I hate to be that guy, but I seriously doubt anyone who has lived in a cottage has had their remains placed in an actual, honest-to-God tomb. The point of the meme stills holds, my pedantism notwithstanding.

You point out the class differences, but I think this set of circumstances is possible for religious folks. The nuns who lived in their cottage at the edge of town, provided treatment for illnesses, cared for the feral cats, might be beloved enough to be local saints and end up honored by the town with a nicer burial. And this does happen. A pair of women who taught at my high school were former nuns who lived together in the neighborhood and were beloved by their students.

I didn't even think of monastics or "folk Catholic sacred sites culture". You might actually be on to something. I guess even St. Guinefort (yes, the dog) was entombed, despite his remains being later exhumed and destroyed.

Well, I guess I'm on my way to go find a magical Lesbian nun tomb!

This is beyond fascinating.

It really is. I just wanted to make a silly joke but you two turned into a really interesting conversation. You two are awesome.

The internet is alright sometime, I guess. 🙂

I don't understand why pedantry upsets some people.

If someone says 2+2=5 and someone points out that it's wrong, and 2+2=4, only a madman would call that pedantry. So why is it pedantic to point out other obviously incorrect statements?

And to cover my bases, I leave the following bit of text covered. Choosing to view it is acceptance of the information it contains.

I'm not getting into quantum math or any kind of philosophical discussions about 2+2=4. By revealing this text, you concede that 2+2=4.

Well, in this case, I suppose "tomb" really is vague enough to suitably describe any site where a once-person is interred, even if I personally associate tombs with buildings designed to house VIP corpses.

Like I said, though, nobody is going to argue that Guinefort's well was not a tomb. Furthermore, nobody is going to argue that the cave they laid Jesus's body in was not a tomb. And, at the end of the day, what is the difference between a cave and a hole in the ground?

u/lvl_zxro 56m ago

I don't understand why pedantry upsets some people.

Because much of the time it doesn’t change the substance of what the person is trying to say. It’s just being an asshole for the sake of being an asshole.

u/scoyne15 52m ago

Your visceral reaction is exactly what I don't understand. If I say something that is factually incorrect, I want to be informed, so that I don't continue to repeat false information. I never consider someone correcting me to be an asshole. They are helping me learn.

u/lvl_zxro 30m ago edited 25m ago

I wouldn’t say I’m having a visceral reaction, I’m just explaining why people don’t like it. Of course it can sometimes be helpful. Like everything it really depends on the context, but when people don’t like it it’s usually because the person being pedantic is really just being a dick.

u/scoyne15 1m ago

Immediately calling people assholes for offering corrections to incorrect information is a visceral reaction as it is not the result of ordered thinking.

3

u/TheDailyMews 3h ago

You're correct, but so is the meme. "Tomb" has more than one definition.

tomb noun

1 a: an excavation in which a corpse is buried : grave

b: a place of interment

2 : a house, chamber, or vault for the dead

3 : a building or structure resembling a tomb (as in appearance)

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tomb

u/No_Payment9959 52m ago

You are correct. We have referred to caves, wells, and other literal holes in the ground as "tombs" far too often in the history of the English language for me to reasonably suppose that a simple grave is not also a tomb.

Also, following your pedantics, lots of historians don't actually try to find "a heterosexual explanation for this".

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/kqkmk3/historians_say_they_were_just_friends_but_they/

It's kinda like that whole "there's just 2 sexes, male and female, it's basic biology" shit when advanced biology shows that things are much more interesting and complicated. Of course you didn't learn about the sexuality of historic figures in High School history class, or the variations of identities and ways of expression through different cultures and different time periods.

u/No_Payment9959 59m ago

While people do try to find a "heterosexual explanation" for historic same-sex partnerships, you are quite correct that those people are not generally bona fide historians.

Her pic looks like the old meme of the baby holding up their fist.

Hazzah for Amelia and Good for Jodi. We should all try and help each other accept ourselves like Jodi does

u/Cool_Set4681 7h ago

I mean after you started an entire war over it... I think you are our Jodi 🙂

Ah yes the chaotic good Barbarian telling people not to be (insert term for a duscrimitory person here)

I shall enjoy seeing what happens to those who don't listen

Ah, so that's the source of your PFP. I was not familiar. (Still confused but also amused)

Look up Chaotic Good Barbarian by Dungeon Soup on YouTube

2

u/Cool_Set4681 1h ago edited 1h ago

Is a show you can watch on Youtube. It is called "CHAOTIC GOOD BARBARIAN" made by the channel Dungeon Soup. This summary describes the character the best:

"He is an unstoppable force of nature that defeats monsters by using brutal, relentless sadism and creative intelligence, often disturbing naturally evil creatures with his over-the-top methods"

It is really funny :)

What a ride but Amelia finally learned to accept herself

61

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC 7h ago

I really do hope this isn't a reverse uno card play on Amelia's end.

