased my baby Cosmo from an expo in April. I was told he was a 4 month old Lavender male. From the beginning, he was very calm and easy to handle. I started him in a 10 gallon (was going to be very temporary until I moved animals around and got his 20 gallon set up) and waited three weeks before interacting with him. He was eating 1 pinky mouse every Sunday, and always took each meal quickly and got it down without issue.
Unfortunately, he regurgitated the pinky he was fed on June 28th. His temperatures were always good and I hadn’t handled him after that feed, so I wasn’t sure why he did this. I waited three weeks to feed again based off the research I did and him being so small. I was going to attempt to feed him again this Sunday, July 19th. I prepared half of a pinky mouse to start him small, and when I went into his enclosure, he had passed away. He was lively and active the night before.
After all of this, I’m wondering where I went wrong. I don’t handle my snakes until about 3-4 days after feeding, and this is the first regurgitation I’ve dealt with. I’ve watched him like a hawk the past three weeks, and he has been active and hasn’t shown any signs of lethargy. I have not handled him since his regurge while he was healing.
His husbandry included hot side about 85 degrees, with a black slate basking spot slightly higher, and his cool side staying about 75 degrees. His substrate is a 70 percent Reptisoil 30 percent Reptisand mix, with a little Forest Floor sprinkled in. Hides on both warm and cool side, basking slate, grapevine, cork tubes, and plants for coverage and climbing opportunities. His humidity sat at about 50 percent with his water dish on his cool side, cleaned and refilled daily.
Possible issues I’ve thought of:
He did have a small piece of Forest Floor mulch in his mouth when I found him. I usually feed him on a small dish in his enclosure so he doesn’t ingest mulch or substrate, but I’m thinking he might’ve choked on some? It didn’t appear to be stuck in his throat but he did like to burrow and dig.
He may have had some underlying illness I wasn’t aware of? I was planning a vet visit if this next feeding didn’t go well, however he passed before I could attempt to feed again.
Did I wait too long to feed?
Looking back, compared to other posts I’ve seen he seems a little small for an almost 7 month old. I don’t have an accurate weight for him close to regurge, but he was maybe about 14 grams when I brought him home and i don’t think he grew too much, despite always taking meals well.
What can I change next time? I’m doing an intense cleaning of everything in his enclosure in case he was sick, and dumping all substrate. Next time I will avoid the cypress mulch.
He was a very sweet boy and I feel awful this happened to him.

i'm making a temporary enclosure for my juvenile corn using a 20 gal plastic box, but because i'm afraid of the box catching on fire, i will not be using overhead heating. i tried to use a 10w heating mat and the heat barely reached the top of the 2 inch substrate. the thermostat shows the mat itself at ~85f; does anyone know how much wattage it would take for the heat to actually go through the plastic box and substrate? also the mat isn't directly touching the bottom of the box, theres a gap in the middle where the probe sits.

i've had this snake for half a year now, i'm not really sure but i reckon it's still quite young. during these six months, i've handled it <5 times solely bc i don't want to force anything. it's still really scared of me and hides when i walk by, is there anything i can do to gain its trust?
