It is really crazy how one chemical in the brain can change our entire world view. I finally started taking OCD medicine, and that last panel, with the realization of how a chemical change is affecting our own perception, really resonated with me.

I'm not on estrogen & the extinction of the trilobites makes me genuinely sad. That're a unique arthropod group, completely distinct from chelicerates, myriapods, & crustaceans (no, I didn't forget insects, they're technically a type of crustacean), meaning that's an entire branch of the Tree of Life just gone, one with 1/4 of a billion year long history.
At leas we still have horseshoe crabs

I'm a big hairy dude not on any hormones, and even I'll get misty eyed over the weirdest things. Usually music; something like just a key change or a specific melodic flourish will happen and suddenly I'm emotional. It's all good. I think we could all afford to get more in touch with our emotions, and to just feel more in general.

You're right, it's a blessing to have access to it.
There does seem to be an inexplicable link between estrogen and crying or testosterone and not crying, but I don't know what exactly drives it because I know plenty of dudes that can cry easily. Yet my waterworks dried almost completely up after I transitioned to male, and I'd like to have some of it back. I get all the other elements - tight chest, lump in the throat, sometimes the tears even come to my eyes - but ffs they just won't flow and I don't get the release. It's actually a terrible feeling, so I wish people didn't take it for granted as some deplorable weakness.

I can't imagine the sobfest that would occur if you watched an intentionally sad movie if this is getting you on the verge of tears.
But NGL the history of the Trilobite is surprisingly motivating.