45

u/Jonathan_the_Nerd 6h ago

I hadn't even thought about that.

Although she says she's looking for a wife and she attends church every Sunday. That would scare away a lot of potential "converts" if she were just trying to find lesbians to turn straight. I think she's sincere.

27

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC 6h ago

I hope she's sincere. We didn't see a "moment of clarity" where she accepted her sexuality. And that's a good point about her finding a wife in her bio. I see that as the Christian in her finding a life long partner over a fling.

u/LowKiss 8h ago

Hypereligious Christian lesbian camp? What is the denomination?

78

u/urmamasllama 7h ago

Could be Methodist Presbyterian Unitarian or a few others

20

u/Personal_Quote_3803 4h ago

Presbyterian Church USA specifically. (Presbyterian Church in America is more conservative)

4

u/brady376 4h ago

I was going to say my friend is a lesbian and getting her Presbyterian family on board was rough so I was surprised to see that listed

58

u/Barium_Salts 6h ago

United Methodist, ECLA Lutheran, United Christian Church (with a chalice for a symbol), Episcopalian, and Untarian are all denominations that explicitly affirm and support queer people and their right to live openly. I've also seen queer-affirming First Baptist churches, but I'm not sure if that's the entire denomination.

3

u/Vulpes_Corsac 4h ago

Did UMC actually change doctrine?  I know a lot of individual churches and people will be quite affirming, but last I had checked, gay marriage still wasn't performed in the church, and people in active same-sex relationships still weren't allowed in the clergy.

Did the schism with the so-called global methodist church (much less accepting folks) change the power balance and let that happen or something?

12

u/Barium_Salts 4h ago

Yes, they officially changed doctrine on Jan 1, 2025. In my opinion, the split with Global Methodists was actually less of a cause than an effect of the UMC moving in a more affirming direction. https://www.umc.org/en/content/ask-the-umc-what-is-the-churchs-position-on-homosexuality

The UMC church now ordains LGBT+ people with no restrictions other than those that apply to everyone, and performs same-sex marriage ceremonies.

2

u/Vulpes_Corsac 1h ago edited 1h ago

Huh, neat.  Happy to hear that.  Thanks for the info.

3

u/amyemi 2h ago

The Baptists are probably members of the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists. American Baptist churches (not sure about other groups) are autonomous, so the national organization doesn't set a policy for the local churches' beliefs on queer people. Churches that explicitly welcome queer members usually join AWAB as well, but not always.

3

u/amyemi 2h ago

(Source: I was a Baptist preacher's baby bi kid at the time gay marriage was legalized, so I sat through a lot of conferences about the importance of local autonomy in Baptist history and how that extends to accepting gay people, or, in the case of many churches in my area, not. But at least no one could expel the churches that held gay weddings!)

u/t92k 5h ago

I went to a Biblical studies college in the 80’s and a dozen of us who were in the Youth Ministries and camp management program have ended up coming out. It was one of the few places we could be more like ourselves — and we came from all kinds of denominations that weren’t open to the idea that their kids could be gay or Lesbians. In the late 90’s and early 2000’s we would usually move to one of a couple of denominations, but these days there is a lot more acceptance in mainline churches so there’s less concentration in one or two — as long as you don’t need to be at a charismatic evangelical church.

7

u/CharlesOberonn 7h ago

A fairly heterodox one, ironically.

64

u/Alarmed_World_4854 7h ago

I feel like a twist is coming where she is still trying to "fix" lesbians herself and this is a trick

5

u/Meatslinger 3h ago

I figured "for marriage" means that she's trying to find them to help them pair up with men as part of her little crusade, i.e. she fashions herself as Cupid, going where the lesbians congregate in order to "save" them.

But I also have a feeling her whole arc will (hopefully) end with her coming to terms with herself and being happy.

Always two there are, original and share.

u/Mamuschkaa 5h ago

3

u/Meatslinger 3h ago

I know tracking metadata when I see it. For sure that's gotta be an internal Reddit thing so it can track which accounts share with others, i.e. when one of those strings is generated I'll bet it makes a little object in the back-end that says "shared by: (user)" and then tracks all the clicks done through it afterwards so it can make a network of interacting accounts (which is then sent to marketers).

2

u/darkvaris 7h ago

Thank you! I must have missed it
